Ginkgo Space has a tremendous impact on this world. The land in the space can grow food, and most importantly, there is a spring that can cleanse the Zombie Virus from the soil—although it only works for a year before the land becomes contaminated again, during that year it allows for two or three crops. With this spring, the issues of food and water can be resolved. Currently, soil-less cultivation has just begun; who knows when it will be widely implemented!
It must be accepted! Releasing Ginkgo Space is a great merit, and integrating Ginkgo Space into this world will benefit countless people! Bai Tang, although equipped with a game system, is still technically a Cultivator. She understands the importance of merit to a Cultivator. With merit as protection, when transcending tribulations to become an immortal, the path will be more lenient!
Bai Tang is overjoyed. She originally came to help her disciple eliminate hidden dangers but unexpectedly gained such a significant benefit—though the mission remains incomplete and the goal is far off—her mood improves as she looks at the woman on the bed. Divine Sense circulates in the jade pendant space, retrieving two storage bags of three hundred cubic units each (there are only four storage bags in total). She divides the resources collected by Qi Zhen and half of the Elixir Treasure left by the original owner into the two bags.
"These things are returned to you! I won't strip away your cultivation; these Elixir and Treasure are enough for you to cultivate. How far you go depends entirely on yourself!" Bai Tang places the two bags beside Qi Zhen's right hand, activates her skill, and takes Karen Adrian back to her purchased house—a three-bedroom, two-living room unit totaling one hundred forty square meters. Before the apocalypse, buying such a place in the city would have been exorbitantly expensive; now it was acquired for just two hundred pounds of food. Yi Qian did not return to the army and stayed here at night. After waking up in the middle of the night and finding that her Master and her follower were missing, the young man realized that his Master's departure must be related to Bai's ambush incident. He decided not to sleep and waited on the sofa for his Master to return. When two Daoist figures suddenly appeared in the living room, he immediately rushed over.
"Master, are you okay?" Concern was evident.
Bai Tang patted the young man's head: "Your Master is powerful; how could anything happen? Here, these are spoils of war. You can decide whether to use them yourself or share them with your colleagues—it's up to you! Just remember, there are no shortcuts in Cultivation. Although Elixir can boost your cultivation, it contains dan poison, so I don't recommend using it. Your cultivation should be built through your own hard work!"
Bai Tang stuffed all the Elixir and Treasure into the young man's arms. Seeing him struggle to hold so much, she slowly took out a storage bag: "Here, put everything into this bag!"
The young man's eyes lit up: "Master, is this a storage bag?"
Bai Tang smiled: "That's right! This storage bag has five hundred cubic units of space; you can put anything in it! Just imprint your Divine Sense on it, and from now on, no one but you can open this bag."
She then tossed the last bag to Karen Adrian: "This is for you. Since you don't have Divine Sense, just use your mental power to mark it!"
Karen Adrian accepted the storage bag and thanked her lightly. His interest in the storage bag was not as great as that of Yi Qian, as there were also spatial items in the Future World, just not as convenient as storage bags due to smaller spaces.
"Don't worry about anyone ambushing us anymore. Your Master has already taught her a profound lesson; she won't dare trouble us again!"
She was indeed scared! The next morning, Qi Zhen woke up and discovered the storage bag beside her. Frightened, she wanted to hide in her space, but there was no response from it. Qi Zhen was completely terrified; her space was gone, someone had taken it! How powerful must this person be to take away a recognized space? Qi Zhen regretted it deeply! She had offended such a formidable figure; it was almost like seeking death! Fortunately, the person she offended didn't seem bad; they only took her space as punishment and left her some supplies. If it had been someone with a narrow mind, she might have lost her life. Qi Zhen dared not retrieve her space and even less to stay at Beijing Base. She quickly stored the two bags into her chest and hurriedly left Beijing Base.
From then on, Qi Zhen shrank back into her own base, no longer daring to step into the territory of Beijing Base or engage in any contact or trade with them. Naturally, there were no energy guns or mechas available from their base. The others in the base were both confused and dissatisfied. Their base had suffered several zombie sieges, and without mechas, they only had a few energy guns bought from the black market, leading to heavy casualties and personnel losses. Many survivors had flocked to their base because it could provide ample food and a relatively safe environment. Now, food was becoming scarcer—without space to produce food, Qi Zhen restricted its distribution since every little bit in the storage bag counted. The safety compared to other bases offered no advantage; what use was it to fend off low-level mutated plants and animals? Other larger bases had mechas and energy guns that made killing zombies as easy as cutting wheat. Moreover, those bases had already reclaimed cities, allowing everyone to return home to live in apartments. Why should they continue living in such shabby houses? Why should so many people crowd into one room? Discontent spread among the people; many hunters formed teams to leave the base for larger ones like Beijing Base. Those who remained were mostly incapable individuals who dared not kill zombies. The defensive strength of the base weakened accordingly and ultimately collapsed during a zombie siege. Fortunately, most people had already left; those who remained were protected by the original high-ranking members of the base as they fled to other large bases, resulting in relatively few deaths. Qi Zhen did not follow them; she escaped alone into the deep mountains, waiting until all the zombies were eradicated before humanity ushered in a new era. Perhaps she died there; perhaps she devoted herself to cultivation and eventually ascended.
After breakfast, Bai Tang sent her disciple back to the troops and took Karen back to the world of Dream of the Red Chamber. The white banners hanging outside startled Bai Tang, who quickly ran out to find Bai Dad and Bai Ma. After confirming that her family was safe, Bai Tang pouted: "Mom and Dad, our home is fine; why hang white banners? You scared me!"
Bai Ma brought out two bowls of sweet soup to comfort her daughter: "It's not that we want to hang them; it's just that everyone else has done so. If we don't hang them, we would stand out too much!"
"What happened? Did the Emperor die?" Bai Tang speculated while drinking her sweet soup. If everyone was hanging white banners, it must be due to an important royal figure's death.
"You guessed it right! Not just the Emperor but also the Empress Dowager—Xue Baochai—both have died!" Wu Xuemei did not go to the shop but stayed home busy with Bai Ma.
The wild fruits on the nearby mountains had ripened, including some wild grapes that were too sour for anyone to eat—even birds wouldn’t peck at them. After discovering this, Wu Xuemei picked all the grapes and brought them back; Bai Ma became interested and wanted to make wine with Wu Xuemei.
After washing the ripe grapes clean with water and removing stems along with any green or spoiled ones, they placed them into a clean container that had been dried out. They crushed or mashed them by hand, added white sugar, sealed them for fermentation, and after some time would obtain raw grape wine. While it sounds simple, there are many precautions: ancient grapes have no pesticides, which is good since there's no worry about pesticide residues; washed grapes should be placed in a basket to dry thoroughly or hung up to dry; wine jars and stirring sticks must also be cleaned properly; otherwise, impurities could affect fermentation and flavor...
"All dead?" Bai Tang exclaimed in surprise. The last time she visited the palace overnight with Baozi Aiwanxi, the Emperor seemed perfectly healthy—how could he have died just months later?
"Yes, it’s said that the Emperor fell off his horse and died while the Empress Dowager passed away from grief over her only son’s death," Wu Xuemei whispered. "I suspect there’s definitely a conspiracy involved; how could someone so well-protected fall off a horse?"
Her tone couldn't hide her excitement.
"Have you watched too many dramas?" Bai Tang rolled her eyes. Both Wu Xuemei and Bai Ma loved watching historical palace dramas. "Is there any turmoil in the court?"
"Seems like there isn't!" Wu Xuemei shook her head.
"That's serious. Since no one died in the court and there was no coup, the Yongming Emperor's death must have been an accident!" Bai Tang sighed. Xue Baochai was gone, and that clever and beautiful girl she remembered had just disappeared. However, her life had been quite blessed, much better than the ending in the original story.
"But I still feel like there's a conspiracy!" Wu Xuemei murmured.
All the grapes had been crushed and put into the jar. Bai Ma and Wu Xuemei sealed the jar and instructed the servants to move it to the cellar to wait for fermentation. The white frost on the grape skins contained yeast, so homemade wine could ferment without adding extra yeast. Once the grape juice was placed in the container, it could start fermenting. After about seven days, the grape skins would float to the top, changing color from dark to light, while the seeds and most of the pulp would settle at the bottom of the vase. At this point, the residue should be separated from the liquid, followed by secondary fermentation. The secondary fermentation would take two weeks to a month, after which it would be stored in oak barrels for a few months before being ready to drink, tasting delicious and pure, much better than modern blended wines!
Bai Tang was worried about her apprentice and went out to find Ai Wanxi. Ai Wanxi felt a bit sad upon hearing the news of the emperor's death; however, since he was just his nephew and they had never spent time together, there were no real feelings involved. The child quickly got over it and was taken out to play by Xing Xiaokang. After coming to ancient times, Xing Xiaokang adapted best, climbing trees, catching fish, and digging for worms; these two kids were having a blast. Although there were computers and amusement facilities in modern times, nothing compared to such a wide space for them to run around freely.
