Senior Centurion Maximian stands at the forefront of the vanguard, his eyes scanning the road ahead and the surrounding forests with the sharpness of a hawk. He wields a gleaming sword and is clad in heavy armor, carrying on the military tradition of Rome, making him appear even more formidable. 0

"Maintain formation, keep watch on all sides," Maximian commands in a deep and resolute voice. 0

The soldiers advanced along the narrow dirt road in an orderly manner, their shields tightly pressed against their sides, and their short swords ready to be drawn at any moment. At first, some of the soldiers still occasionally joked around, trying to ease the tense atmosphere. But as they ventured deeper into the forest, the trees on either side of the road became more and more dense, casting a dappled shadow that darkened the once bright sky. 0

The atmosphere gradually became eerie and tense. Maximian could sense that even the most experienced soldiers had become tense, and the entire team had become unusually quiet. 0

Every corner, every shadow, and even every insignificant sound of the wind makes people feel extremely uneasy. Every shadow in the forest is likely to be an enemy's attack. 0

"Don't be distracted. Report any movement immediately." Maximian reminded again, with an unquestionable authority in his voice. 0

The soldiers tightened their grip on their weapons, each becoming more alert, waiting for a signal or a glance that would unleash the precision and ruthlessness of the Roman army, wiping out any threat. 0

The soldiers unconsciously began to slow their pace, ears tuned to the sound of the wind, as if something might jump out from the shadows of the forest at any moment. Each person's hand quietly moved toward their sword hilt or shield, even those who had initially mocked their more suspicious comrades. 0

At that moment, some soldiers seemed to hear some whispers. At first, they thought it was just their imagination, but the whispers became more and more distinct, even carrying an ancient and terrifying echo. The sound echoed through the dense forest, making it impossible to determine its source. 0

At the same time, there were rustling sounds coming from deep within the forest, as if some creatures were moving through it. This made everyone feel immense pressure, and tiny beads of sweat began to trickle down their foreheads. 0

Senior Centurion Maximian also clearly sensed this unusual atmosphere. He tightly gripped his sword, his gaze sharply scanning the front and both sides, a hint of seriousness hanging on his lips. 0

"Stay alert," he whispered to the surrounding soldiers, "We don't know what we will encounter next, but whatever it is, we must be prepared." 0

Every soldier tensed their nerves, silently preparing for the worst, as the terrifying whispers continued to echo through the woods, like the prelude to an impending storm. 0

Suddenly, a woman appeared on the road, unlike anyone they had ever encountered before. Her attire was strange, like the fur of a wild beast, with bones and strange talismans hanging from her neck. What was even more unsettling was that her face was covered in fresh blood, resembling a savage witch. 0

"Guards, go and control her!" Maximian ordered sternly. Several guards quickly rushed forward and tightly surrounded the woman. 0

"What are you doing here?" a guard loudly questioned, but the woman completely ignored them, instead muttering to herself in a strange language. 0

Suddenly, the woman let out a sharp and chilling laugh. The laughter echoed through the dense forest like the chirping of a demon, causing everyone who heard it to feel their scalp tingle. 0

Maximian furrowed his brow, quickly realizing that the woman's words were in ancient Celtic. Although he didn't understand what she was saying, his intuition told him that it was definitely some kind of curse. 0

"Rome never shows mercy to its enemies!" Maximian roared, drawing his sword with a fierce motion. The blade gleamed with a cold light, reflecting his resolute gaze. 0

Without hesitation, he leaped forward, the sword aimed directly at the woman's heart. In that instant, a strange smile flashed in the woman's eyes, as if she had anticipated it all along. 0

However, the blade mercilessly pierced through her chest, blood splattering. The woman's body shuddered suddenly, then slowly fell to the ground, her eyes, once filled with a strange smile, gradually losing their light. 0

"It seems that's all the curse can do," Maximian said coldly, sheathing his sword once again. But even so, he still felt somewhat uneasy, as the woman's laughter and curse seemed to linger in his heart. 0

After the witch was executed, a tense atmosphere gradually dissipated. The soldiers looked at each other, their expressions showing some relief. Maximian sheathed his short sword, stained with mud and blood, feeling that today's mission was finally coming to an end. 0

However, at that moment, an arrow flew swiftly from the high branches of a tree, piercing through the forehead of a guard with a whoosh. His eyes instantly froze, then he fell to the ground like a felled tree. A sharp scream immediately echoed through the forest. 0

"Enemy attack! Everyone, be on guard!" Maximian immediately drew his sword and shouted. 0

But before he could finish his sentence, a wave of dense arrows flew from the sky. Due to the narrow road, the soldiers had little space to evade. In an instant, several soldiers fell to the ground, their groans and cries mixing together, shattering the tranquility of the forest. 0

Maximian tightly furrowed his brow, feeling incredibly nervous. With a shield in one hand and a sword in the other, his body involuntarily tensed up. He knew that this sudden ambush could make today's mission even more complicated and dangerous. 0

"Find the positions of those archers! Counterattack with crossbows!" he roared out orders, trying to stabilize the situation. 0

The soldiers reacted quickly, pulling out their crossbows and aiming at the faint figures hidden in the trees. But the enemy seemed to be more familiar with the forest, moving like ghosts among the trees, making it difficult to pin them down. 0

A battle ensued, with smoke and fire lighting up the scene, and this was only the beginning. 0

The guards lifted the siege, but in the face of this sudden turn of events, everyone still appeared quite nervous. Maximian turned to them and said, "Keep moving forward, we still have more important things to do." 0
