Autumn Wind stood at the door, feeling lost as the heat of her emotions was suddenly blown cold by the wind. The flowers in her hand looked as if they had already been trampled after Li Gu's several abrupt stops. A couple passed by Autumn Wind, their intimate gestures reflecting a hint of mockery in their eyes, and Autumn Wind guessed she must look quite disheveled right now.
After more than ten minutes, Li Gu slowly walked out from the car, his expression blank. He moved heavily and stiffly, resembling a zombie; his once rosy face seemed to have drained of color in an instant.
Seeing him so dejected, Autumn Wind held her breath and dared not make a sound.
However, he showed no inclination to speak to Autumn Wind, starting the car directly. As the vehicle pulled away, Autumn Wind nimbly jumped onto her motorcycle.
Like a ghost, Li Gu turned Autumn Wind's many expectations for Christmas into mere bubbles. But what surprised Autumn Wind even more was that after the bubbles disappeared, a devil appeared before her.
Autumn Wind and Li Gu returned home one after the other; he went straight to his room without saying a word.
Autumn Wind vaguely sensed something was off. She numbly tossed the flowers onto the dining table and began mechanically washing dishes.
This is how Christmas passed.
If two such lonely individuals lived under one roof, there would be many reasons for things to happen, yet nothing did. The only explanation for this situation was that both of them harbored feelings for someone else in their hearts.
This reason was quickly confirmed when Autumn Wind woke up for the second time.
She had not waited for Li Gu to call her for breakfast and finally, as the clock approached nine o'clock, she could no longer hold back and walked out of her room. Overnight, the combination of carnations and roses on the dining table had wilted and turned yellow due to the high temperature in the room.
Li Gu's door was tightly shut, with faint sounds drifting through the cracks. As Autumn Wind reached out to knock, those faint sounds suddenly transformed into a woman's moans.
The moans made Autumn Wind blush deeply, like a slap covered in chili sauce hitting her face hard. Momentarily stunned, she turned around and saw a red suitcase standing in the middle of the living room. As she approached it slowly, she noticed her owner's name—Shaolan—stuck prominently on it, which was also the source of the moans.
An extremely strange and terrifying feeling immediately enveloped Autumn Wind, creeping towards her like a fog; every hair on her body stood on end.
Ultimately, just before suffocating from fear, Autumn Wind ran out of the house wrapped in tenderness. The security door slammed loudly behind her with a "bang," making contact with the door frame intimately. This drew extreme dissatisfaction from an elderly woman downstairs who shouted loudly for someone to come out for criticism and education. By this time, Autumn Wind had already darted to where the dried-up Virginia Creeper clung to the wall.
There was no heating in the copy shop; Li Gu had brought two panda-shaped heaters. Autumn Wind vaguely felt that Li Gu would not come to work today, so she took the heater originally placed at his spot and put it under her feet. However, winter suddenly turned fierce at that moment; she felt no warmth at all.
Imagining possible scenarios when meeting Shaolan, Autumn Wind began browsing larger websites incessantly. To her astonishment, all news related to Shaolan's scandalous photos had completely vanished; even posts in forums had been deleted entirely.
Autumn Wind clicked the mouse furiously but couldn't find what she hoped to see. Feeling a bit frustrated, she rested her head on the desk. However, when she lifted her gaze to the screen, her frustration completely overflowed, as the page displayed was none other than Qiu Ruolan's homepage.
A rush of emotions surged within her: tenderness, longing, confusion, and nostalgia. Autumn Wind had never missed Qiu Ruolan as much as she did at that moment. Staring at Qiu Ruolan's photo, she was incredulously brought to tears.
Someone pushed the door open. He wore a black top hat and appeared quite tall, accompanied by a chilling aura that could cut through one's throat. Afraid of being seen with tears in her eyes, Autumn Wind searched for something to wipe them away while greeting the guest, "Do you need to print or copy?"
The man said nothing but handed Autumn Wind a piece of paper. The first line boldly read "Missing Person Notice." Autumn Wind glanced at the photo on the left side and felt as if struck by a wave of emotion; her eyes quickly reddened again, and she couldn't help but lean over the computer and sob.
A voice worth crying over echoed in her ears, as if coming from a silent place in the distant universe: "Long time no see!"
Tears filled Autumn Wind's eyes, blurring her vision. A name flashed like lightning in her mind. She stood up, gripping the edge of the desk tightly, trying to take a deep breath but feeling as if a boulder was pressing down on her chest.
After about five minutes, Autumn Wind finally stopped crying and looked up at the man before her with a hint of grievance, unable to suppress the wild thoughts racing through her mind.
His brow was high and prominent, making his gaze even deeper; his straight nose gave his features a striking three-dimensional quality.
The intensity of his stare made it hard for her to breathe!
It was him—indeed it was Qiu Mowen.
In the ensuing long silence, Autumn Wind and Qiu Mowen locked eyes. His face was filled with rationality, devoid of any expression. Finally, he turned his face toward the screen and saw Qiu Ruolan's photo. His Adam's apple bobbed as he spoke in a deep voice, "You still care about her?"
"No!" Autumn Wind denied while frantically clicking the mouse. She nervously scanned his face, hoping to read joy and panic similar to her own from his expression.
At that moment, a familiar ringtone sounded from outside. Two seconds later, Li Gu walked in while on the phone, followed closely by Shaolan, who was still dressed provocatively.
Autumn Wind and Qiu Mowen almost simultaneously looked at Li Gu, but when Autumn Wind clearly saw Shaolan, she instinctively turned her head away. She truly wasn't prepared to face Shaolan again.
Fear and shock overwhelmed her; she couldn't believe that she would encounter Shaolan again—and that Qiu Mowen would be present too.
She wished everything would just stop right there.
Autumn Wind saw Shaolan's ever-changing face in the mirror on the table.
Shaolan was momentarily stunned; that was her reaction upon seeing Autumn Wind. She certainly did not expect Autumn Wind to appear in Li Gu's copy shop. Shaolan obviously sighed, slightly relaxed, and turned her face towards Qiu Mowen. However, her pupils suddenly dilated as if she had seen a monster, but this fear lasted less than two seconds before her gaze immediately filled with tenderness, and her body leaned slightly closer to Qiu Mowen.
Autumn Wind quickly sensed that there was something between Shaolan and Qiu Mowen.
Before her, Shaolan was wearing a long sweater dress, with flesh-colored leggings underneath. The current weather in Jinan was much colder than last month's Hangzhou, and this biting chill forced her to adopt a "covertly sexy" style. The roses on her left were still blooming seductively, and her lips, painted a deep red, seemed ready to swallow Autumn Wind whole in an instant.
At that moment, Autumn Wind really wanted Qiu Mowen to take her away from here.
Finally, Li Gu hung up the phone, his mouth twitching involuntarily while maintaining a facade of calm. He looked at Qiu Mowen, who was standing nearby, and asked, "What happened?"
Autumn Wind had never known her mind could work so quickly; she casually found a reason: "This gentleman wants to print in color! It seems we can't do that here!"
Li Gu responded with an "Oh," and said nothing more. Qiu Mowen shrugged and made a cooperative expression of helplessness. He had no words and silently left the copy shop.
The cold wind once again seeped through the door crack. From the waist down, Autumn Wind felt as if she had lost all sensation, staring at Qiu Mowen's departing figure. Until Qiu Mowen completely disappeared from sight, Autumn Wind did not dare turn around to face Shaolan.
