Xiao Zhang walked in. "Xiaoming, give me a copy of the animal experiment specimens. The boss said we need to speed up the progress." His voice interrupted my thoughts, and his eyes reflected a sense of helplessness.
"Xiao Zhang, why do you think the boss wants to study this?" I asked cautiously.
"This is the directive from headquarters; we can only follow orders," Xiao Zhang replied, his tone revealing a hint of powerlessness.
"Does headquarters have any updates on this data? Do you know where they are?" I pressed further.
"Of course they do; the data is updated in real-time. I don't know the location of headquarters, but I've heard it's in a very distant place called Time Station. Why do you ask?" Xiao Zhang's response piqued my interest.
I handed the data to Xiao Zhang. After he left, I fell into deep thought. Time Station? Could it be related to the Time Machine Delivery Station on the top floor? I immediately got up and rushed to the top floor.
"You've come!" an old man said with a smile as he looked at me.
The old man's gaze was deep and distant, as if he could perceive the secrets of time and space. I was filled with confusion; how could this stranger seem to have anticipated my arrival?
The old man was a senior courier at Time Station, having spent his life observing and studying the flow of time and space. He possessed a rare ability—sensing impending events through subtle temporal fluctuations. The moment he saw me step into the delivery station, he sensed my significance from the ripples of time.
He understood that I was not just an ordinary recipient. I carried the key to changing the future; my choices and actions would have profound effects on the entire timeline. He saw the determination in my eyes and my thirst for the unknown, which were precisely the qualities he sought—courage to explore and fearlessness in facing risks.
"Did you know I was coming?" I asked directly.
The old man merely smiled without answering, his eyes seemingly hiding deeper secrets. He knew that I had realized my role in this temporal struggle and that I would take action to prevent the threats posed by animal experiments.
"Old man, do you know where Time Station is?" I pressed urgently.
Finally, he spoke, "Time Station is a bridge connecting the past and future, as well as a relay station linking Earth with other timelines. As for all this, you must discover the truth for yourself."
The old man led me into a special room that was very spacious, with an entire wall covered in computer screens displaying not data but rather the delivery status across various timelines. I was clearly astonished; these were images I had never encountered before and could not comprehend.
"These are scenes of our temporal deliveries to various timelines," he said heavily, his eyes revealing deep concern. "We have been granted the ability to traverse time by its controllers, but behind this ability lies a greater threat."
I stared intently at him, waiting for him to continue.
"Time Station is not just a bridge connecting past and future; it is also the frontline between our world and unknown dark forces." The old man paused before continuing, "These forces are insatiably greedy; they wish to manipulate history through Time Station to alter reality and satisfy their endless desires."
A tightness gripped my heart as I realized the seriousness of the situation.
"Our existence is meant to stop them," he said firmly. "The secrets of Time Station are far more complex than you imagine. Every courier bears the responsibility of protecting temporal continuity."
He pointed at the flickering lights on the display screen and detailed how Time Station operated within the universe and how we could harness its power to combat those dark forces.
"Our Earth is the most suitable place for living; we can breathe fresh air every day and enjoy delicious food. However, people in those other timelines cannot experience what we do. Aside from having money, they find it nearly impossible to enjoy a good meal. Thus, they send requests to Time Station, offering high prices for meat products delivered by us couriers. Gradually, they began complaining about insufficient food supply; couriers couldn't carry much at once. Then some suggested that if animals could grow several times larger, they would pay several times more. We clever humans received this signal and started researching ways to make animals grow rapidly. Small animals taken over would be treated with reagents and within days could produce several times more food for them."
"By the way, your company's headquarters is also located within Time Station," the old man seemed to remember suddenly.
I was shocked to hear this. So the boss was using this to make a fortune? But little did they know, there were too many greedy people. The test subjects escaped and even began to turn against humans, breeding rapidly and soon replacing humanity.
