I stood tall alongside Lu Yuanbai, facing the Phantom Conductor with unwavering faith. "No matter what, we will never give up," I said firmly.
"We will always be by each other's side," Lu Yuanbai said, looking at me. The trust between us needed no words to be understood.
"You ignorant humans dare to challenge my authority?" the Phantom Conductor mocked. His voice was cold and filled with arrogance and confidence.
Lu Yuanbai did not respond; he was fully focused on scanning the surroundings for any devices or resources we could use. I kept my eyes fixed on the Phantom Conductor, ready to strike a decisive blow.
"Xiao Yangxia, pay attention over there," Lu Yuanbai suddenly pointed to a corner of the control panel.
"That is the emergency brake button. If we can activate it, perhaps..." His words hinted at a glimmer of hope.
I followed Lu Yuanbai's gaze and saw a shining button that glimmered like a ray of dawn in the darkness.
"What should we do next?" I knew Lu Yuanbai had already planned our next move.
"I will do my best to draw his attention, and you will be responsible for pressing that button," Lu Yuanbai said decisively.
Our eyes met, filled with determination and trust. Lu Yuanbai fearlessly charged at the Phantom Conductor, engaging him in fierce combat and buying me precious time.
Seizing the opportunity, I quietly approached the control panel; our actions were swift and resolute, not daring to hesitate for a moment.
Clearly, the Phantom Conductor was unprepared for our strategy and could only barely fend off Lu Yuanbai's assault, unable to stop me from executing my task.
When I finally pressed the emergency brake button, a deafening alarm echoed throughout the control center, and lights flashed in brilliant red. This sharp sound spread through the entire train as if it were issuing a final warning to the world.
The Phantom Conductor began to retreat amidst the sudden blaring alarm, his figure gradually becoming blurred.
"It’s impossible! This cannot be happening!" His furious roar echoed in the control center for a long time.
However, no matter how hard he struggled, he ultimately faded away into the dazzling blue light as if he had never existed at all.
Lu Yuanbai and I exchanged a knowing glance, both deeply feeling the relief and joy that followed our victory. The distant voice of the Phantom Conductor echoed once more in the control center.
In an instant, my companion Lu Yuanbai and I felt a tightness in our hearts and immediately turned to look in the direction of the sound.
The conductor reappeared before us, but this time, his figure was clearer.
His eyes no longer showed hostility; instead, they were filled with deep sorrow.
"Your courage has exceeded my expectations," he said, his tone full of affirmation.
"And you arrived earlier than I anticipated."
Lu Yuanbai and I exchanged glances, knowing that the moment to reveal the secret had come.
"What is going on?" I asked on behalf of both of us.
"Who exactly are you?"
The ghostly conductor gazed deeply at us before slowly walking towards the control panel.
He gently touched each button on the panel, as if reminiscing about days gone by.
