"Boom!" A loud noise erupted, and a firework that only Ling Mo Xie could see burst into the sky. The vengeful spirit fell to the ground, and several items shimmered like shooting stars as they flew towards Ling Mo Xie, automatically entering his backpack.
Ling Mo Xie heard distant roars that were getting closer. He quickly turned his head to look and rushed into Skywind City while casually rummaging through his backpack.
The vengeful spirit didn't drop anything particularly valuable, but surprisingly, there was another Please Summon Fragrance? It seemed that the drop rate for Please Summon Fragrance here was quite high.
Just after Ling Mo Xie left the City Wall, a dozen or so wraiths and vengeful spirits arrived. They howled angrily for a while but, finding no prey, dispersed on their own.
At this moment, Ling Mo Xie had already entered Skywind City.
The once-bustling streets were now empty, with strong winds carrying Resentment, stirring up the scattered debris on the ground and sending it flying through the air.
The chaotic streets revealed the disordered scene of the residents of Skywind City fleeing. Just as Ling Mo Xie sighed at the sight, a shadow darted towards him from a small alleyway beside the street.
Ling Mo Xie reacted swiftly and threw a Glimpse of the Stunning Swan. The shadow let out a howl and stopped; Ling Mo Xie then realized it was an intermediate wraith.
With the wraith's howl, Ling Mo Xie saw several more wraiths rushing out from nearby alleys and houses along the street, charging towards him.
Ling Mo Xie's lips curled into a light smile; they were just a few small fry after all.
However, this reminded him that he wasn't here to lament but to level up and eliminate the source of Resentment in the lord's mansion.
Ling Mo Xie kept his eyes peeled and ears open, memorizing the movements of these wraiths. He unleashed his skills one after another while constantly dodging their attacks.
In no time at all, these wraiths fell at Ling Mo Xie's feet. He dusted off his immaculate white robe and muttered that taking down these wraiths only netted him a mere tens of thousands of Experience Points, far from leveling up. However, he did manage to collect quite a bit of Please Summon Fragrance.
Shaking his head, Ling Mo Xie headed straight for City Center Square, where many residents usually gathered. There should be plenty of vengeful spirits there, and besides, the Lord's Mansion and the Arena were not far from that location, so there would likely be many resentful entities as well.
Thus, while hunting down the vengeful spirits that crossed his path, Ling Mo Xie made his way to that "leveling holy land."
These vengeful spirits were merely ordinary residents transformed; their cultivation levels were not high. Even after becoming vengeful spirits, they were mostly intermediate or early-stage. As he approached City Center Square, Ling Mo Xie had yet to encounter a single Advanced Grudge Ghost, though he did come across a few Adventurers scavenging in the residential areas along the streets.
However, Ling Mo Xie looked down on these opportunistic individuals and chose to ignore them.
Due to his simultaneous journey to the square and hunting of vengeful spirits, Ling Mo Xie did not arrive at a restaurant outside City Square until the next day. There were also quite a few vengeful spirits here.
Ling Mo Xie gazed from afar at the thick Resentment in the square, where faintly visible vengeful spirits and resentful entities lurked. He calculated that although he had leveled up three times to reach level seventy-four, charging in without caution amidst the siege of those vengeful spirits and resentful entities would likely lead to disaster.
Moreover, since this area was close to the Lord's Mansion, the Resentment was much denser than in other places. The resentful entities and vengeful spirits inside were probably not to be underestimated either.
Standing on the roof of the restaurant outside the square, Ling Mo Xie observed the plaza filled with dense Resentment, occasionally hearing the howls of resentful entities from within.
The Arena was also nearby; there were far more resentful entities here than in other locations. What was worse was that resentful entities of the same level were much stronger than vengeful spirits!
Ling Mo Xie unconsciously rubbed his hands together, a habitual action when he fell into deep thought.
"Got it!" Ling Mo Xie exclaimed softly in surprise. How could he have forgotten about Please Summon Fragrance? Although its grade was low, its quantity made up for it!
Ling Mo Xie felt a bit disappointed with himself afterward; upon seeing the scene before him, he had only thought of high-grade items and failed to realize that sometimes low-grade items could have unexpected effects!
"Speaking of which, I haven't tried out Please Summon Fragrance yet since its grade is too low. I should test its effectiveness first!" Ling Mo Xie murmured to himself as he took out Please Summon Fragrance from his backpack.
Although it can be used in the backpack, unless it's an emergency, he still prefers to take it out; otherwise, it really feels like playing a game, and it just doesn't seem real.
"Wow!" Ling Mo Xie exclaimed. It didn't feel that big when it was in the backpack, but taking it out, this Please Summon Fragrance was enormous, resembling a large pillar, as thick as a thigh and approximately 1.5 meters long, with black patterns on it. However, Ling Mo Xie couldn't make out what the drawings were; they looked like childish scribbles!
"It really is more for the same price!" Ling Mo Xie placed Please Summon Fragrance in front of him and marveled at it. The commotion even attracted two Junior Grudge Ghosts, which Ling Mo Xie easily dealt with using a few Fireballs.
Unlike in the game, these skills would increase in power as his level and proficiency improved. The current Fireball was not the same as the one Ling Mo Xie had when he first acquired the skill.
"Whoosh!" A Fireball struck this... well, this Please Summon Fragrance. A thin wisp of black smoke rose instantly, although it wasn't very noticeable amidst the grayish Resentment.
Just as Ling Mo Xie was waiting to summon an Underworld Creature, a small yellow figure suddenly appeared in front of Please Summon Fragrance, sitting calmly on the roof.
"Uh, is this an Underworld Creature?" Ling Mo Xie looked at the small lion-like being in confusion. It wasn't until it settled down that he realized it wasn't entirely yellow; there was a hint of red within it, bright and shiny. Its dark eyes sparkled with intelligence, and its form was graceful. If it weren't so small, one could even say it looked majestic.
This is way too unreliable! Is this really an Underworld Creature? Why can't I remember anything like this from the Underworld?
Ling Mo Xie recalled that there were bull-headed horse-faced beings, black and white impermanence, and the Judge Yama in the Underworld, but he had never heard of this creature before. With its cute appearance, it clearly looked like a little pet!
Pet? As Ling Mo Xie thought about this, his mind paused. If we're talking about pets, there were indeed some in the Underworld; wasn't Ksitigarbha's pet supposed to be Jizo?
Ling Mo Xie unconsciously propped up his arm and pinched his chin while gazing at the creature before him, lost in thought.
