Without waiting for Mo Xie to speculate too much, the ceiling emitted an increasingly loud cracking sound, and fragments began to fall. Mo Xie quickly stopped and called out to Nan Jianjun, "Hey! Wait a minute, look! Is there something wrong with that ceiling? Will we get hit if we walk past it?"
Nan Jianjun was highly focused on dealing with the toxins in front of him and hadn't heard the noise from above. Upon hearing Mo Xie's words, he was momentarily stunned, which allowed Mo Xie to cast a fire wall spell to fend off the toxins behind them. Turning around, he suddenly changed color and exclaimed, "Not good! Brother Mo Xie! This might be the evolved toxins I was worried about!"
"What evolved toxins?" Mo Xie asked in confusion; he had only recently arrived in this world and hadn't heard of many things yet. Nan Jianjun tightened his grip on his sword. "Those toxins were released from specialized breeding pools; you should know that! But this Death Warrior training base hasn't been used for a long time, and for some unknown reason, when it was abandoned, they completely left the devices for training Death Warriors operational. Thus, the breeding pools are still continuously producing toxins."
The cracking sound from the ceiling grew louder. Nan Jianjun swallowed hard. "And since they haven't been released, under prolonged confinement, it's survival of the fittest. It's very likely that they have evolved into beasts! And those beasts are bloody and brutal, with considerable strength!"
"Boom!" Just as Nan Jianjun finished speaking, a beast crashed down onto the floor, causing more debris to fall from the ceiling.
The beast was entirely black and resembled a massive spider over two meters tall, with legs longer than three meters and thicker than a bowl. Standing before it, Mo Xie and Nan Jianjun looked like tiny figures.
The spider's eyes were crimson. Upon seeing Mo Xie and Nan Jianjun, it swung one of its legs and charged at them.
Nan Jianjun swung his sword, unleashing a brilliant sword light that sliced through the spider's long leg as easily as cutting tofu.
Mo Xie quickly reacted as well, casting Frostfall on the spider. Instantly, a layer of frost enveloped the giant spider, slowing its movements slightly. Nan Jianjun glanced at Mo Xie in surprise; back when Mo Xie accidentally entered his training area, he had roughly similar cultivation levels!
Now, however, the spell he cast seemed to be on par with late-stage enlightenment!
"Hiss!" The spider spat out a crystal-clear, colorless silk thread aimed at Mo Xie and Nan Jianjun. Nan Jianjun hurriedly slashed at the thread with his sword but was unexpectedly caught off guard when the thread stuck to his sword!
Mo Xie quickly cast a Fireball at the thread; only then did it catch fire and burn for quite some time before snapping with a loud bang. Before Mo Xie and Nan Jianjun could strike again, the giant spider opened its mouth and spewed forth a deep green liquid towards them.
Nan Jianjun's expression changed, "Quick, hide! That's venom!" Spiders are inherently poisonous, and this evolved Spider Beast's venom must be extremely toxic! Ling Mo Xie quickly activated a skill, narrowly avoiding the venom attack.
Nan Jianjun, on the other hand, was much more graceful. With a few swift movements, he elegantly dodged the venom attack and looked at Ling Mo Xie in surprise. He was puzzled; how could Ling Mo Xie have so many spells and pull out something incomprehensible at will? Yet, why did his movement look so awkward? Was it his own appreciation skills that were lacking?
Seeing Nan Jianjun's astonished gaze, Ling Mo Xie felt a flush of embarrassment. His movement style was truly shameful and didn't match his image at all! It seemed he needed to develop a more graceful movement style in the future!
Before Ling Mo Xie and Nan Jianjun could think further, the spider, known for its ferocity, became enraged upon seeing that Ling Mo Xie and Nan Jianjun had evaded its attack. It opened its mouth and spat out a massive web toward them.
"Hmph! You think you can scare me?!" Ling Mo Xie summoned his pet Big White and launched several fireballs at the giant spider!
Boom! The fireballs struck the spider, igniting it in flames and turning it to ashes that fell to the ground. Suddenly, Big White wagged its tail and was startled by the enormous spider in front of it. Anger surged within; after all, it was the King of Beasts! How could it be frightened by a mere spider? Even if it was an accident, that was absolutely unforgivable!
Big White transformed, growing larger until it towered over the spider. "Roar!" It let out a loud roar that made the spider take a few steps back. After hesitating for a moment, it still spat out silk toward Big White.
In anger, Big White slapped the silk away but found itself stuck. It unleashed a Soul Snatching Tiger skill on the spider, which began to struggle violently.
In truth, this Spider Beast was equivalent to an early level four creature, one level higher than Big White. That was why it hadn't been directly soul-snatched but was still thrown into chaos.
Ling Mo Xie seized the opportunity to leap onto the spider's back. He took out the Balao Blade from his backpack and plunged it into the spider's massive back. A foul stench assaulted his senses as the Balao Blade turned black with a thick, disgusting liquid oozing from the wound, making Ling Mo Xie feel nauseous.
The immense pain caused the spider to thrash violently. Ling Mo Xie had no choice but to grip the handle of the Balao Blade tightly to avoid falling off. Seeing Ling Mo Xie's predicament, Nan Jianjun did not stand idly by; he drew his longsword and with several afterimages flashing past, he severed all eight of the spider's long legs, causing it to crash to the ground and become immobile while hissing continuously.
Nan Jianjun stood firm on his legs, breathing heavily. Those few strikes had exhausted his spiritual energy; one could say he had pushed himself beyond his limits. Otherwise, did anyone think that cutting through a level four Spirit Beast's body would be as easy as slicing through tofu?
"Ha ha!" Ling Mo Xie laughed heartily, using all his strength to grip the handle of the Balao Blade and push it forward, while he continuously ran forward on the spider's back. The sound of slicing echoed as Ling Mo Xie cut through the spider's tough exoskeleton, and foul-smelling liquid gushed out, prompting him to accelerate even more. Who would want to stay in such a stinky environment?
In the end, Ling Mo Xie cut a circular section from the spider's hard back with his blade. As he reached the final point, he quickly jumped down. Then, a fireball was thrown up. The severed shell was blasted away by the fireball, and several more fireballs landed inside the spider's body, igniting the foul liquid into a raging fire.
