Yun Kexin quietly raised her eyes towards the source of the sound. Under the moonlight, she saw a young woman half-reclining on a rock, supporting herself with her hands. Her clothes had slipped down to her shoulders, revealing a beautiful face flushed with color, slightly contorted as she bit her red lips, clearly trying hard to suppress any sounds. The man on top of her was still sweating profusely and "twisting"—
"Reporting to you, my lord, it seems that the Fourth Young Master is suspicious of me..." the woman said through clenched teeth.
"Suspicious of what?" the man asked carelessly while continuing his movements.
"About the matter of the brocade box from the Third House of the Duke of E... um," the woman moaned intermittently, unable to hold back, "I don't know why, but the Fourth Young Master suddenly came to ask me about this."
"Is that all?" The man teased as he continued his actions in a lewd manner. "I thought he was going to suspect that you and I were having an affair."
The woman's breathing became increasingly short, her white thighs restlessly rubbing against the rock beneath her:
"No, no, the Consort has been very meticulous about this. He won't suspect anything and trusts me very much."
"Very good," the man said, unable to hide his smugness. "Using his trust to send women into his room, I want to see how long he can endure. Once he becomes infatuated with beauty, this Duke of Yan's residence will eventually be ours."
"Yes, my lord, um—" The woman let out a long moan and then went limp.
Hiding behind the rock, Yun Kexin initially intended to leave as it was inappropriate to watch. However, upon hearing the mention of "Third House" and "brocade box," she suddenly froze but accidentally slipped and made a slight noise as a stone clattered in the quiet night—
"Who!" The man turned his face towards the sound, alertly calling out.
Yun Kexin couldn't afford to think much; she turned and ran. In her panic, she dashed around without knowing where she was going. Not far behind her, she heard the man's shouts of "Catch the assassin! Catch the assassin!"
Like a headless fly in the vast Duke's residence, Yun Kexin played a game of "hide and seek" with countless servants. In her confusion, she remembered that Shanying and Shanyue had told her that Feng Yinxiao's study was located in the courtyard behind the stone arch bridge, facing south. If any emergencies arose, it would be safer to hide inside because Young Lord had ordered that no one should enter his study without permission. Sometimes he would even lock the door...
After some effort, Yun Kexin finally found that "south-facing" study. She discovered that the door was unlocked and it was pitch dark inside. Grateful that Shanying had returned late today, she gently pushed open the door and closed it behind her. Using the faint moonlight coming through the window, Yun Kexin felt out the general layout of the study: it was quite large with bookshelves lining one side of the door—very tall. If it weren't for the urgent situation, she would have liked to take a look at some books; Shanyue had mentioned it before.
Suddenly, she heard faint footsteps outside and saw a growing light as someone approached. Yun Kexin was startled: how could someone come here? She quickly scanned the study and was dumbfounded; apart from that prominent bed across from her line of sight, there was nowhere else to hide.
In a dilemma, she tiptoed closer and climbed onto the bed, hiding under the covers while leaving a small gap to observe what was happening.
Moments later, someone opened the door and closed it again. Yun Kexin peeked out from the gap in the blanket and could only see the person's abdomen. From the fabric, she could tell it was a man. Who could it be? Could it be Shining and Shan Yue coming to find her? They had disguised themselves as men just like she did. Yun Kexin wanted to open the gap in the blanket a bit more to see clearly, but then she heard a sharp voice: "Who is it? Come out now!"
Yun Kexin was shocked and covered her mouth with her hand: How could it be Feng Yinxiao's voice? Wasn't he at the Training Ground?
Meeting like this at this time and place was so awkward! Stay calm! She had to stay calm!
"Which bold thief dares to hide in my Study? If you don't come out, I'll lift the blanket!"
Yun Kexin couldn't care less about his "warning." She held onto the inside of the blanket tightly, feeling a pair of hands tugging at it, trying to pull it away. Helpless, she gently pulled down the blanket just enough to reveal her shiny eyes. Seeing that it was indeed Feng Yinxiao in front of her, she felt both relieved and embarrassed, timidly saying, "Young Lord, it's me."
Feng Yinxiao was so startled that he nearly dropped the blanket, exclaiming, "Seventh Sister? How did you end up here?"
"I... I..." Yun Kexin turned her eyes awkwardly—there was no way to explain even if she had a hundred mouths. She tried hard to calm herself down and said, "Please don't make a fuss, Young Lord. I'll explain everything to you later, alright?"
Before Feng Yinxiao could respond, voices outside calling for "catching the assassin" grew closer, heading straight for the Study. Soon after, there were loud knocks on the door—
"Is Xiao'er inside? It's Uncle."
Yun Kexin was shocked: wasn't this the man who had just been caught in a compromising position with a woman near Zhuo Min Garden? He was actually Feng Yinxiao's Uncle! Then she recalled that the woman had referred to him as "Marquis Jiangyin."
"Uncle, Nephew needs to get up early tomorrow to return to the Training Ground for the Martial Examination preparations. I need to rest now; do you have something to discuss?" Feng Yinxiao replied.
"Nephew may not know," Feng Hongwen said, "but an assassin has infiltrated the manor and was sneaking around Aunt Zhuo's place. After being discovered, they ran this way. Uncle fears that the assassin might be hiding inside and poses a threat to Nephew, so I came to check..."
Feng Yinxiao knew his Uncle Feng Hongwen's temperament well; if he didn't let him in, it would raise greater suspicion. He might end up guarding outside the Study day and night, making it extremely difficult for Yun Kexin to escape.
Thinking of this, Feng Yinxiao quietly returned to bed and lay down. Yun Kexin awkwardly shifted further into the bed. Feng Yinxiao smiled slightly and pulled up the blanket over her head and face before deliberately scattering his clothes on the floor. He then called out towards the door, "In that case, Uncle please come in."
Feng Hongwen and several attendants stormed in, accompanied by a young and beautiful woman whose face still bore a faint blush from earlier excitement.
“Aunt Zhuo, you are here too?” Feng Yinxiao was somewhat surprised to see the beautiful woman beside Uncle. “At this hour?”
Zhuo Min's smile froze for a moment, then she quickly began to pace around the study, saying, “Yinxiao, are you alright? Just now, Consort returned from your sister's place and was about to go to bed when I heard someone shout ‘assassin.’” Zhuo Min anxiously scanned every corner of the study as she spoke. “I also heard that the assassin came to your study, so I came to take a look.”
“Thank you for your concern, Aunt Zhuo,” Feng Yinxiao replied lightly with a smile. “As you can see, although my study is large, there’s nowhere to hide. Whether it’s a person or even a mosquito that flies in, it would have nowhere to escape.”
“That’s true,” Feng Hongwen said with a suspicious gaze as he looked around the study, his brow furrowed. “This concerns the safety of the Duke's residence; how can I stand by and do nothing?”
As they spoke, Feng Hongwen and Zhuo Min had already walked to the bedside. Zhuo Min's keen eyes noticed that the blanket on Feng Yinxiao's bed was slightly bulging, as if someone were hiding underneath.
“Yinxiao, you usually sleep alone; don’t catch a cold…” Zhuo Min pretended to cover Feng Yinxiao with the blanket and reached out to lift it.
“Hey, Aunt Zhuo, don’t!” Feng Yinxiao quickly pressed down on the blanket with his large hand, his face slightly flushed.
“What’s wrong? Is there an issue?” Feng Hongwen interjected calmly.
“Inside here,” Feng Yinxiao lowered his head slightly and scratched his ear, finding it increasingly difficult to speak. “There’s a girl I brought back from Wanhualou.”
“What?” Aunt Zhuo's hand that was about to lift the blanket suddenly froze, her eyes widening in shock. “Yinxiao went to Wanhualou to find a woman?”
Feng Hongwen was also taken aback: This child actually indulged himself?!
“Um, not really,” Feng Yinxiao turned his face away and gave a childish smile to Uncle and Aunt Zhuo. “During this martial arts examination, a candidate invited me to Wanhualou for drinks and even had the top courtesan serve us. It was only after drinking that I learned this top courtesan is actually the sister of a martial artist. I thought she was quite nice, so I brought her back home just to lighten the mood.”
“Oh, is that so?” Feng Hongwen sneered. “Which top courtesan could make my nephew lose control and break ‘the rules’? Uncle would like to see for himself.”
“Look at you, Lord Marquis,” Zhuo Min seemed to be performing in tandem with Feng Hongwen as she shot him a glance. “Yinxiao has reached marriageable age; if he weren’t so stubborn, he might already have children. I’ve been worried he might be ‘holding it in’ too much; this is a good thing.” She paused slightly, her smile blooming like a peony. “However, Yinxiao, Concubine is also very curious about which girl has such charm that made you disregard some ‘rules’ and bring her back. Let Concubine see for herself, shall we?”
Zhuo Min's words had barely left her lips when she reached to lift the blanket again, and Feng Yinxiao's face turned even redder as she stammered, "Oh, Aunt Zhuo, we... we are both naked."
As soon as she finished speaking, both Zhuo Min and Feng Hongwen felt an inexplicable heat rising to their ears, spreading down their necks and along their spines all the way to the soles of their feet.
"Oh, so that's how it is," Zhuo Min said awkwardly, lowering her hands as if all her actions were exposed under the watchful eyes of others. "Then, Xiao'er, continue... The Concubine will come back to meet this girl tomorrow."
Feng Hongwen had initially been somewhat skeptical, but recalling the chaotic scene he had encountered upon entering the Study and Feng Yinxiao's unusual behavior, he became convinced—he had always wished for him to indulge in romance, and now that there were signs of it, why not support him?
"Xiao'er, you really don't give Uncle any face," Feng Hongwen laughed heartily. "In the past, whenever I sent a maid to your room, you would chase her away. Now you actually... Alright, Uncle already knows your 'taste.' Don't worry; this matter will be kept secret. I won't let your elder brother and Sister-in-law know."
"Thank you, Uncle, thank you, Concubine..." At this moment, Feng Yinxiao's face looked as if it had been soaked in red paper, and with her shy tone, it was hard for anyone to suspect anything.
"Alright, a moment of intimacy is worth a thousand gold," Feng Hongwen shamelessly chuckled. "We won't disturb you any longer."
After exchanging a meaningful glance with Zhuo Min and smiling broadly, he led his servants out of the Study.
