My pupils suddenly constricted, and an indescribable emotion surged within me. I turned to look at Lu Yuanbai, whose eyes also sparkled with shock and curiosity.
"Do you really have some important clues?" My voice carried a hint of urgency.
The mysterious passenger smiled slightly. "Indeed, I know many things that you are unaware of."
"Then why are you willing to share this information with us?" Lu Yuanbai stared intently at him, as if trying to find answers in his gaze.
"Because you are different," the mysterious passenger replied calmly. "You have the courage to face the truth."
"What is the true nature of this train?" Lu Yuanbai pressed again.
The mysterious passenger slowly moved closer to us, his voice growing deeper, as if afraid of being overheard by some unseen presence.
"This train is an endless cycle, a never-ending loop."
"Only those who truly comprehend its essence can find the path to liberation."
A chill ran through both Lu Yuanbai and me, as if this answer was more bizarre and unfathomable than we had anticipated.
"What should we do?" I asked.
The mysterious passenger handed me the ticket and said slowly, "Follow the guidance of these symbols; they will lead you forward."
He paused for a moment before continuing, "But please be very careful; the guardians of the train are not to be trifled with, and they will do everything in their power to stop you from leaving."
As soon as he finished speaking, his fingertips lightly touched the ticket, and those peculiar symbols seemed to come alive in an instant, glowing with a dim light.
Lu Yuanbai and I took the ticket, staring at the symbols as our inner doubts and curiosity grew stronger.
When we looked up, the figure of the mysterious passenger had already faded away, dissolving into the darkness of the carriage. His presence was like the curse of this train—mysterious and unfathomable.
The lights in the station flickered on and off, casting this carriage filled with passengers into a realm of eerie mystery, revealing endless dread and terror.
My heartbeat quickened with the onset of darkness, and my palms began to sweat as if I were about to face something terrifyingly unknown.
After a moment, the lights finally went out completely, plunging the entire carriage into boundless darkness.
Lu Yuanbai and I were thus swallowed by the darkness, disappearing from this world.
"Lu Yuanbai, where are you?" I called out anxiously and urgently, my voice filled with fear.
A warm palm tightly grasped my hand, and Lu Yuanbai's voice came clearly through the darkness: "I'm right here."
Hearing his response, I let out a slight sigh of relief; however, the fear deep within me did not dissipate.
In the darkness, there seemed to be ghostly figures drifting around us, their shapes vague and flickering, as if they were from another world. Accompanying them was a chilling, low wailing sound, like the call of spirits, instilling a sense of dread.
These ghostly figures were one of the supernatural phenomena reported in the newspapers. They seemed to have become part of the train, forever trapped in this dark space.
Lu Yuanbai and I huddled closely together, watching as these ghosts gradually approached, a deep despair rising within me.
"What should we do now?" I whispered.
Lu Yuanbai took a deep breath and slowly said, "We must not let them separate us."
He paused for a moment before continuing, "Let's stand back to back; we cannot break apart."
I nodded and stood firm back to back with Lu Yuanbai, cautiously moving toward the other end of the carriage.
