Xiang Xueer glanced back at Li Yunyang with a sideways look and couldn't help but smile at the four people at the foot of the mountain, saying, "Let's split up; we'll go ahead!"
The four fools remained at the foot of the mountain, and Duck pouted and started crying, "Sister, it's one thing to leave them behind, but you even left me! Waaaah!"
Gunaara sighed heavily, pouting and humming, "Forget it. Shirley is the Demon Realm Princess, the fat guy is the Ancient Artifact Ancestor, and Ling Zhu is the Celestial Fruit. We ordinary folks will just climb the mountain slowly!"
Li Yunyang helplessly kicked his belt, saying, "It's fine if you don't take me; I'll go up myself. Anyway, Shirley said to split up, and our mission is to protect Shennong Ding!"
"Exactly! Brother Li is right!" Lian Cheng Xue nodded. As she spoke, Li Yunyang turned to look closely at Gunaara, surveying her for a moment while stroking his chin and humming, "Hmm, indeed a match made in heaven."
"Huh?" Lian Cheng Xue and Gunaara were completely confused by his words. The two exchanged glances, and then Li Yunyang strapped Shennong Ding to his back and pulled aside the bothersome Duck, saying, "Stop staring, you annoying silly Duck. Let's go quickly; let them be alone to develop their feelings!"
With that, Li Yunyang dragged Duck up the mountain, leaving only Lian Cheng Xue and Gunaara standing there scratching their heads in confusion.
Xiang Xueer and Fat Ancestor moved quickly. It took a long time for Ling Zhu to catch up. She turned her head to glance at the ground; it was too dark to see clearly, but she could still make out signs of destruction left by rats all along the path—rat holes were everywhere.
"These beasts are really fast!" Xiang Xueer couldn't help but frown. However, she still couldn't find that damned Fire Rat. There was no trace of him in the air; it was as if he had vanished from the human world. Where on earth had that rascal gone?
Fat Ancestor looked up at the sky and the rat holes in the mountain. "We need to speed up; otherwise, we really won't catch up with these rats!"
"Mm!" Xiang Xueer nodded. The three of them quickened their pace again, racing toward the mountain peak. It wasn't until dawn broke on the horizon that they finally caught a glimpse of the mountaintop.
After a night of travel at high speed, even Xiang Xueer felt fatigued. In the distance appeared an imposing Taoist temple with winding stairs leading up to a large red gate that seemed several kilometers away.
Finally stopping outside the massive red gate, which was essential for entering this temple, she pushed open the door with a loud bang and looked up at the endless staircase ahead, immediately furrowing her brow.
It was too quiet around them—strangely so. She turned to look at Fat Ancestor and Ling Zhu, who exchanged cautious glances. She said carefully, "Be careful; something feels off!"
"Mm!" Ling Zhu and Fat Ancestor immediately became alert, and the three of them headed up the stairs. Indeed, it was too quiet around them; not even a bird could be heard.
Suddenly, Xiang Xueer faintly caught a whiff of a bloody smell and quickly stopped Fat Ancestor and Ling Zhu, who were walking beside her. "Wait, something's not right here!"
As she followed the scent of blood to the side, she discovered bloodstains around a patch of grass. Xiang Xueer halted and moved forward, pushing aside the overgrown weeds stained with fresh blood. The scene before her left her stunned.
A human skeleton lay sprawled on the ground, gnawed to pieces by some carnivorous beast. The blood was still fresh, indicating that the person had just died. Xiang Xueer bent down to examine the bite marks on the corpse and noticed several dead mice nearby. She immediately understood: "It seems we arrived too late; this group of beasts got here first!"
Ling Zhu couldn't help but cover her mouth and quickly turned her head away; the gruesome sight made her feel extremely uncomfortable. Fat Ancestor looked down at the clothing on the corpse and the longsword in its hand, quickly recognizing, "This must be a disciple of the Southern Mountain Sect of the Five Mountains!"
There were also signs of struggle and fighting in the area. Following the trail of energy, Xiang Xueer continued searching and soon discovered several more bodies with similar fates. It appeared that the Southern Mountain Sect of the Five Mountains had also suffered greatly this time.
"It looks like we need to hurry!" After saying this, Xiang Xueer turned and quickly headed toward the temple. Along the way, they encountered more and more corpses until they reached the mountaintop; they had lost count of how many had fallen victim to that group of Rat Demons.
"We're here!" Upon reaching the last step, Xiang Xueer gasped for breath as she looked up. The white temple towered at least ten meters high, its top already collapsed, with broken tiles and walls riddled with holes.
Surrounding the temple was a beam of white light that seemed to form a barrier, protecting it. The air was filled with intense demonic energy and the stench of blood clashing violently, leaving Xiang Xueer in shock.
With a series of crackling sounds, hundreds of disciples from the Southern Mountain Sect of the Five Mountains, dressed in white robes and wielding longswords, were engaged in a desperate battle against an overwhelming swarm of rats. However, there were simply too many rats pouring out from underground; they easily passed through the barrier and lunged at the people. Given the situation, it was only a matter of time before they were cornered.
Fat Ancestor was stunned by what he saw and quickly began to look around. "This barrier is emanating from the Kongtong Seal; I’m certain that Kongtong Ancestor is inside the temple!"
Inside the temple! Upon hearing this, Xiang Xueer swiftly drew her Azure Wind Sword. Instantly, the sword vibrated mysteriously as if resonating with something. She quickly approached the barrier. "Don't worry, Azure Wind Sword; we'll meet Kongtong soon!"
"But where is that Fire Rat?" Xiang Xueer began searching for Fire Rat's whereabouts. There was no trace of energy in the air as she gazed toward the temple's entrance with her Red Eyes. "Could that rascal be inside the barrier?"
She leaped forward, a whirlwind forming beneath her feet as she approached the barrier. Just as she reached the front, a loud 'bang' echoed, and a powerful force knocked her back. Xiang Xueer tried several more times, but it seemed that due to the magical energy within her body, the barrier was not very welcoming.
Watching the disciples of Southern Mountain of the Five Peaks fall one by one, Ling Zhu grew anxious. If they didn't get in soon, she stepped forward and touched the barrier. "I can enter with the Ancestor of the Demon Refining Pot!"
"Calm down for a moment. We'll go in first to find the Kongtong Seal, and then you can come in!" Fat Ancestor nodded, exchanging a glance with her before they rushed into the barrier.
Xiang Xueer crossed her arms in frustration, watching helplessly as the disciples of Southern Mountain of the Five Peaks were devoured inside the barrier, making it impossible for her to remain calm while waiting at the entrance.
"Are you kidding me? It's not my style to wait outside at a time like this!" Xiang Xueer gripped the hilt of her Azure Wind Sword, her knuckles cracking.
She slowly raised her sword, veins bulging on her forehead, and the sharp blade glimmered as she coldly shouted, "Hmph! Break the barrier? How dare you not let me in! Since that's the case, I'll just force my way in today!"
"Exorcism Essence: Exorcism Sword of Soul Locking!" Xiang Xueer's eyes widened with rage, a glint of Killing Intent flashing from the corners of her eyes as she swung her Azure Wind Sword engulfed in red flames towards the barrier.
The red flames surged forth, countless chains flying out to collide violently with the barrier. With several loud 'pops,' cracks appeared on its surface from her strikes.
In no time, the chains penetrated through the barrier and into its interior. A cold smile appeared on Xiang Xueer's lips; this legendary Empty Copper Mirror's barrier was nothing special after all.
With one hand covering her sword, she gently pulled it back and instantly created a massive opening in the barrier. Xiang Xueer retracted her technique and stepped inside, quickly heading toward the main entrance of the temple.
Suddenly, a loud shout came from beside her. A young man's voice rang out as his icy sword tip pointed directly at her nose: "Who are you, demon? If you want to enter my Southern Mountain of the Five Peaks, you'll have to get past me first!"
