The woman nodded and began to recount her story.
It turned out that she and her daughter had gone out for a walk after dinner and had forgotten to take their keys. They had no choice but to go to her husband, who was drinking at a bar nearby, to get them. Her husband was drinking with two colleagues from work at a bar close to their community.
When they arrived to get the keys, the two colleagues were persuading her husband to drink more, but he was struggling with the alcohol and didn't want to drink. Her daughter, who enjoyed alcohol more, snatched the cup and willingly drank it for him. The two colleagues seemed to want to stop her but were too late.
The woman recognized her husband's colleagues and asked them to go easy on him and not let him drink too much. She also reminded her husband to come home early. After that, she and her daughter left the bar and headed home.
However, just a few steps later, her daughter collapsed...
The onlookers who had gathered lost interest upon hearing this and began to disperse.
"The problem lies in the drink your daughter had!" Jiang Jun concluded. He realized that the girl had consumed alcohol laced with a deadly substance, which caused her condition.
That night, if Master Wan had taken action after drinking half a cup of that alcohol, Jiang Jun could have prevented him from being paralyzed. But someone like Master Wan deserved his fate, so Jiang Jun would not intervene.
"I didn't notice anything wrong with that drink! But I really appreciate your help," the girl said as she fully regained her composure.
"Auntie, what does your husband do? What is his relationship with those two colleagues?" Jiang Jun asked, as he felt it inappropriate to explain about the drink and wanted to understand more about the victim's identity to see if it was related to the Wan's Group.
"My husband is a financial manager at a large company. He was drinking with their General Manager's Assistant and Vice Financial Manager today."
Just as Jiang Jun was about to ask which company it was, a voice interrupted him.
"Qiu Yan, Tingting, why haven't you two gone back yet?" It was Manager Liu from the Finance Department, whom Jiang Jun had encountered last time when he was asking Wan Haoyu for an address. Qiu Yan and Tingting were likely the names of this mother-daughter pair.
"It's you! What are you doing here?" Manager Liu exclaimed upon spotting Jiang Jun, suddenly panicking. The other two who came out with him were even more anxious and tried to leave without saying anything.
"Stop!" Jiang Jun shouted. These two must be the General Manager's Assistant and Vice Financial Manager that Qiu Yan mentioned. Although Jiang Jun did not know them personally, they must have recognized him.
Though they were frightened, they forced themselves to remain calm and did not dare leave. When they saw that Manager Liu's daughter was safe, they felt very puzzled!
"Manager Liu, let your wife explain what happened just now!"
Qiu Yan recounted what had occurred earlier. Manager Liu was naturally very confused, while the General Manager's Assistant and Vice Financial Manager became even more alarmed and fearful of Jiang Jun's capabilities!
"Young man, thank you for saving my daughter! Can you tell me what caused her condition?" Manager Liu said respectfully. He did not know Jiang Jun's exact identity but sensed that he was powerful and seemed to have a conflict with Master Wan.
"Manager Liu, when your daughter came to get the keys from you, did she drink a cup of alcohol for you? The reason lies in that drink."
Huh? He knew this reason too; the General Manager's Assistant and Vice Financial Manager were left dumbfounded!
"Impossible, right? I've had several glasses of that wine, and I'm fine!" Manager Liu clearly thought Jiang Jun's statement was unreasonable.
"I'm not saying the wine is problematic; I'm just saying that one glass of wine is. Manager Liu, did you leave your seat before drinking that glass?"
Manager Liu thought for a moment and nodded. "Yes, I went to the bathroom. When I returned to the private room, the mother and daughter had just arrived."
"Exactly. When you left the private room, they slipped something into your drink!" Jiang Jun pointed at the General Manager's Assistant and the Vice Financial Manager.
"Impossible! They are both colleagues I have a good relationship with; how could they drug me?" Manager Liu shook his head in disbelief.
The General Manager's Assistant and the Vice Financial Manager quickly denied it. "Young man, you can't say such things; don't sow discord among our colleagues!"
Jiang Jun sneered, "Am I making this up? If that glass of wine was fine, how could Manager Liu's daughter suddenly faint? Luckily I passed by here; otherwise, she would have died without knowing why!"
Manager Liu's family felt a wave of fear! If that glass of wine was indeed problematic, it was aimed at them.
Although the General Manager's Assistant and the Vice Financial Manager knew Jiang Jun was right, they were certain they couldn't provide evidence, so they firmly denied it.
Jiang Jun understood their thoughts and decided to take a tougher approach. He suddenly stepped forward, grabbing the hands of the General Manager's Assistant and the Vice Financial Manager with one hand each and twisting them slightly!
"Ah! Ouch..." The two immediately broke out in cold sweat from the pain.
"Are you going to tell the truth? If not, your hands will be broken!"
"I'll talk!" The two quickly begged for mercy.
Jiang Jun released his grip. "Speak quickly!"
"We slipped a pill into Manager Liu's glass while he was away. This pill can cause someone to suddenly die as if from a heart attack!" The General Manager's Assistant spoke first.
"Why?" Manager Liu found it hard to believe upon hearing this.
"It was arranged by Master Wan! He wanted us to harm you so that I could be promoted to manager. Because last time you told this hero Master Wan's address!" The Vice Financial Manager added the reason.
"Damn! Bastard!" Manager Liu angrily slapped his assistant.
Just as he was about to continue hitting him, Jiang Jun stopped him. "Manager Liu, hitting him won't solve the problem!"
"What should we do then? Benefactor!" Manager Liu was extremely grateful to Jiang Jun! If he hadn't passed by here, his daughter would have lost her life.
Jiang Jun stared at the General Manager's Assistant and the Vice Financial Manager. "What are you two planning to do? Will you follow my arrangements or go to jail?"
"We... will listen to the hero!" The two knew they had no choice.
"Manager Liu, your home is nearby, right? Let's go to your place to talk!"
Upon arriving at Manager Liu's house, they introduced themselves. Manager Liu was named Liu Tengfei, the General Manager's Assistant was Zhang Lianmin, and the Vice Financial Manager was Zheng Erneng.
Qiu Yan and Tingting, mother and daughter, were not involved in what was being discussed, so Jiang Jun suggested going to the study.
"Zhang, Zheng, have you thought about how to respond to Master Wan tomorrow?" Once in the study, Jiang Jun got straight to the point.
Both shook their heads.
"It's simple. Just say that the drug took effect late, and Manager Liu was already tipsy; he couldn't hold his cup steady and spilled the drink!"
They nodded in agreement.
"Deceiving him is just a temporary measure. Wan Haoyu will definitely continue to pressure you to harm Manager Liu. So I hope you can join me in bringing down that old man Wan Haoyu. Are you willing?"
Zhang Lianmin and Zheng Erneng looked hesitant; they seemed unwilling but didn't dare to say so.
