"Every time I think of you clinging to Master Song for dear life, it’s just so amusing," A-Qing laughed. "It's a pity you didn't get to see Master Song's reaction at that moment; it was truly spectacular!"
"Please, just forget about it," I couldn't help but sigh as I rubbed my face.
It was really embarrassing!
"By the way, what are you doing?" A-Qing asked, leaning on my back.
I pointed to a cluster of plants in front of us.
"I was wondering if this is edible..." Although it looked like a fruit, I couldn't tell what kind it actually was.
"What is this thing? It's pitch black... Wild berry?" A-Qing stared at it for a while, uncertain. "But I've never seen such dark berries before. Can they be eaten?" She wrinkled her nose. "I mean, do you really dare to eat something that grows in Potter's Field?"
"I don't know... Maybe it would be fine after purification?" Wild berries? I had no idea what they would taste like or if they could help restore spiritual energy.
In any case, I decided to give it a try. After all, it was better to ensure some food sources for peace of mind.
A-Qing jumped off my back and stood aside.
I reached out to touch the cluster of plants and softly began to chant the purification spell.
Before long, the plants that had appeared as if soaked in ink gradually turned back to their original vibrant green color. However, the fruits revealed a malnourished pale yellowish hue, far from the bright red I had imagined.
"Ah, can't eat these. What a pity," A-Qing said with a hint of disappointment as she looked at the unappetizing fruits.
"Mm..." I felt genuinely regretful about this.
Not being able to find a substitute made me anxious as I thought about the few remaining buns in my sleeve.
Although it was just a precaution, the fact that I couldn't starve to death yet still had to rely on food to restore my spiritual energy was truly a ridiculous setup!
Seeing my dejected expression, A-Qing patted my shoulder in a half-hearted attempt to comfort me. "Don't worry, even if this fruit isn't edible, Daoist Zhang and the others should bring something back for you."
Now, Song Lan occasionally descended the mountain to hunt at night near Yiling, while Xiao Xingchen accompanied him, hidden within the Frost Blossom.
However, Song Lan had initially hesitated about leaving me alone in Potter's Field. It wasn't until one day when a zombie appeared that I effortlessly dealt with it right in front of him that he reluctantly acknowledged my ability to protect myself.
"Always act within your means; never overexert yourself," he advised, still not entirely at ease before departing.
"Yes," I replied obediently, secretly relieved that the zombie that had appeared was just one. If there had been a horde, I would have surely ended up in a dire situation again.
Still, I had managed to survive on my own before; the solid proof was right before his eyes. Why couldn't he trust me? Such needless worry!
"I remember when Daoist Xiao Xingchen returned from night hunts, he would always bring me candies!" A-Qing reminisced with a sweet smile, recalling the delightful taste of those treats and unable to resist smacking her lips.
"What a pity; you can't eat anything now," I chuckled at her translucent figure.
"Ah~~ that's so unfair! It's all Xue Yang's fault!" A-Qing stomped her foot and pouted in frustration.

Having failed to find any food reserves, I could only drag my feet in disappointment toward the unfinished Guardian of the Mountain Stone Beast.
Regardless of the circumstances, there were still things that needed to be done.
"Gao!" Xuan Yi, who had been idly hanging around the half-finished statue, immediately ran over excitedly as soon as he saw me.
"By the way, is the name Xuan something this guy already had, or did you give it to him?" A-Qing suddenly asked.
"I named him because he is black."
"Oh, so we could actually call him Xiao Hay, right?" A-Qing squatted down and smiled as she patted Xuan's head.
"Gao?" Xuan looked at A-Qing with a confused expression.
"What was Xiao Hay doing just now? I didn't see you," A-Qing asked with a laugh.
Xuan was stunned for a while before responding, "Gao!"
"He just went on his usual patrol," I helped translate. "It seems like he isn't used to the name Xiao Hay and doesn't know how to react."
"But calling him Xiao Hay feels more approachable! He'll get used to it eventually, right? Xiao Hay."
"Ga..." Xuan seemed to freeze as if his brain had short-circuited.
"In that case, you should try to get used to it, Xuan," I said casually while picking up some scattered stones nearby and examining them closely.
"So, what should we call this one later?" A-Qing boldly sat down next to me, looking at the stone statue that was about seventy or eighty percent complete.
"Um... I don't know yet." I tilted my head in thought. "To be honest, I don't even know if this one will develop consciousness like Xuan."
Honestly, I've always thought that Xuan was a product of chance; after all, no one had ever seen a Guardian of the Mountain Stone Beast with self-awareness before...
"Gao?" (Huh? Is that not possible?) Xuan showed a disappointed expression.
"No, I mean I'm not sure. We'll only know the results once it's completed." So, this statue is essentially a test model.
"It's a pity I can't help..." A-Qing's translucent hand moved effortlessly through the stone, unable to touch it.
"That's alright. It's already pieced together quite well. If all goes smoothly, it should be finished in a day or two."
I focused on studying the stone while A-Qing quietly sat beside me, watching my work.
"How boring~~ Little Flower, aren't you going to hum a tune anymore?" she suddenly spoke up.
"What?" I was taken aback, not quite understanding what she meant.
"I thought the tune you hummed last time sounded pretty good, even though I couldn't understand the lyrics at all."
"Oh..." I recalled that when I was alone before, feeling the surrounding silence too oppressive, I would hum familiar anime songs to entertain myself. A few days ago, while A-Qing was helping me repair the statue, I had absentmindedly hummed a few lines, which she happened to hear.
"Sing! Sing! I've got nothing to do; I'm so bored~~" A-Qing urged.
"Um... if you don't mind, I don't really care..." After all, it was just a personal interest. Since she didn't mind her ears being tortured, I wouldn't hold back.
So, I randomly picked one of the songs I often used to pass the time and began to sing.
"Is this a song from another world? What is it about?" After finishing a tune, she asked curiously.
"Uh?" I was momentarily stunned, unsure how to respond. "It's something my master taught me. As for the content... it's probably various tales she recorded from her travels." In any case, when in doubt, just blame it on the system! "My master used to be a Bard and would often turn her experiences into songs."
"Oh! So it's like a storyteller? In other words, each song represents a story?" A-Qing's eyes lit up immediately. "Then do you know what these songs are about? I love listening to stories!"
"Stories, huh..." I pondered for a moment. The song I had just sung was from "Princess Mononoke." After simplifying the plot, I recounted it as a tale of gods and monsters, explaining how humans clashed with enormous ancient beasts over survival. The humans chose to slay the Mountain Beast God, leading to the death of the forests. Eventually, they returned the god's head to seek forgiveness, and in the end, the forests were reborn.
Although my retelling was a bit disjointed, A-Qing listened with rapt attention.
"Hmm... What forest is this? Are there really that many giant wild boars? Those meats should last a long time, right?"
"It's just a legend. Most legends are fabricated, so there's no need to take them too seriously." Seeing her incredulous expression made me chuckle. How did I end up leading her to think only about food?
"Are there other stories? What about that last song? What was it about?"
"Well... I don't know many stories. If I told you everything at once, you wouldn't have anything left to hear later. So I can only tell you one at a time." I pretended to be mysterious on purpose.
Though I had read many novels and watched numerous anime, not every work was suitable for storytelling. I needed some time to think about how to spin my tales!
"Okay... fine," A-Qing reluctantly accepted. "So, do you understand what those songs are singing about?"
"No, I don't understand. I'm just repeating what I've heard from my master. As for the songs, I simply hum them because I like them."
That was true; in the past, when I listened to my favorite anime songs, I would hum along without knowing what I was actually singing.
Now, all those memories remained as mere echoes of the past, which somehow evoked a sense of nostalgia…
