Leaving Villa Area, Qiu Hai's car drove along the tree-lined avenue, but instead of heading straight to the towering buildings of HK, it took the exit ramp directly to Wang Shaowu Law Firm.
He didn't go upstairs but called Wang Shaowu from the parking lot, saying, "I've arrived!"
When he learned that Qiu Hai was waiting in the parking lot, he chuckled softly, "You're in the parking lot; don't you know that the incident that caused Autumn Wind's accident happened right there?"
Qiu Hai smiled lightly and did not engage in that topic, reiterating, "I have a meeting in HK and only have ten minutes!" He then hung up the phone.
Wang Shaowu arrived at the parking lot ten minutes after Qiu Hai hung up. Among the many vehicles, he immediately spotted Qiu Hai's limited edition car. He opened the car door, sat beside Qiu Hai, and handed him a light blue document bag. "This is the information from HK during your absence..." Just as Qiu Hai finished looking through it, Wang Shaowu pulled out a yellow kraft paper folder. "This contains all the information on Huang Zihe!"
As Qiu Hai took it, he noticed Wang Shaowu was still busy with his briefcase, his eyes narrowed into a slit. "What? Do you have more in there?"
Wang Shaowu smiled lightly and pulled out two CDs from his briefcase. "These are the investigations into your simultaneous disasters!"
Indeed, Wang Shaowu referred to "simultaneous disasters." Hearing this peculiar phrase made a smile appear on Qiu Hai's stern face. "So it really is two..." He took the CDs and tucked them into his pocket.
With a slight smile, he said, "Thank you, Wu Ge!"
However, Wang Shaowu's smile gradually faded until it turned into a look of dejection. He coughed lightly and stared at Qiu Hai with an unfamiliar expression. "How long do you plan to keep this up? Are you going to continue deceiving them?"
How long? Qiu Hai murmured Wang Shaowu's words to himself; he would pretend for as long as he could!
Seeing that Qiu Hai remained silent, Wang Shaowu pressed on, "I heard you're dating Autumn Wind now? What you're doing..."
A chill emanated from behind Qiu Hai as a low voice echoed in the car. "I know what I'm doing; Wu Ge need not worry..."
"Alright, just don't let Autumn Wind get hurt this time..." Wang Shaowu said before opening the car door and striding away.
Qiu Hai watched Wang Shaowu's back, standing still for a while. He had just made sure not to upset Autumn Wind this time; could it be that he...
Autumn Wind took Leo to his room, which was at the end of the villa, directly opposite Liu Jian's house.
It was Autumn Wind's first time entering this room. Considering that all the villas were generally similar in design, she curiously walked to the window. Was Qiu Hai standing in this spot, looking at her?
Leo's luggage was placed in the corner. Autumn Wind kicked one of the larger suitcases with her foot and asked, "Did you bring any gifts for them?" Her voice carried a hint of reproach.
"Yes, I bought a toy for Oke, but I forgot it at the convenience store!" Leo moved around the room, carefully examining each item. He said this half-jokingly, but his tone was quite sincere.
Autumn Wind wasn't sure whether to scold him and let out a long sigh. "What about the fish?"
With his hands in his pockets, Leo jumped in front of Autumn Wind like a robot, his glass-like eyes fixed on her as he uttered one word: "Money!"
A frustrated glare shot at Leo's face. "Do you really think money is almighty?"
But as soon as the words left her mouth, Autumn Wind regretted it. In the emotional disconnect between fish and Leo, money truly was the only common denominator.
"Well, you should rest for a bit. We'll have dinner together tonight!" Autumn Wind said as she walked out of Leo's room.
Leo's cheerful voice came from behind her. "Have you ever thought that this Kris might be Qiu Mowen after plastic surgery? Don't you think they really look alike?"
"Shut up!" Autumn Wind snapped angrily at Leo. "If you bring this up again, I'll tear you apart!"
Autumn Wind didn't lack similar thoughts to Leo's, but she truly hoped that it wasn't Qiu Mowen; she really didn't want to be bound by any more lunacy or guilt.
"Alright, I'm going out to check on the fish!" Suppressing her emotions, Autumn Wind left the room.
Ahe walked over and stood in front of Autumn Wind, bowing deeply.
"Ahe, what is this..." Autumn Wind looked at Ahe in confusion.
"Sister, I want to take a few days off. I really, really..." Her voice choked a bit, "I really don't have the courage to face him..." She paused, glancing towards Leo's room, "I really don't have the courage to face him..."
"Okay! You take a few days off. After he leaves, I'll call you!" Autumn Wind naturally understood how draining such a situation could be. The thought of her beloved gazing affectionately at someone else was enough to kill any semblance of peace.
Ahe bowed deeply again, "Thank you, Sister!" With that, she turned to leave but was gently called back by Autumn Wind, "Hey, wait a moment!"
Autumn Wind approached Ahe, standing an arm's length away, and gestured for Ahe to lean in. She whispered a few words into Ahe's ear.
Ahe's eyes widened slowly, her brow furrowed, and her mouth slightly agape, clearly startled. "Sister? Is that... okay?"
Autumn Wind smiled lightly, "Why not? Just do as I say. If anything happens, I'll take the blame. Are you afraid she can do anything to me?"
Ahe looked at Autumn Wind gratefully and bowed deeply again. "Sister, I truly have no way to repay you!"
With a proud smile, Autumn Wind waved her hand lightly to signal Ahe to leave before stepping into the fish room. Oke lay peacefully asleep in the crib while Fish sat at the head of the bed like a wooden doll, occasionally sighing or smiling softly.
Gently nudging Fish, Autumn Wind leaned in and whispered, "Hey, are you possessed?"
Fish was startled awake by the sudden voice near her ear and jumped up from the bed. Upon seeing Autumn Wind in front of her, she exclaimed loudly, "You're going to scare me to death!" Her voice was so loud that it startled Oke awake; he opened his mouth as if about to cry. Fish quickly reached out and gently patted him until he fell back into slumber.
Autumn Wind watched Fish's distracted expression with helplessness. She wanted to say something comforting but couldn't bring herself to do it. Picking up a magazine from Fish's bedside, she pretended to browse through it while her mind raced to find a topic that could lead to Leo without triggering any negative emotions in Fish.
The magazine cover opened, and before Autumn Wind could find a topic to guide the conversation, she was already furious. The editorial team had actually put together an issue titled "The Men of the Heiresses," featuring a male model who was the very young man she had been caught in bed with alongside Qiu Ruolan.
Of course, Yao Guanghao was not the real reason for her anger; what truly infuriated Autumn Wind was that every outfit worn by Yao Guanghao in the magazine was based on the attire of her male companions each time she appeared on the cover: Yao Guanghao, Liu Jian, Qiu Mowen, Huang Zihe, and Qiu Hai.
It was more about the last line of the article: "Do you want to be the prince who becomes a princess? The handsome men dance..."
Her fingers dug into the thin paper, quickly creating countless holes as she ground her teeth, wishing she could devour it all in one bite.
"Hey, what are you doing! That's my magazine!" Fish pulled the magazine from Autumn Wind's hands, her tone filled with resentment as she muttered, "What are you even talking about..." Before she could finish her sentence, Fish flipped to the page that Autumn Wind had torn, and immediately understood.
Instead of comforting Autumn Wind, she burst out laughing.
Hearing Fish's laughter, Autumn Wind paused, her mood suddenly lightening as she joined in Fish's laughter, "Hahaha, hahaha..."
Fish continued to laugh while playfully hitting Autumn Wind, seemingly trying to vent all her emotions.
Their laughter finally woke Oke up. He pursed his lips and began to cry. Fish quickly picked him up from the crib, swaying her body gently while whispering soothing words, yet she couldn't stop laughing.
The child's tender cries mixed with the uncontrollable laughter of the two women created a bittersweet atmosphere for Ahe, who stood outside the door and hadn’t left yet.
Oke fell asleep again amidst his cries. Watching Fish place him back in the crib, Autumn Wind gradually stopped laughing. She gently pulled Fish back to the head of the bed and finally mustered the courage to talk about Leo.
She didn't beat around the bush; she got straight to the point. "Do you think there’s still hope for you and him?"
Fish's previously smiling face suddenly darkened. She lowered her head and avoided eye contact with Autumn Wind. All her hopes had crumbled at the moment Leo withdrew his arm in the courtyard; he wouldn’t even pretend to be a couple with her. How could that not chill Fish's heart?
In the mirror at the head of the bed, Fish saw her tear-streaked face beneath her short hair—wronged, sad, heartbroken, unwilling—all her sorrow surged forth. She tried to control her tears, clenching her fists and gripping the bedsheet tightly, but tears still fell like rain.
She didn't want Autumn Wind to think she was weak. She wiped away the tears that had spilled over and turned to Autumn Wind. "Not seeing hope doesn't mean there is no hope!"
Fish pretended to be relaxed, which made Autumn Wind feel heartbroken. She even thought it was her fault that Fish was in this situation. If she had told Fish about Leo's principles regarding relationships earlier, perhaps Fish wouldn't have fallen so deeply.
But Autumn Wind couldn't help but feel confused. When Leo was dating Fish, was it a facade or did he not yet understand his own orientation? During their intimate moments, was he truly infatuated or was it some sort of compensation for Fish?
One thing Autumn Wind was certain of, though, was that Leo would absolutely never be with Fish. Setting aside the fact that he liked men, even if he started liking women, ina from Los Angeles Chinatown had already become his legal wife.
There was no way for Fish!
Autumn Wind reached out to touch Fish's hair, which was shorter than a man's, and said softly, "Let yourself go; don't make things difficult for yourself!"
Fish stubbornly lifted her head. "No, I firmly believe he will come back. We have a child, we have Oke, and he likes Oke so much!"
"Wake up! This is absolutely impossible!" Autumn Wind wanted to slap Fish awake. Her hand rose into the air but then slowly fell back down. Fish's bright eyes made her feel a bit awed.
"Loving someone who doesn't love you is like waiting for a ship at the airport. Don't blame others for disappointing you; blame yourself for having too high expectations." With that, Autumn Wind stood up and left Fish's room.
