Before I could gather my thoughts, Qi Qianyu sat down across from me.
He winked at me and said, "What's wrong? Can't bear to part with your lover?"
I snapped back to reality, "What are you doing here?"
He chuckled, "I'm here to have a meal."
Leaning closer, he asked mysteriously, "That Su Wanwan, is she your rival in love?"
I nodded; she was my best friend but also my rival.
He smiled knowingly, "Don't be sad. I'll be here for you."
I was taken aback, "Were those people just now arranged by you?"
He raised an eyebrow, "Yes, I can't stand to see you upset over someone unworthy."
With that, he stood up and left.
I was left feeling confused.
After finishing my meal, I prepared to head back home.
As soon as I stepped out of the restaurant, I saw Qi Qianyu standing not far away, waving at me.
I walked over and asked, "Is there something you need?"
He smiled and said, "I just told you, I will be with you."
"Ah?" I blinked, confused.
He coughed lightly, and his expression suddenly became serious.
"Ye Qingyu, I like you."
His voice was clear and loud, carrying far and wide.
Passersby turned to look.
I opened my mouth, stunned.
What is he doing?
Why is he confessing his feelings in front of so many people?
My cheeks burned as I tugged at his sleeve and walked forward.
He followed me, a smirk of triumph on his lips.
When we reached a quieter corner, I let go of his sleeve.
His eyes dimmed. "Aren't you going to accept me?"
I bit my lip, feeling a mix of emotions. "You're still young; what do you know about love?"
Our families have been close for generations, and Qi Qianyu's personality matches mine well, so I have always regarded him as my younger brother.
But I never expected that he would develop feelings for me.
Qi Qianyu's eyes were red as he said, "I'm not young; how will you know if you don't try..."
I sighed, "Give me some time."
"Okay."
That night, I lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep.
All I could think about was He Xiao's face.
Was my feeling for He Xiao really coming to an end?
Was I really going to let him go and seek a new life?
But I had silently liked him for so many years; how could I just let go like that?
The next day, I went to the academy with two huge dark circles under my eyes.
Qi Qianyu approached me with a worried expression, "Did you not sleep well last night?"
Although we all studied at the Royal Academy, Qi Qianyu usually didn't come to find me; he had his own peers to play with.
I shook my head, "It's nothing."
Qi Qianyu pressed his lips together and asked, "Do you want to go for a walk with me?"
I hesitated for a moment and then nodded.
Qi Qianyu took me to climb the back mountain of the academy.
Along the way, neither of us spoke.
When we reached the top of the mountain, he stood against the wind, his gaze distant. "Look, the sunlight on the lake surface looks like it's sprinkled with gold dust, doesn't it?"
Following his gaze, I saw the lake shimmering with golden light, like a golden ribbon, breathtakingly beautiful.
I nodded. "It's so beautiful."
Qi Qianyu looked at me, his eyes glimmering slightly. "Are you feeling better?"
I was taken aback for a moment before realizing that he brought me here to help me relax and feel happy again.
A warmth spread in my heart. "Much better, thank you."
Qi Qianyu shook his head. "No need to thank me."
After a pause, he added, "As long as you want, I can always be here for you."
My heart skipped a beat.
Is he... confessing to me?
My cheeks were burning, and I didn't know what to say.
Qi Qianyu chuckled lightly, "Don't be nervous. I just want to say that no matter what happens, I will stand by your side, support you, and protect you."
My nose felt a bit sour. "Why are you so nice to me?"
He ruffled my hair. "Because I like you."
I lowered my gaze, my heart fluttering.
Qi Qianyu's kindness stood in stark contrast to He Xiao's indifference towards me.
When I was with him, I felt relaxed and comfortable.
I could freely express my thoughts without worrying too much.
Perhaps I could really try to let go of He Xiao and be with Qi Qianyu.
I looked up at his bright eyes and said, "I'm willing to give it a try."
Qi Qianyu was slightly taken aback but quickly reacted, a look of pure joy spreading across his face. "Really? You really want to be with me?"
I nodded. "I do."
He excitedly lifted me up and spun around.
I gasped and quickly wrapped my arms around his neck, afraid of falling.
Qi Qianyu smiled as he set me down and held me tightly, saying, "I will always treat you well."
My cheeks flushed slightly as I buried my head in his shoulder.
After being with Qi Qianyu, our lives became very happy.
He would accompany me on outings, take me to try various delicious foods, and comfort me when I was feeling down.
Every day spent with him brings me great joy.
This is what it feels like to be loved.
In the past, when I was with He Xiao, I was always worried—worried that he would leave me, worried that he would dislike me.
But now, I no longer worry about those things.
Because I know that Qi Qianyu will always be by my side. No matter what happens, he will stand by me, support me, and protect me.
