She turned around with a smile and left, and Li Yunyang instantly covered his face, feeling shy like a young girl, too embarrassed to face anyone.
Xiang Xueer walked out of the Ruined Temple, but Duck had already disappeared. What was going on with him? He seemed so startled that he actually ran away. It was late at night, and everyone was resting; she couldn't just ignore him with danger lurking everywhere.
Worried about Duck's safety, she headed in the direction he had run off to. However, after walking for a long time, she still couldn't find any trace of him. Where could he have hidden?
"Woo woo woo!" Duck was hiding next to a big tree, crying his heart out while hugging the tree tightly. "Sister, you really got Blackie and don't want me anymore. How could you move on so quickly?"
Xiang Xueer squinted her eyes and heard Duck's cries from far away. She followed the sound and soon found this scatterbrained guy crying with a heartbroken expression.
Xiang Xueer sighed; this guy was really something. Every time she had to comfort him. She walked over and patted his shoulder. "Alright, stop crying."
Duck turned his head to look at Xiang Xueer, sniffling and wiping his tears as he asked, "What are you doing here? Don't you like Blackie? Why are you looking for me?"
What does that mean? It sounds like he's accusing me of betraying him. Xiang Xueer sighed in frustration. "Enough already, stop crying! If you keep it up, you'll attract wolves!"
Duck didn't stop at all; hearing this made him cry even louder. She quickly covered her ears. "Oh come on, what do you want me to say so you'll stop crying?"
"You say you love me!" Duck turned his head and stared at Xiang Xueer's pitiful face. "Hurry up and say it, or I'll keep crying until the wolves come!"
Xiang Xueer's eyelids twitched. Damn it, why should I tell a duck that I love it? But this guy wouldn't stop crying; it was driving her crazy in the middle of the night. After holding back for a long time, she still couldn't bring herself to say it.
"Then go ahead and cry; I'm leaving!" Xiang Xueer finally threatened him. "Cry all you want; when the wolves come, no one will save you!"
As she spoke, a wolf howl suddenly echoed from the ridge across from them. Duck immediately stopped crying and looked over in fear. "Oh no, could it be? Are wolves really coming?"
Last time in that Village, they were attacked by a pack of wolves, which had already left him with Wolf Phobia. Xiang Xueer tugged at his clothes. "Let's go quickly; it's not safe around here!"
Duck quickly reached out and grabbed Xiang Xueer's arm, still unwilling to let go, and said, "Forget it, I'll just compromise and love you together with Blackie, but you have to promise not to be biased and love me as much as you love him!"
"Okay, okay, okay!" Xiang Xueer helplessly pulled Duck back on the way home, laughing while assuring, "I promise to love both of you equally, is that enough?"
Only then was Duck satisfied and nodded, but then he pressed further, "Then you have to tell Li Yunyang that I want to be the big one, and he can be the small one!"
Goodness, Duck is even dividing up wives now. A cold breeze swept through the surroundings, and the aura of demons grew stronger. She frowned and nodded, "Alright, you can be the big one; let's hurry up!"
A chilling wolf howl echoed from the hillside across, and a white mist began to rise around the forest. Xiang Xueer suddenly stopped in her tracks, her brows furrowing: this is bad; there are demons nearby.
Just as she was speaking, dark shadows began to surge rapidly at her feet, rushing forward. It wasn't until the black mass crawled over her feet that she realized in horror: it was a massive swarm of rats.
"Wow, rats! Help!" Duck screamed as he jumped up in fright, clinging tightly to Xiang Xueer's thigh. She looked in the direction the rats were heading; what on earth was going on? Why were there so many of them moving together?
"Ah, could it be the Fire Rat?" Xiang Xueer suddenly recalled something and turned to head towards the opposite direction. In a panic, Duck shouted, "Where are you going, big sister?"
Only then did Xiang Xueer remember Duck. She patted his shoulder and instructed, "You hurry back and inform Li Yunyang that I've discovered clues about the Fire Rat!"
"Fire Rat? Is that the one under the Demon Lord, the Fire Rat General?" Duck widened his eyes in surprise and quickly turned to run towards the direction of the Ruined Temple: "Big sister, that guy is really powerful; you need to be careful!"
Of course I know that; I don't need you, silly Duck, to tell me. After thinking this, Xiang Xueer leaped onto the treetops and surveyed the terrain around her. She quickly grasped the movement direction of this group; they were moving very fast and in astonishing numbers towards Wuyue Mountain.
Looking closely again, she saw a tall red figure walking right in the middle of the rat swarm as if it were their leader, marching steadily downwards. It seemed this guy must be the Fire Rat, but why had it come to Wuyue Mountain? Was it after the Empty Copper Mirror?
"Hmph! Looks like I have no choice but to meet this Fire Rat General today!" With this thought in mind, a whirlwind formed at her feet blocking the path of the Fire Rat. With a swift motion, she drew out her Azure Wind Sword, its blade gleaming with an intimidating cold light.
Suddenly from behind came a surprise attack from Cheng Yaojin. Remarkably, he hadn’t noticed her presence at all. The Fire Rat's red eyes flickered with surprise as it looked up and down at Xiang Xueer.
In an instant, a sinister smile cracked at the corner of her mouth. "Let me guess who you are?"
"No need to guess, I am Xiang Xueer!" She boldly declared her identity. Upon hearing this, Fire Rat threw back his head and laughed heartily, his wicked laughter piercing through the dark night, shaking the entire mountain wilderness.
"Hahaha, an interesting person! No wonder Demon Lord is quite fond of you!" Fire Rat tilted his head, looking at her with great interest. Just his gaze made her feel uncomfortable all over.
Demon Lord, Xiang Xueer couldn't help but frown at the mention of these two words. Pointing with her Azure Wind Sword, she shouted, "Tell me, what do you and your lackeys want here at Wuyue Mountain?"
"What are you here for? I'm here for the same reason!" Fire Rat replied calmly, arms crossed over his chest, staring directly at her. His tall stature made Xiang Xueer look like a little dwarf compared to him.
Tch! So tall, he was practically like a wall. Xiang Xueer frowned, but it seemed that Fire Rat had no intention of lingering. He took a step back and waved his hand, causing a swarm of rats to rush toward Xiang Xueer.
With their Red Eyes glaring menacingly at her, they resembled little demons as they squeaked loudly. Just looking at them sent shivers down Xiang Xueer's spine; she hated rats the most, especially in such large numbers.
"Get lost!" Xiang Xueer swung her longsword in a horizontal arc, and the sword energy swept through a group of rats. With another sweep, there was not a single living creature within three meters around her.
When Xiang Xueer turned to look for Fire Rat, he had already vanished without a trace; even his aura was nowhere to be found. That despicable fellow escaped really quickly.
Frowning, she scanned the ground where the rats had been. They were digging holes in the soft earth, kicking up dust everywhere. In no time, the dark mass of rats disappeared into the holes, retreating underground.
She hurried over to look at the ground, where only holes remained on the soft surface. Turning to face Wuyue Mountain, an ominous premonition surged within her.
