In the living room, Fish had already packed all her belongings into her own room. Sister Liu gently rocked Oke and ran over to Autumn Wind, whispering to her that Fish would probably be back very late. Autumn Wind reached out to touch Oke's face and instructed Sister Liu to give him a bath while she quietly sat on the sofa watching TV.
Just as she was engrossed in the show, her phone rang. Sliding it open, she saw it was Qiu Hai. Before Autumn Wind could say anything, Qiu Hai spoke up, "Do you often stand on the balcony, gazing at me and other women being affectionate?"
What should have been an embarrassing statement sounded so light coming from Qiu Hai's mouth.
If it weren't for the phone call, Autumn Wind would have liked to spit at his face. She had nothing to say and hung up the phone directly.
He called again, and she hung up again. After repeating this several times, Autumn Wind got annoyed. She stood up from the sofa, intending to find Qiu Hai and confront him.
Just as she reached the door, her phone rang again. Autumn Wind answered angrily, "Are you done yet?" With her hands on her hips, she shouted into the receiver. However, it wasn't Qiu Hai's voice on the other end but a gentle, deep female voice.
Autumn Wind was taken aback and listened carefully; the voice belonged to Qiu Feng, whom she hadn't contacted in a long time!
"Jing... Sister Zhao?" Autumn Wind felt embarrassed about her earlier outburst. She pinched her earlobe and stammered, "You... how come you have time to call me?"
Qiu Feng's cheerful laughter came through the receiver, sounding like she was in a good mood. "I'm not busy; it's you who are busy!"
This made Autumn Wind feel even more awkward. Before she could respond, Qiu Feng continued, "Where are you living now? I'll come find you!"
Autumn Wind hesitated for a moment before mumbling her address. After thinking for a moment, she added, "Do you have something to do? Otherwise, I can come find you!"
"No need! I can find it myself! Alright then, see you soon!" Qiu Feng said quickly before hanging up abruptly.
Autumn Wind was left in shock, unable to understand Qiu Feng's abrupt call. With a long sigh and no mood to continue watching TV, she got up and headed upstairs. Just as she stepped onto the stairs, Fish pushed the door open and walked in.
Autumn Wind glanced at her and immediately knew she was in a bad mood. Looking behind her, Ahe stood there with her head down.
"You’re back?" Autumn Wind greeted.
"Yeah!" Fish replied, heading straight to Autumn Wind's side. "Let’s go upstairs, I need to talk to you!" She grabbed Autumn Wind's arm and pulled her up forcefully.
Autumn Wind looked puzzled but followed Fish's strength upstairs. Of course, she didn’t forget to glance at Ahe, who looked as pale as death.
"Hey, what happened to you guys?" As soon as they entered the room, Autumn Wind asked Fish, still shaken by Ahe's frightening appearance.
Fish waved her hand dismissively. A hint of uncontrollable laughter appeared on her rosy face. "Don’t mind her! What’s wrong with your phone?!" She pointed at the phone in Autumn Wind's hand.
"What’s wrong?" Autumn Wind looked down at Fish, confused.
Fish blinked her eyes, looking relaxed, and said slowly, "Just now, Leo called me?"
Leo. Autumn Wind was taken aback, staring at Fish in disbelief. "Are you sure? It was Leo?"
Fish nodded, her eyes sparkling with hope. "Even though he called me because he couldn’t get through to you! But that doesn’t matter; what matters is that he talked to me?"
"Talked? What do you mean? Haven't you two been talking all along?" Fish's words left Autumn Wind puzzled.
Shrugging her shoulders in a nonchalant manner, Fish said, "Okay, I won’t hide it from you. I went to America; although I stayed at his house, I’ve never actually met him..."
What? Autumn Wind could hardly believe what Fish was saying. "You mean you lived with Ina while in America?" She frowned and shook Fish's shoulders, but saw that Fish looked excited. Autumn Wind conceded defeat. "Alright, your life is indeed more exciting than mine!"
The hand slid down from the shoulder as Autumn Wind picked up the phone. In the call log, the number she had just blocked indeed showed Leo's name. She didn't expect her earlier decision would make Yu so happy.
"Alright, remember to call him back! I'm going to take a shower!" Yu gathered her hair and rushed toward the door.
"Wait a minute!" Autumn Wind's figure appeared behind her. A bit puzzled, Yu turned to look at Autumn Wind and licked her lips. "Um, Sister Zhao is coming to see me tomorrow. I want to give Phoebe a gift; can you help me choose? Let Uncle Liu go buy it early tomorrow!"
Qiu Feng? The excitement on Yu's face slowly faded. If Autumn Wind wasn't helping with Phoebe's gift, she would have likely bolted out the door immediately. Tilting her head and thinking for a moment, she nodded and agreed to the request.
As soon as Yu went back to her room, Autumn Wind's phone rang. Due to her earlier mistake, Autumn Wind swiped open her phone and looked closely; it was an unfamiliar number. After staring for a moment, she slowly swiped to answer.
"Hello!" Cautiously, she listened intently to the voice on the other end.
"Oh oh oh, hahahaha, ah oh..." Various noisy sounds came through, mixed with wailing cries of a baby. Autumn Wind's heart sank, and her hands began to tremble uncontrollably. "Who... who are you?"
"Why aren't you making a move? Why aren't you making a move!" It was that aged voice again, but this time it carried a hint of weeping and trembling. "If you don't make a move soon, I will kill you, kill you, dead..."
"Who are you?!" Autumn Wind shouted into the receiver.
"Beep beep beep!" The other party hung up, leaving Autumn Wind with the system's prompt tone.
If she lay on the bed now, her back would already be soaked with sweat, her lips dry from tension. She licked them slightly to moisten them but felt her heart pounding fiercely.
What did that mean just now? With vacant eyes, she stared blankly into the distance. Outside was pitch black, with flickering lights occasionally appearing like eyes hanging in the window. Fearful, she shrank under the covers, trembling.
"Woo woo," the phone rang again. She peeked at the flashing screen with one eye and only mustered enough courage to reach out and answer when the ringing was about to end. "Hello..."
"Hello, my dearest Autumn Wind!" Leo's voice came through the phone, clean, bright, and filled with tenderness. This familiar way of speaking made Autumn Wind burst into tears instantly.
"Leo. It's you! Boohoo..." Autumn Wind tightly clutched the corner of the blanket, crying out loud.
"Oh dear, don't be so emotional!" Leo, not understanding what was happening, joked, "Don't tell me you miss me this much!"
After a while, Autumn Wind managed to stop crying, wiping her tears with the blanket. She choked out, "I heard from Yu. Are you coming back soon? Is it just you?" Despite her sobs, the last part of her sentence emphasized her curiosity—first it was Jak, then it was Ina; who would it be this time?
Leo heard that Autumn Wind had regained her composure and sighed deeply, stopping his laughter. "Yes, it's just me! I've missed you and want to come back to see you!" His tone was serious but still carried a hint of laughter.
Autumn Wind touched her tears and smiled slightly. "I don't believe you... Hey, when are you coming back? I'll arrange for someone to pick you up!"
"Pick me up..." Leo paused, recalling the changes in Autumn Wind's situation during this time. "Alright, early next month..."
Thinking of Qiu Mowen's passing suddenly made his voice sad.
He sniffed and controlled his emotions. "By the way, thank you for helping me take care of Oke! I've heard from Yu!"
Upon hearing this from Leo, Autumn Wind's emotions surged again, instantly pushing aside the earlier somber tone. "How can you still bring up that mother and son?" Even though Yu had never spoken ill of Leo, Autumn Wind couldn't allow herself to remain indifferent about this matter.
"I'll see how you face Oke when he grows up!" Compared to Yu, Autumn Wind felt more heartbroken for Oke. Her voice was loud enough that Leo on the other end pulled the phone slightly away and spoke gently, "I feel bad too..."
He stopped mid-sentence as Autumn Wind noticed sounds of people moving around Leo. "Are there people around you?"
"Um, well..." Leo's tone became a bit hesitant.
Autumn Wind sniffed and said earnestly, "I have no right to interfere with your circle of friends, but I really hope you don't leave with any regrets..." After a pause, a pain began to throb at his temples. He rubbed it lightly and continued, "Since I was young, apart from him, you have been by my side. I really don't want anything to happen to you two..."
"It won't!" Leo replied, as the surrounding sounds became clearer. Autumn Wind recognized it was a man's low panting voice.
"Don't let Oke really be without a father..." Autumn Wind feared hearing something unbearable and hurriedly hung up the phone.
Autumn Wind's last words pierced Leo's heart. He lowered his head, thought for a moment, then raised it again and pushed away the man who was about to lean against his chest. "Sorry!" He stood up, put on his clothes, and walked out of the room.
The next morning, when Autumn Wind went downstairs for breakfast, Fish had already gone to work. On the living room table lay three beautifully packaged boxes.
Oke was playing with Transformers on the floor, jumping around mischievously, which made Autumn Wind very happy. Sister Liu helped Autumn Wind serve rice. Autumn Wind gestured to go to the kitchen and pointed at Oke, indicating for Sister Liu to take good care of him.
After serving the rice, Autumn Wind sat down at the dining table. When Oke saw Autumn Wind's mouth moving, he happily ran over and said, "Auntie..." but quickly corrected himself, shouting, "Auntie, Auntie... I want to eat! Oke wants to eat too!"
Hearing Oke call her "Auntie," Autumn Wind was taken aback but quickly realized this must be something Fish prepared for Leo's return.
Oke had already seated himself on a nearby stool, blinking his eyes at Autumn Wind. She smiled lightly and picked up a slice of ham to feed him. Playfully throwing his toy on the ground, he swallowed the ham in one bite. His adorable appearance made Autumn Wind burst into laughter.
"Sister Liu, what are those things?" Autumn Wind nodded towards the boxes.
"They're from Sister Jiang. She asked Old Liu to buy them early this morning; it's something she wants to give away..." Sister Liu stood behind the chair with her head lowered. Her eyes were always on Oke, only looking at Autumn Wind when speaking to her before turning back to Oke.
The look in Sister Liu's eyes was filled with affection, much like how a grandmother looks at her grandchild.
Autumn Wind smiled slightly and fed another bite of rice to Oke. She looked up at Sister Liu, saying, "You've worked hard during this time; I'll pay you double!"
"No, no need, Sister, I also really like Oke..." Sister Liu quickly said, her eyes suddenly showing a hint of something unusual.
"What's wrong?" Autumn Wind noticed and asked.
Sister Liu met Autumn Wind's gaze and sighed, "Sister, I've always had a question, I don't know..."
Sister Liu's words were directly interrupted by Autumn Wind. "Come on!" She looked sincerely at Sister Liu.
"It's just that I've never seen Oke's dad!" Sister Liu finished speaking, pressed her lips tightly together, bit her lip, and looked up at Autumn Wind, noticing a slight change in her expression. She immediately changed her tone, "No, I shouldn't have asked that!"
"It's okay, he'll be here in a few days. When he comes, you must help Oke vent his anger!" Autumn Wind forced a smile on her face. She gently patted Oke's head and said, "When your dad arrives, Oke, you must bite him hard!"
Even while smiling, her heart was filled with bitterness.
Ahe followed behind Awei and entered through the back door of the villa. Hearing Autumn Wind's words, her face turned ashen.
