Autumn Wind immediately sensed that Shaolan was very angry, so she dared not speak. She quickly changed into slippers, moved to the table, bent down to fill the kettle with water, and then plugged it in. The kettle immediately made a heating sound, and during the time it took for the water to boil, Shaolan kept making phone calls.
A minute later, the water boiled, and Autumn Wind quickly poured a cup and respectfully brought it to Shaolan. However, Shaolan didn't even glance at it; she bent down to put on her shoes, then picked up her down jacket, grabbed her bag, swayed her hips, and walked towards the door: "Keep it for yourself!"
What an elusive fairy she was! After she left, Autumn Wind didn't hold back; she used the water to make a bowl of noodles, ate it, and then curled up in bed to go online. Autumn Wind left a message for Qiu Feng: Your darling has become more beautiful again.
But Qiu Feng seemed to be offline; after a long time with no response, Autumn Wind's app notified her: Hey, get on SN!
After a while, Qiu Feng finally replied: Can't do it, Yusha is sick!
It was truly sad when one's enthusiasm went unanswered. Autumn Wind didn't actually follow many people; besides Qiu Feng and Qiu Ruolan, there were just a few newly acquainted colleagues. She slowly scrolled through the pages but found that their updates were almost identical—mostly about food—when suddenly someone tagged her: Autumn Wind, why didn't you come for dinner!
Dinner? What are they eating?
The work meal sponsored by the boss! Just replied when another photo was posted, and in that photo was none other than the recently departed Shaolan.
Autumn Wind helplessly replied: Hehe, not feeling well.
A chill colder than the weather swept over her; being forgotten felt truly awful. Autumn Wind repeatedly told herself that she looked down on participating in such activities, but loneliness still surged within her. This was what they called the feeling of being "a stranger in a foreign land." Autumn Wind couldn't help but start missing life in Taipei; as Grandma said, after being away for too long, everywhere feels like home.
At this moment of solitude, Autumn Wind was reminded of her longing for Taipei. Leaning against the headboard of her bed, she began aimlessly searching online. She really wanted to look up Qiu Mowen, but she never had the courage.
She didn't know how long had passed when she woke up to loud banging on the door. The phone she used in Taipei emitted a faint light beside her pillow; an unread call from an unfamiliar Number appeared on the screen.
The banging grew louder and louder. Autumn Wind guessed that it must be Shaolan outside, and she must have drunk a lot—completely wasted, incoherent, and disheveled.
The situation when Autumn Wind opened the door was completely unexpected. Shaolan was standing at the door, looking composed and neatly dressed. Upon seeing Autumn Wind open the door, her previously expressionless face suddenly lit up with excitement. She had her down jacket draped over her left arm and was holding several white bags in her right hand. Her attire was exactly the same as when she left, but her tone was completely different: "Surprise! I heard you didn't eat, so ta-da, look what I brought you!"
I must be dreaming!
After entering, Shaolan casually tossed her down jacket onto the bed and quickly walked over to the table. Seeing the messy state of the table, she paused for a moment, then threw the bowl of instant noodles that Autumn Wind had left on the table into the trash can. Her expression remained exaggerated throughout, and she held the bags high above her head.
Autumn Wind felt a bit at a loss due to her exuberance. Glancing at the bowl of noodles in the trash can, Autumn Wind's face stiffened slightly, and then she forced a smile, faintly hearing the mechanical sound of her facial muscles moving.
Shaolan's enthusiasm was irresistible. She laid out the food one by one on the long table, which resembled those fixed wooden boards found in chain hotels. The arrangement gave off a somewhat lavish banquet vibe. Without hesitation, she pulled Autumn Wind to sit beside the table. "Why didn't you join us for dinner today? Mr. Zhou seemed quite unhappy! So I brought this back for you!"
Autumn Wind thought to herself, no one called me; why should I go?
In the midst of their conversation, Autumn Wind found herself pushed onto a chair by Shaolan. However, as soon as she made contact with the seat, she nearly jumped up. Although the room's air conditioning was warm enough for just a tank top and sleep shorts, the chair felt icy against her skin.
Unable to resist Shaolan's enthusiasm, Autumn Wind picked up chopsticks. The dishes she brought back were all covered in a layer of bright red chili peppers. After awkwardly eating a few bites, Autumn Wind noticed that Shaolan stood beside her with a constant smile on her face like a devoted maid. When Autumn Wind set down her chopsticks, she cautiously handed over an exquisite handkerchief. Instantly, Autumn Wind caught a strong scent.
Seeing Autumn Wind's discomfort, Shaolan stepped forward: "Let me help you wipe!" With that, she forcefully grabbed Autumn Wind's head and pressed the handkerchief against her nose.
In an instant, Autumn Wind struggled to breathe and then drifted into unconsciousness.
This time, it was unclear how long Autumn Wind had been asleep again. She woke up to some noise and saw a string of numbers flashing on the phone that Zhou Ringuo had given her. As she reached for it, she noticed a bracelet on her wrist that hadn't been there before. For some reason, the light felt blindingly bright. A shadow stood at the foot of her bed; still feeling dazed, Autumn Wind reached for her phone as the music finally stopped playing. The screen displayed three missed calls.
As Autumn Wind propped herself up with her arm, she was met with a shocking sight: Shaolan was almost naked sitting on her bed, specifically half of her bottom hanging off the edge of it.
Autumn Wind pressed her temple hard and patted her chest, "What are you doing!"
She was flustered, as if she had been pricked in the backside and jumped up. Behind her was a camera on a stand, its dark lens staring straight at her.
Autumn Wind's throat felt like a dried-up riverbed, with deep cracks. She swallowed, and after a moment of intensified pain, it quickly subsided. "What's wrong with you!" She looked at the dark lens, which was partially covered by Shaolan's black bra that could barely cover half her chest.
After a brief moment of shock, Shaolan quickly picked up a piece of black fabric that resembled silk from the ground and draped it over the stand. Then she hurriedly wrapped herself in a large scarf with diamond patterns. "Nothing! I'm just trying on the outfit for tomorrow's performance! You should go back to sleep! It's fine!"
"But tomorrow is just a rehearsal!" Autumn Wind scratched her head, realizing she had just fallen asleep, and asked in confusion, "How did I fall asleep?" Then Autumn Wind fumbled for her slippers on the floor and unsteadily stood up.
During this time, Shaolan watched Autumn Wind move as if she were a ghost. When Autumn Wind walked to the table to pour herself a glass of water, she glanced at the long table, which was surprisingly empty; even the trash can was spotless. Autumn Wind suddenly doubted her memory: "You? Cleaned up? It's so tidy!"
Shaolan remained dazed and speechless.
Autumn Wind cleared her throat and noticed her stomach felt bloated, so she wobbled toward the Toilet. However, Shaolan jumped in front of her, the scarf wrapped around her like butterfly wings. "Wait a moment! My stomach doesn't feel well; I need to go first!"
"Oh!" Shaolan's actions were indeed puzzling, but Autumn Wind didn't want to say much, so she casually agreed and then laid down on the bed, wrapping herself in the blanket while holding the cup. "Alright, you go first; call me when you're out!"
But until Autumn Wind was once again jolted awake, Shaolan hadn't called for her. Squinting her eyes in confusion, Autumn Wind got up and headed toward the Toilet, only to discover something she couldn't understand: Shaolan was sneaking around at the door, with the scarf only covering her upper body while her round and perky backside remained exposed like half a basketball. Autumn Wind suddenly woke up and sternly asked, "What are you doing!"
She turned around in panic and immediately put on a smile. "It's nothing!" Then she quickly returned to her bed, diving under the covers and tossing the scarf onto the floor.
With a belly full of questions, Autumn Wind walked into the bathroom. When she came out of the bathroom, she made sure to check if the door was closed properly. After confirming everything was normal, she turned off the light, got into bed, and in the darkness, Autumn Wind fumbled under her pillow for her phone. The screen displayed a string of numbers that felt familiar but whose origin she couldn't recall. As sleepiness washed over her again, Autumn Wind sank deeply back into slumber.
When Shaolan woke up in the morning, there was no trace of her. Last night, the camera tripod that had been in the room also vanished like a fleeting image from a dream.
Did she really have a strange dream?
At this moment, Autumn Wind did not think much of it, but she could never have imagined that everything that seemed to happen in her sleep last night would soon mark the beginning of all her misfortunes.
After getting out of bed, Autumn Wind placed her two phones on the long table. Countless missed calls appeared on the screens; they were quite unevenly distributed. The phone from Taipei had as many as 18 missed calls, while the one from Mainland China had only one.
After hastily washing up, Autumn Wind did not waste any time and headed straight out. As she opened the door, she happened to run into Zhou Ringuo, who had just accompanied her. He winked at Autumn Wind, and she understood his intention, following closely behind him as they walked toward the hall.
However, after taking a few steps, Zhou Ringuo suddenly stopped. He almost stumbled into him, and Autumn Wind instinctively shrank back, thinking that he was in trouble now.
She expected Zhou Ringuo to explode in anger, but to her surprise, he remained smiling as he quickly walked back to her, leaning his face close to hers. The smell of smoke wrapped in perfume and toothpaste hit Autumn Wind's face: "Hey, Autumn Wind, I see you're not very familiar with this place. I've arranged for Kai; you can head back to Taipei first! Just buy your own plane ticket and charge it to the company when you get back!"
In an instant, the balloon of emotions inside Autumn Wind burst. She felt a mix of shock and exhilaration; more than anything, she heard a voice inside her shouting: I’ve wanted to get out of this for a long time.
However, this excitement came so suddenly that it manifested on her face as an expression of surprise, startling Zhou Ringuo behind her as well.
