That night, Autumn Wind and Liu Jian did not leave Liu Jian's car the entire night. When Autumn Wind woke up in the morning, the first thing she did was carefully check her clothes and personal belongings.
After finding nothing unusual, Autumn Wind noticed that Liu Jian had been looking at her with a terrified expression. She decided to communicate with Liu Jian about what happened last night.
"Did I scare you last night?" Autumn Wind pressed her hand against her temple, unable to look Liu Jian in the eye. "I didn't expect to get drunk so quickly! I'm really sorry for making you busy all night!"
"No, no, I should be the one apologizing to you!" He lightly touched his ear and began to apologize to Autumn Wind.
Autumn Wind widened her eyes and asked cautiously, "What? What do you mean?"
"I should have taken you home so you could have a good night's sleep, but I couldn't figure out your address, so..." Liu Jian said apologetically.
"Uh-huh..." Autumn Wind chuckled awkwardly, unsure of how to respond.
Her mind wandered to Qiu Ruolan. If Qiu Ruolan knew that even when she was drunk, she wouldn't reveal her identity, wouldn't it be worth celebrating with champagne?
Soon after, Liu Jian bought breakfast. While eating bread, he mumbled a question about what happened after Autumn Wind entered Haoledi last night. Thinking about last night made Autumn Wind feel amused, but remembering Qiu Mowen's disappointed gaze made her feel upset again. Lost in thought, she couldn't help but start crying.
Liu Jian panicked and hurriedly handed a tissue to Autumn Wind. His hands were greasy from breakfast, and the tissue smelled like fried chicken.
Autumn Wind held back her tears and looked at Liu Jian. Suddenly feeling touched, she tried to force a smile but couldn't think of a topic to discuss. She quickly whispered her thanks while continuing to make unreasonable requests: "Could you take me to Zhongxiao East Road?"
If someone had been running around for Autumn Wind and then received just a thank you before more demands were made, she would have definitely turned away and might even kick them a few times if luck was against them.
Liu Jian wasn't angry; instead, he smiled and found some wet wipes to clean his hands. "Sure! Right now?"
Autumn Wind suddenly felt grateful for Yao Lizhen; at least so far, the Liu Jian she introduced was a commendable character.
But soon, Autumn Wind began to feel shy about herself: being completely drunk and disheveled seemed far from the elegance of Liu Jian.
Autumn Wind crossed her arms in front of her chest, occasionally glancing at Liu Jian, who was focused on driving. He only spoke to her when he needed to make a turn, and his eyes were red, likely a result of his own troubles from the night before.
The company was located on Zhongxiao East Road, a rather congested area. To avoid causing him any inconvenience, Autumn Wind got out of the car one intersection early. Liu Jian seemed very familiar with the area and insisted on dropping her off downstairs. "I just happen to be coming here to meet a friend, it's on the way!" he said, unable to hide his blush.
Autumn Wind couldn't help but think: there really are people in Taipei who blush when they lie.
Not responding to him, after the car stopped, they politely exchanged phone numbers. When Autumn Wind deliberately touched his hand, he instinctively pulled back as if he had been shocked.
Laughing loudly, Autumn Wind got out of the car and stood in front of it, waving at Liu Jian. "Bye-bye!"
However, Liu Jian sat frozen in the car, his gaze vacant as if he had lost his soul. About a minute later, just as Autumn Wind was turning to leave, he suddenly leaned out of the window and waved vigorously at her.
His eyes were bright, but Autumn Wind could clearly see something shining even brighter at the corners of his eyes.
The office was unexpectedly quiet; aside from the overly busty receptionist with long hair, there were only a few copywriters. Autumn Wind wandered through various rooms like a drifter.
She didn't see her new boss, Chen Yaren, nor did she spot Qiu Feng. After wandering around aimlessly, Autumn Wind decided to touch up her makeup in the restroom. Just as she came out, she ran into Brother Kai.
He quickly sensed Autumn Wind's idleness and got straight to the point: "Are you willing to accompany our artists to mainland China for promotions next week?"
"Going to mainland China? Wasn't I supposed to assist Sister Chen?" Autumn Wind asked Kai with a frown.
Kai was not very tall, slightly shorter than Autumn Wind, and he looked up at her. "Plans change faster than we can keep up with. The company is short-staffed; since you haven't started with Chen Yaren, why not just go with the newcomers to mainland China?" Brother Kai's face was filled with sincerity.
For some inexplicable reason, Autumn Wind felt blank in her mind and then nodded as if compelled by some force.
Seeing that Autumn Wind agreed, Brother Kai immediately snapped his fingers. "Okay, come with me and fill out this form. We'll go together later to have the travel agency help us apply for the Taiwan Compatriot Permit."
Autumn Wind followed Brother Kai to the service desk, filling out the form while asking, "Taiwan Compatriot Permit?? Does that mean I can freely enter and exit the mainland once I have it?"
"Yes!" Brother Kai replied affirmatively.
Autumn Wind quickly completed the form and respectfully handed it to Brother Kai. "Could you please check if this is correct?"
Kai did not look directly at the form but instead examined Autumn Wind from side to side. "Did you drink last night? Hey, you don't seem like the type to have a hangover!"
"It just so happens that I don't usually drink!" Autumn Wind raised her arm and sniffed her sleeve, confirming a strong smell of alcohol.
Brother Kai lowered his head and began to carefully check Autumn Wind's form. After finding no mistakes, he said, "Well, there's nothing going on today. You can go to the front desk to pick up that package for Chen Yaren. Since I heard you haven't taken your vacation yet, you can head home to rest after delivering it!"
Such good news made Autumn Wind express her gratitude profusely. Before she left, Kai added, "Don't forget to prepare a case with my assistant. If anything comes up, I'll give you a call!"
Chen Yaren was recording at Guangqi Society, which wasn't far from the company. Autumn Wind arrived quickly and handed the items over to Chen Yaren, then immediately left Guangqi Society.
However, just as Autumn Wind stepped down from the stairs of Guangqi Society, she couldn't help but recall what happened yesterday. Thinking about her confrontation with Qiu Mowen, her heart inexplicably felt empty, and she began to shiver uncontrollably.
Suddenly, she thought of Leo. That guy seemed to be involved in some recording last night. She instinctively checked her pockets; besides her phone, she only had a transportation card.
Sigh, looks like I can only take the bus home. While waiting for the bus, Autumn Wind called Leo, but the call went straight to voicemail. How annoying! Why turn off your phone?
Cursing Leo, the bus soon arrived. Half an hour later, Autumn Wind reached the building of Qiu Ruolan. Fortunately, the Administrator was not on duty, so there were no pleasantries exchanged. Autumn Wind directly pressed the elevator button.
At that moment, she noticed a smiley face message from Liu Jian on her phone along with a few words: Your bag is still with me.
Leaning against the wall with one hand, Autumn Wind quickly typed back: Oh right, thank you! I'll come find you tomorrow!
After she finished sending the text message, she suddenly felt someone standing behind her. Autumn Wind habitually looked around.
It was Qiu Mowen.
He appeared somewhat fatigued, with bloodshot eyes and an expressionless face. His gaze swept over Autumn Wind before quickly retracting.
When the elevator doors opened, he rushed in first but did not select a floor. Instead, he stared blankly into the distance. Autumn Wind slowly walked in, pressed the button for her floor, and then quickly stepped back, leaning against the elevator wall, which was almost as shiny as a mirror.
A few seconds later, the elevator stopped.
As the doors opened, Qiu Mowen immediately moved his feet and quickly stepped out of the elevator. When he brushed past Autumn Wind, she clearly heard his somewhat hurried breathing.
But until they both entered Qiu Ruolan's home, one after the other, neither of them said a word.
Even more exaggerated was that as soon as they entered, they almost simultaneously turned around, facing away from each other.
Almost at the same time, both hurried into their own rooms. The sound of "bang" was the overlapping noise of both closing their doors.
Autumn Wind quickly removed her makeup and changed out of her alcohol-scented clothes, while sounds of water and shaving came from Qiu Mowen's room.
After changing clothes, Autumn Wind returned to the living room and stood awkwardly at Qiu Mowen's room door. She felt she should take some initiative. She raised her hand and bit her lower lip but lacked the courage to knock on the door. So she gloomily sat back down on the sofa.
The sofa was messily covered with Qiu Ruolan's favorite blanket, which was proof that she had come back last night and had spent the night alone in this large house.
Autumn Wind draped the blanket over her legs but kept her eyes fixed on Qiu Mowen's door.
She wished she had x-ray vision at that moment to see what Qiu Mowen was busy with. But slowly, she began to feel disheartened. A voice in her heart told her that maintaining Liu Assistant was his job; if there was anyone to blame, it should be Leo. Yes, that was it.
After the sound appeared, Autumn Wind suddenly wanted to get up and approach Qiu Mowen, taking the initiative to show goodwill.
As Autumn Wind was contemplating, the door to Qiu Mowen's room opened. He stood at the bedroom door holding a suitcase, and Autumn Wind pretended to be nonchalant, immediately retreating back to the sofa.
He finally spoke up: "I'm going back to the mainland for work. This time it might take half a year or even longer. Take care of yourself! Don't argue with your mother!"
There was a hint of farewell in his tone, and Autumn Wind didn't dare to look up at him, mumbling, "You don't need to worry about that!"
He seemed to hear her, and a look of helplessness appeared on his face. He sighed deeply: "Don't drink anymore..."
Autumn Wind thought to herself, it's your fault I drink. This thought gave her courage, and she bravely looked him in the eye: "You don't need to worry about that; I can take care of myself. As for you, just don't fall into a pile of women and can't get back up!"
Qiu Mowen's gaze suddenly softened. He put the suitcase down on the floor and stepped forward to tightly embrace Autumn Wind.
The hug was so sudden that Autumn Wind's mind went blank for a moment.
But she could clearly feel his body trembling, his throat also quivering, and after a while he managed to say, "Take care of yourself! I'm leaving!"
With that, he turned to leave, just like in a drama, pulling open the door and stepping out without looking back.
