After the banquet of the Sean Family, Bai Tang decided to return to the modern world. However, because she needed to help her grandson Senwen, she wouldn't stay in the modern world for too long this time; at most, she would return in a month. Senwen also needed to use these two years to secretly prepare for a heavy blow against the Wei family.
Returning home was still midnight. Through the glass window, she could see the hazy moonlight and the countless lights on the ground, twinkling like stars, creating a beautiful scene. However, Bai Tang felt that the view before her was not as good as the unpolluted world of Dream of the Red Chamber. Looking up, she saw an expansive and pure night sky filled with stars; it even paled in comparison to the sights of the future world, where lights and stars formed an incredibly dreamy realm.
“Tang Tang, you're back?” Bai Ma got up to use the bathroom and, hearing movement in her daughter's room, immediately came over. “Are you hungry? There's still braised beef in the fridge. I can make you a bowl of beef noodles.”
“No thanks, Mom. Eating at night will keep me awake.” Bai Tang hurriedly declined her mother's kindness. Although Bai Ma's current physical condition was comparable to that of a thirty-year-old, getting enough sleep at night was still beneficial for her health.
“That's true; it's hard to digest. Then I'll heat you up a cup of milk. It will help you sleep better,” Bai Ma said without waiting for her daughter to stop her. She took a box of milk from the fridge and went into the kitchen. In no time, she brought out a cup of warm milk and placed it in front of Bai Tang.
“Mom?” Bai Tang looked up in confusion. Instead of returning to her room to continue sleeping, Bai Ma sat down across from Bai Tang with a somewhat conflicted expression.
“Tang Tang, our life is pretty good now. You don't need to go to other worlds anymore!” Bai Ma said. The current life was so good that it was unimaginable compared to her past; Bai Ma felt very satisfied as long as there was enough money to live on and their family could live steadily without having to run off to other worlds for money. Who knew what unknown dangers those worlds held? Every time her daughter went to another world, she worried and feared that her daughter might encounter danger and not return.
Bai Ma's feelings were smoothly conveyed to Bai Tang, warming her heart and causing a twinge of guilt to rise within her. A child travels thousands of miles while their mother worries; enjoying herself outside while making her parents so anxious felt very unfilial.
“Mom, I'm sorry for worrying you and Dad. I promise you that after I go to the future world one more time, I will stay at home with you and Dad and won't travel anymore.”
“You're going again? Can't you skip it?” Bai Ma's concern for the future world outweighed that for Dream of the Red Chamber. The Big Ass Police Fairy from Dream of the Red Chamber had already been dealt with by her daughter; although the earthly emperor had ulterior motives, his combat power couldn't compare to her daughter's at all. It was a completely stable and peaceful world; the only thing that worried her was traveling back and forth through time tunnels—what if there were temporal disturbances? Compared to Dream of the Red Chamber, the future world was much more dangerous; she had heard that there were many powerful figures there, along with advanced weapons and sci-fi mechs. Although her daughter was strong, she was still just one person; if surrounded by a group of mechs, it could be very dangerous.
“I promised a friend I would help him; I can't go back on my word.”
Bai Ma pressed further: “Help with what? Is it dangerous?”
“Don't worry; it's not dangerous.” Bai Tang reassured her mother before changing the subject. “Mom, let me tell you about my friend! He's also a traveler! He crossed over from the twenty-first century but through soul transfer.”
Sure enough, Bai Ma became interested in travelers and asked about Senwen's story. Bai Tang selectively shared some details about Senwen's past, portraying him as a pitiful figure who lacked parental love in his struggles against others—of course, she made sure not to mention anything too deadly.
“This person is really pitiful!” Bai Ma expressed great sympathy for Senwen's plight and forgot about her earlier worries. “Tang Tang, you must help him; after all, he's from your hometown.”
"Yes, Ada." Bai Tang saluted and stood up with an empty cup in hand. "Mom, it's late, you should hurry and go to bed!"
"Alright, alright!" Bai Ma also stood up and walked towards the bedroom. Just as she reached the bedroom door, Bai Ma paused and turned back hesitantly to ask, "Tang Tang, since you're not going to other worlds anymore, doesn't that mean you won't have any supplies for your Online Store?"
"If I don't have any, then I won't open it. Anyway, we have enough money at home to support you and Dad in retirement," Bai Tang's voice came from the kitchen.
Bai Ma shook her head with a smile and entered the room, where she saw Bai Dad staring at her wide-eyed.
"Goodness, you scared me! How did you wake up?" Bai Ma patted her chest.
"You two were talking so loudly that I woke up," Bai Dad replied.
"Don't be ridiculous! We weren't loud at all. You just miss your daughter; the moment you heard her voice, you woke up!" After decades of marriage, Bai Ma knew her husband inside out.
"Don't hold her back either. Young people like adventure; we can't keep dragging her down," Bai Dad said. Although he was worried about their daughter, as a man, he had an adventurous spirit and supported her decision to go to other worlds.
"Aren't I worried about her safety? The weapons in the Future World are so powerful; what if Tang Tang gets hurt?" Bai Ma walked over to her side of the bed—Bai Ma and Bai Dad slept in separate beds; Bai Ma's bed was 1.2 meters wide while Bai Dad's was 1.5 meters wide. Baozi Aiwanxi shared a bed with Bai Dad—she lay down and continued, "Aren't you worried too? Now that we have money and live well, why let our daughter take risks? All I hope for now is that she can settle down, find an excellent man who loves her, and give us a grandson."
Bai Dad had no retort for a moment because he shared the same concern for their daughter's safety as Bai Ma did.
"Let's sleep," Bai Dad said as he closed his eyes.
"Then I'll sleep first; you can sleep after me so your snoring doesn't keep me awake," Bai Ma replied.
The only answer she received was the sound of Bai Dad snoring.
"You old fool!" Bai Ma muttered as she closed her eyes and went to sleep.
Bai Tang took a break and, with a mysterious air, led Bai Dad and Bai Ma deep into Dongshan. At the peak of a mountain, Bai Tang waved her hand, and a silver-gray spaceship appeared before Bai Dad and Bai Ma.
"Tang Tang, is this... a spaceship?" Bai Dad and Bai Ma were so shocked that they could hardly react. Although they often heard their daughter talk about things in the Future World and had even seen pictures of future weapons and aircraft, facing a spaceship in reality was something they found hard to accept.
"Yes! Didn't I promise you both to experience a spaceship? Since we have time today, let's go on a space journey!" Bai Tang said cheerfully. This time she only brought her parents along; she didn't take Ai Wanxi with her because she was afraid he might leak secrets, so she left him at home under Wu Xuemei's care.
"Can it really fly into space?" Bai Dad and Bai Ma were incredibly excited.
"Of course!" Bai Tang pressed a button on the remote control in her hand, and the spaceship's door slowly opened. "Passengers, please board!"
With the same excitement as when they entered Grand View Garden, Bai Dad and Bai Ma stepped into the spaceship. Every piece of equipment and arrangement inside amazed them like country bumpkins. Bai Tang happily explained everything to them, feeling much more relaxed.
"Dad, Mom, sit tight; we're about to take off," Bai Tang reminded them with a smile. The futuristic technology made the seats in the spaceship very well-designed; they were comfortable enough that passengers could sit securely without seatbelts during ascent and descent.
As the spaceship ascended, it appeared slow but was actually quite fast. The mountains and greenery were left behind, followed by clouds, until the view transformed into a massive blue planet.
"From space, our Earth is the most beautiful," Bai Dad exclaimed proudly!
"Tang Tang, let's orbit around the Earth!" Bai Ma suggested.
"Okay!" Bai Tang nodded and activated the holographic screen, which displayed majestic mountains and sprawling city walls.
"The Great Wall!" Bai Dad and Bai Ma exclaimed together; wasn't that familiar sight the Great Wall that made Huaxia people proud?
"The spaceship's screen can synchronize with the scenery below as we travel," Bai Tang explained to her parents. "Where else would you like to see? I can show you."
Bai Tang activated the protective shield on the spaceship, and modern technology's radar could not detect the spaceship's movements.
"Huangshan, right? I want to see the Welcoming Pine!" Bai Ma said.
Bai Tang adjusted the spaceship's flight angle, and in the next moment, a tall pine tree appeared on the screen. One side of its branches extended out like a person reaching out their arms to welcome distant guests, dignified and graceful; it was indeed the iconic landscape of Huangshan, the Welcoming Pine!
"Cape of the Sea," Bai Dad said.
The screen changed, revealing the blue sea that lifted one's spirits. The water was crystal clear, with vast waves, dotted with sailboats, swaying coconut palms, and strange rocks standing in harmony with the water; on the sandy beach of the bay stood numerous stones, including "Edge Stone," "Cape Stone," "Sun and Moon Stone," and "South Pillar," all rising majestically, showcasing the grandeur of "Cape of the Sea."
The spaceship flew slowly, and the scenes on the screen kept changing: altars, the Forbidden City, Mount Hua, Mount Tai, Qingcheng Mountain, Port City Great Buddha, Sun Moon Lake... Bai Dad and Bai Ma had their fill of sights.
The spaceship flew to the dark side of Earth, where it was still night. In the darkness, on a limestone hill stood a majestic rectangular building supported by forty-six marble columns each thirty-four feet high. A relief band stretching one hundred sixty meters was intricately carved with vivid expressions and perfect movements, showcasing the wisdom of ancient civilization. If it were daytime, under the blue sunlight, this solemn building would appear incredibly sacred.
"Where is this place?" Bai Ma asked.
"The Parthenon, a temple in the Acropolis of Athens," Bai Tang replied. "The Parthenon is a major representative of Greek architecture and sculpture during its peak and is known as a 'national treasure of Greece.' It is also a brilliant gem in humanity's artistic treasury. It was once converted into a Christianity church. After the Turks occupied Athens, they turned the temple into a mosque. During battles between Venetians and Turks, cannon fire hit an ammunition depot inside the temple, destroying its central part. In the early 19th century, British noble Lord Elgin took most of the remaining sculptures away, causing significant loss. Many artifacts originally belonging to the temple are now scattered in places like the British Museum, Louvre, and Copenhagen. In the latter half of the 19th century, some repairs were made to the temple, but it could not be restored to its original appearance; only a shell of stone columns remains."
