Quickly downing a few small red potions, my Health Points gradually stabilized, but the bad luck negative status remained. I didn't have any potions or skills to remove negative statuses!
Thinking back, I realized that I had somehow separated from Nan Jianjun. I hurriedly glanced behind me and, sure enough, even Big White was nowhere to be seen! However, hmph! I smiled; Big White is my pet. I clicked the recall button in the System interface, and with a whoosh, Big White returned to my side.
At that moment, Big White looked disheveled, with some wounds on its body and only half of its Health Points remaining. It seemed it had also encountered those Vampire Bats. "Awooo!" Upon seeing the space shift, Big White looked around curiously and quickly ran over to me, hugging my leg and whining pitifully.
"Alright! Alright!" I patted Big White's head to comfort it and sighed: It's a pity that Big White is only a Level 3 spirit beast with low intelligence; otherwise, it could understand the situation after we got separated, which would help me assess the circumstances!
With a flicker, the Fireball was extinguished again. Earlier, I had walked a bit forward and arrived in front of a skeleton. At this moment, as the Fireball went out, flapping sounds came from all directions. I could even feel the air in the passageway moving faster. Feeling my Health Points continuously decreasing, I cursed angrily: "Damn it! Is this never-ending?"
Boom! A Fireball shot out towards the front, with sizzling and popping sounds echoing as some Bats were hit by the fireball, igniting in flames and falling to the ground charred.
"Hmph!" I crushed several Bats clinging to me and sighed in disgust. The Fireballs kept flying out from my hand, incinerating many Bats that fell to the ground one after another, quickly covering the area with a layer of dead Bats.
Although many Bats had died, there seemed to be an endless stream of them flying towards me! Killing them was fine, but what was frustrating was that these Bats didn’t even drop any Experience points!
No Experience points? Suddenly, I remembered that I only needed to kill living creatures; even a small bug would yield some forced Experience. Why were these Level 1 spirit beasts not giving any Experience? Could it be that they weren't living beings?
This speculation made me even more anxious. What people fear most is often the unknown. If these were indeed Bats, then killing them would suffice; but if my feelings were wrong all along and what lay before me wasn't real, that would be even more unsettling!
I raised several firewalls around me to block the Bats' attacks while pondering this matter. If these Bats didn’t provide Experience points and truly weren’t living beings, then they must just be illusions.
Recalling how Nan Jianjun had clearly been walking ahead of me but suddenly disappeared made me wonder if it was also due to an illusion. Did we not actually separate? Were our eyes deceiving us so that we couldn’t sense each other’s presence?
"Ah! What on earth is going on!" Ling Mo Xie shouted in frustration, feeling completely lost. He had never been an analytical genius! What was happening? He couldn't figure it out!
Damn it! Anyway, he had saved some small red potions from killing monsters over the past few days for emergencies. He might as well use them now to keep himself alive. Let's try what he guessed!
This is an illusion, it's all an illusion! Ling Mo Xie hypnotized himself, swallowed hard, and forced himself not to think about the Vampire Bats flapping their wings and making terrifying sounds. Even the firewall beside him had disappeared. He kept telling himself that it was all just a mirage, no Bats, no Bats, he wouldn't be drained of blood.
Big White looked at Ling Mo Xie, who was sitting cross-legged with his eyes closed, ignoring the Bats biting him.
Under his self-hypnosis, Ling Mo Xie's expression gradually calmed down, as if he could no longer feel the bites of the Bats. The drop in his health bar suddenly stopped. When he opened his eyes, where was he? It was dark and murky in the passageway.
At that moment, he found himself sitting in a spacious hall!
Ling Mo Xie stood up and looked at Nan Jianjun, who was continuously swinging his sword in the hall. He also glanced at Big White, who was pacing back and forth in confusion. He recalled Big White into his pet space and approached Nan Jianjun, only to see him constantly waving his longsword, unable to get any closer. A frown appeared on Ling Mo Xie's face, and a hint of anxiety surfaced.
If Nan Jianjun couldn't escape this illusion, he would definitely die here! Because Ling Mo Xie noticed the misfortune status on his status bar; it seemed that any damage taken in this illusion was real. This was a true blend of reality and illusion that made it hard to distinguish between the two. In fact, Ling Mo Xie even began to doubt whether this hall was still part of the illusion!
This also showed how powerful the person who set up this ruin was; they could cause someone to unknowingly die within it without even realizing the cause of their death!
Ling Mo Xie didn't know that this illusion was one of the devices used to train Death Warriors back in the day!
Damn it! Ling Mo Xie cursed under his breath. Since this was an illusion formation, if he could destroy that formation, Nan Jianjun would be able to escape on his own!
Thus, he began to carefully examine the entire hall. The hall was circular with three dark passageways leading elsewhere; one was the passageway he and Nan Jianjun had come down from, while the other two led to unknown destinations. Concerned for Nan Jianjun's safety, Ling Mo Xie did not immediately go to investigate.
The hall was large, with a radius of about thirty feet. Directly in front of the passageway where he had descended stood a semicircular platform, which had six steps leading up to it. On top of the platform was an old rectangular table, covered in dust, with an incense burner and three unburned incense sticks of varying lengths that had been left there for who knows how long.
Ling Mo Xie glanced around at the smooth surfaces of the hall and thought to himself that if there were any mysteries here, they must be related to that platform!
With caution, Ling Mo Xie stepped forward toward the high platform. Surprisingly, he reached the semicircular platform without any issues. Perhaps this truly was a training ground for the Death Warriors, and that platform was where the instructors stood! Therefore, there were no formations or mechanisms present.
Ling Mo Xie examined the small incense burner on the table, unsure of what material it was made from. After all these years, aside from some dust, it looked as good as new. His imagination ran wild as he wondered if this was some kind of mechanism like those found in melodramatic television shows from his previous life.
Ling Mo Xie rolled up his sleeves and grasped the two ears on either side of the incense burner to turn it, but it wouldn’t budge. Despite its small size, it felt as heavy as a mountain. Ling Mo Xie was in the mid-stage of his cultivation, yet he couldn't even manage to turn it! Of course, one couldn't apply common logic to the Cultivation World; perhaps it wasn't that it was too heavy but rather that there was some other mystery at play!
