The ghostly figures floated around us, their hollow eye sockets flickering with a dim light. Their faces were twisted and grotesque, as if mocking our helplessness. Lu Yuanbai and I kept our mouths tightly shut, our hearts nearly leaping out of our chests.
Suddenly, one of the figures lunged violently towards us. We immediately jumped aside to avoid it. We carefully navigated around the ghosts, moving toward a corner that seemed relatively safe. We hid there, our hearts pounding like drums, breathing heavily.
In the midst of our panic, my foot accidentally brushed against something. Looking down, I saw it was a piece of stiff paper. I picked it up and examined it closely, discovering it was a crumpled sketch depicting the layout of the train's control center.
I handed the sketch to Lu Yuanbai, who studied it intently for a moment before whispering, "This should be the layout of the control center." He looked up at me, hope shining in his eyes. "We have a way out!"
We began to analyze the sketch, trying to find a path to the control center. Meanwhile, Lu Yuanbai stood guard, alert for any more ghostly figures that might attack us.
"Well, the way to the main control room should be at the other end of this train," Lu Yuanbai said quietly. "We'll have to pass through several carriages to reach our destination."
I nodded gently in response, saying, "But we need to stay as quiet as possible so those ghosts don't notice us."
Lu Yuanbai glanced at me with a hint of concern in his eyes. He held my hand tightly and softly told me, "No matter what dangers we face, we must not separate."
I nodded vigorously, feeling warmth in my heart.
Thus, we cautiously crept along the edge of the train car, moving forward carefully. In the dim light, we tiptoed, afraid to make even the slightest sound. Although those ghost-like shadows still drifted about, they seemed unaware of us.
Lu Yuanbai and I remained vigilant as we slowly advanced, keeping an eye on our surroundings.
Suddenly, we heard a scream.
The sound was piercing and desperate, as if it came from the other end of the carriage.
Lu Yuanbai and I exchanged a glance, confusion evident in our eyes.
The scream was clearly human, likely from other passengers.
But it could also be a trap.
"Should we go take a look?" I asked softly.
Lu Yuanbai nodded and tightly grasped my hand.
"No matter what happens, we must not separate," he said firmly.
I took a deep breath, gathering my courage, and together with Lu Yuanbai, we walked toward the sound.
Each step felt like it was echoing the heartbeat in our chests, our footsteps resonating throughout the carriage.
In the darkness, Lu Yuanbai suddenly pointed ahead and whispered, "Do you see that? What is that thing?"
Following his finger, I saw an old suitcase lying alone in the corner of the carriage.
It seemed to have been there for a long time, witnessing many untold secrets.
I cautiously approached the suitcase, bent down, and gently opened it.
Inside were only some old clothes, nothing particularly special.
However, as I rummaged through the clothes, a yellowed diary caught my eye.
"What is this?" I asked quietly.
Lu Yuanbai also crouched down, staring at the diary with me.
