At this moment, the sound of thunder was almost deafening, and naturally, Ling Mo Xie did not hear the discussions around him. He could only gaze up at the continuously rolling Tribulation Cloud in the sky, but there was no Tribulation Thunder falling down. A sense of worry began to creep into his heart, and he furrowed his brow.
"Boom!" A tremendous sound erupted, like the collapse of a mountain or the sinking of the sea. The first Tribulation Thunder struck down towards Ling Mo Xie without any warning.
The Tribulation Thunder flickered with blue light, indicating its immense power and incredible speed. Almost as soon as Ling Mo Xie spotted the Tribulation Thunder, it was already upon him in the blink of an eye, causing him to feel a surge of fear.
Meanwhile, the Daoist Disciples in the distance saw this Tribulation Thunder and were astonished, discussing among themselves: "This first Tribulation Thunder has such power? I remember that when our Senior Brothers faced their tribulations, it took at least three or four Tribulation Thunders to have such strength!"
"You’re not mistaken. It seems that Ling Mo Xie’s Tribulation Thunder is indeed problematic. Didn’t they say that those who entered the Heavenly Sound Secret Realm could almost certainly pass through the tribulation? But for Ling Mo Xie... I think it’s doubtful! And we still don’t know if it’s a Five Elements Tribulation or a Seven Star Tribulation..."
In the Cultivation World, tribulations are categorized into many types, with the two most common being Five Elements Tribulation and Seven Star Tribulation. As their names suggest, Five Elements Tribulation consists of five different types of Tribulation Thunder falling down to be considered complete, while Seven Star Tribulation requires overcoming seven pieces of Tribulation Thunder infused with stellar power.
These are just the two most frequently encountered types; there are other forms of Tribulation Thunder as well, with some requiring only three pieces to pass.
At this moment, the Daoist Disciples believed that regardless of whether it was a Five Elements Tribulation or a Seven Star Tribulation, based on the power of this first piece of Tribulation Thunder alone, Ling Mo Xie would definitely not be able to overcome it. If it were a rare Sanctuary Tribulation, perhaps there might be a glimmer of hope.
However, Ling Mo Xie had no time to care about what others thought; he was already prepared to resist the impending strike of the Tribulation Thunder.
Strangely enough, just as the fierce Tribulation Thunder was about to hit Ling Mo Xie, it suddenly vanished into thin air!
Of course, due to the incredible speed of the Tribulation Thunder, only Ling Mo Xie himself understood that it had not actually struck him. The other Daoist Disciples merely perceived an illusion that the Tribulation Thunder had landed on Ling Mo Xie and were unaware that it had disappeared just before making contact.
Ling Mo Xie was taken aback. What was going on? Was this legendary Tribulation Thunder that cultivators feared like a tiger merely a scare tactic?
Could it be that those who died under the Tribulation Thunder were not actually killed but simply frightened to death?
Just when Ling Mo Xie was puzzled, he saw a new progress bar appear in the System, and upon glancing at the small text beside it, he realized it was for charging progress...
Well, it turned out to be the System's doing again!
Ling Mo Xie curled his lips in realization. It seemed that today’s tribulation would be much simpler than he had imagined. The System needed the energy from the Tribulation Thunder to upgrade; it couldn’t just upgrade out of thin air. He should have thought of this earlier. Last time, when the System upgraded an Alchemical Furnace, it even gave him a Task to complete. How could the System upgrade without needing anything?
Since the System required the energy from the Tribulation Thunder, Ling Mo Xie immediately relaxed and felt reassured. No matter how Not Bad the Tribulation Thunder was, it was merely going to serve as energy for the System's upgrade.
Seeing that Ling Mo Xie didn’t even cast a defensive Spell and simply "caught" the first bolt of Tribulation Thunder out of thin air, looking completely unfazed, the Daoist Disciples watching were astonished.
They had originally been betting on how many bolts of Tribulation Thunder Ling Mo Xie could withstand. Most people wagered on two or three bolts, and some even bet that he wouldn’t survive a single one. However, they never expected that Ling Mo Xie appeared so relaxed during his tribulation. Based on his current performance, he could easily withstand not just two or three bolts but even five or six!
As a result, everyone wore bitter expressions; they had all lost their bets. In contrast, Xu Qingfeng and Hong Chi were grinning from ear to ear. How could they miss out on such excitement?
Hong Chi was filled with confidence in his leader and had nearly bet everything he owned on him. Xu Qingfeng also supported Ling Mo Xie as a friend and naturally hoped he could overcome all the tribulations. While others were betting that Ling Mo Xie could only withstand two or three bolts of Tribulation Thunder, he put forth a considerable amount of Spirit Stones betting that Ling Mo Xie would pass through all of them.
The wealth of the Daoist Disciples was evident, and Xu Qingfeng couldn’t help but grin widely at this unexpected gain.
After realizing that the System needed energy from the Tribulation Thunder to charge and upgrade, Ling Mo Xie's mood relaxed significantly. He looked up at the sky filled with Tribulation Thunder, his gaze different from before—now filled with ease—as he simply sat down cross-legged, waiting for the Tribulation Thunder to pass.
His actions undoubtedly left the surrounding Daoist Disciples even more astonished. What was this guy doing? He had just passed through so easily; was he giving up now? Or did he become complacent about the Tribulation Thunder, believing it wouldn’t cause him any harm?
Or perhaps he had obtained some special method to defend against the thunder during his time in the Heavenly Sound Secret Realm, which he had already set up? They just didn’t know or couldn’t see it?
Of course, if Ling Mo Xie knew about this last possibility, he would directly tell them that they were completely overthinking it!
Another wave rolled through, and the second Tribulation Thunder was quickly expelled, moving faster than the first Tribulation Thunder had before, instantly arriving above Ling Mo Xie's head.
Seeing Ling Mo Xie still maintaining his calm demeanor, the surrounding Daoist Disciples couldn't help but feel a bit anxious for him, while Ling Mo Xie remained unfazed.
Of course, he wasn't completely indifferent to this Tribulation Thunder. Although he felt some caution in his heart, he was not as tense as before.
As expected, the Tribulation Thunder did not strike him; instead, it was absorbed by the System, becoming energy for its upgrade.
The hearts of the Daoist Disciples fluctuated with each strike. This Tribulation Thunder seemed so fierce; could it really lack power? How could Ling Mo Xie navigate this tribulation so easily? Was the Heavenly Sound Secret Realm truly that Not Bad?
The Daoist Disciples were filled with thoughts, believing that various legends about the Heavenly Sound Secret Realm, about Ling Mo Xie, and about the thunder tribulation would likely spread tomorrow.
Since the thunder tribulation was energy for the System's upgrade, Ling Mo Xie no longer worried. As the Tribulation Thunder continued to fall, the progress bar for the System's charging increased. The Daoist Disciples counted each strike of the Tribulation Thunder, quickly reaching the seventh one. They watched as that thunder, as thick as a water bucket, rapidly descended upon Ling Mo Xie, thinking to themselves that it seemed like this thunder tribulation would be easily passed by him. After overcoming the previous six strikes without sustaining any injuries, it appeared that this final strike wouldn't harm him either.
In the eyes of the Daoist Disciples, who believed they had seen the outcome, that bolt of Tribulation Thunder struck solidly against Ling Mo Xie. However, from their perspective, in reality, this bolt was still absorbed by the System, causing no harm whatsoever to Ling Mo Xie.
Seeing Ling Mo Xie once again pass through this bolt of Tribulation Thunder effortlessly, the Daoist Disciples were no longer surprised; instead, their expressions reflected a sense of inevitability.
Just when they thought that the Tribulation Cloud was about to dissipate and that Ling Mo Xie had successfully navigated his tribulation—something even he believed—this time, the sky's Tribulation Thunder did not fade away. Instead, it surged and roiled as if angered. The originally red bolts of Tribulation Thunder suddenly turned pitch black and continued to churn. Even the already distant Daoist Disciples, who had moved away knowing that Ling Mo Xie was undergoing a tribulation, were pushed back a few steps by the strong winds whipped up by this thunder.
Everyone looked up in shock at the changes in the sky's Tribulation Thunder, retreating further back with expressions of trepidation on their faces. The power emanating from it felt as if it could destroy heaven and earth.
Even though many of the Daoist Disciples had witnessed numerous tribulations before, seeing this change in the sky's Tribulation Thunder, they still felt as bewildered and helpless as they had during their very first encounter with someone undergoing a tribulation.
Although Ling Mo Xie was directly beneath the Tribulation Thunder and could feel its power the most, he remained the calmest. He glanced at the charging progress bar in the System Panel, which had not yet filled up, knowing that this Tribulation Thunder was just another challenge for the System, so he did not panic.
After the Daoist Disciples retreated to a safe place, they began to discuss again: "This... this last Tribulation Thunder has already passed, why is there still more Tribulation Thunder?"
"Yeah, yeah, which Senior Brother has heard of this situation? Come out and explain!"
As the Daoist Disciples called out, a Refined Young Man, resembling a graceful gentleman, stepped forward. He waved his fan and shook his head as he said, "Junior Disciples, I have seen this situation mentioned in a book."
Hearing his calm tone, the other Daoist Disciples immediately urged him to speak quickly!
The man raised an eyebrow with a somewhat smug expression and looked at his Junior Disciples as if they were country bumpkins before he slowly explained: "As everyone knows, this Tribulation Thunder is generally divided into..."
Just as he was about to elaborate on the types of Tribulation Thunder, he was interrupted by the impatient Daoist Disciples.
"You said it's common knowledge; we all know that! Do you actually know anything?"
Hearing their impatient remarks, he could only clear his throat and get straight to the point: "I have heard of a type of Not Bad Tribulation Thunder that does not appear often. The last time it appeared was during the Cultivation World’s Hundred Schools of Thought Contending for Domination when many geniuses emerged. It seems that the Tribulation Thunder Ling Mo Xie is facing resembles that legendary Tribulation Thunder!"
Upon hearing his words, the Daoist Disciples' eyes lit up with interest: "So it's that Not Bad? Hurry up and tell us more!"
