"It seems that neither of us will get a chance to intervene!" Xiang Xueer picked up the dagger from the ground and stood beside Li Yunyang, watching the battle. Lan Ran Qingtian was currently in the advantageous position, and even if the two wanted to help, they probably wouldn't have the opportunity to do so.
Inside the narrow cave, Taotie, being large in size, couldn't maneuver effectively. It pushed back forcefully, crashing through the top of the cave with a loud bang, and leaped out of the cave.
Debris rained down on them, and Xiang Xueer cursed under her breath; this beast was indeed cunning. Just then, a giant rock came crashing toward her. Li Yunyang was about to step forward when Lan Ran Qingtian rushed in and smashed the rock with a punch, sending shattered stones flying everywhere.
Before Xiang Xueer could react, Qingtian pulled her into his embrace, using his body to shield her from the falling debris.
After a moment, the three opened their eyes. Xiang Xueer looked up at Lan Ran Qingtian and then noticed how tightly he was holding her. His muscular body pressed against her face made it all too easy for her imagination to run wild. She rubbed her eyes and smiled, saying, "Thank you!"
Li Yunyang brushed off the dust from his clothes, looking as if he had just emerged from a pile of rubble. When he looked up and saw the two in an intimate embrace, he immediately shouted, "Hey! What are you two doing? Separate now!"
What an idiot! Xiang Xueer and Qingtian glanced at the mountain peak that had lost its top and exchanged looks before quickly running out of the cave, leaving Li Yunyang standing there cursing, "You two left me behind again! Wait for me!"
Once outside the cave, the three quickly searched for Taotie's presence. However, after scouring their surroundings, they found no trace of Taotie. Xiang Xueer stomped her foot angrily and exclaimed, "Damn beast! After all that effort to find it, it ran away!"
"What do we do now?" As soon as Xiang Xueer spoke, Li Yunyang pointed east and shouted, "Let's chase it this way! I can smell that beast's scent!"
"No way! It should be this way!" Lan Ran Qingtian pointed west. "It must have escaped from here; look at the footprints left by Taotie on the ground!"
Li Yunyang pointed angrily to the east. "No! It's east! I say it's east, so it's east!"
"Brother Li, I'm sure it's west!" Lan Ran Qingtian shook his head stubbornly.
"East!"
"West!"
"East!"
“West!”
“Shirley, which way do you think it is?” After a heated argument, the two men turned to her in unison and asked.
“Ah, well!” Xiang Xueer glanced at Li Yunyang, whose eyes were nearly bulging out in jealousy. Lan Ran Qingtian was more composed, but stubbornly pointed at the traces left on the ground, refusing to back down. The two men began to argue again.
This was troublesome; it wouldn't do to be divided at such a critical moment while hunting Taotie. Xiang Xueer awkwardly smiled and pointed south: “I think it seems to be this way!”
“Ah?” The two men were momentarily stunned. Xiang Xueer pouted: “That Taotie is so cunning; it led us in circles before. Who knows if the two paths you mentioned are intentionally left as clues? I think the least likely place is actually the most probable one!”
After listening to her elaborate reasoning, Li Yunyang and Qingtian exchanged glances. Xiang Xueer patted both of their shoulders: “Looks like we should stick to the old rule—split into three groups and regroup here if we can’t find anything!”
“No way!” This time, the two men were completely in agreement, directly rejecting her suggestion two to one. In the end, they surprisingly agreed on one thing: to follow Xiang Xueer down the southern path.
“Ugh, having one girl and two boys is really troublesome. I should have just gone one-on-one!” Xiang Xueer muttered as they walked. Li Yunyang turned to her and asked, “Dead Girl, what are you mumbling about? What’s this one-on-one or two-on-one?”
“Nothing, nothing! I was just thinking about tactics, tactics!” Xiang Xueer quickly changed the subject. After they had chased for quite a distance, she suddenly stopped, crouched down, and looked at the large footprints left on the ground, a smile creeping onto her lips: “Looks like I was right; that cunning beast really went this way!”
Lan Ran Qingtian came over to take a look, then cautiously scanned the surrounding environment with his keen eyes. The area was densely forested with no clues in sight, so he looked up at the trees above.
“I’ll go check the situation!” He said, and with a whoosh, he used Azure Wind to leap onto the top of a tree over ten meters high.
“Wow, so cool!” Xiang Xueer looked up at Qingtian on top of the tree and couldn’t help but sigh in admiration, which immediately drew Li Yunyang’s displeasure. He crossed his arms angrily: “What’s so great about that? It’s just climbing a tree; it’s not like he’s a monkey or anything special!”
“Pfft!” Xiang Xueer shot him a disdainful glance: “Oh really? If you’re so capable, why don’t you give it a try?”
Li Yunyang looked up at the towering tree and swallowed hard: “I... I don’t feel like going up; this height is nothing for me!”
Hehe! Xiang Xueer secretly laughed; this Li Yunyang never changed his stubborn ways.
Under the black curtain of night, Lan Ran Qingtian stood at the highest point of the tree, beginning to survey the surroundings. The light around was too dim; after looking for a while, it seemed that a swamp ahead would be easier for him to hide in.
With a swoosh, he gracefully landed from the tree and pointed towards the swamp: "It should be over there. The area is surrounded by woods, and that spot is where it can hide more easily."
A swamp? Interesting! Xiang Xueer reached back to touch her AK47; she loved wilderness combat the most. Compared to wild beasts, she was better at concealing her movements and then sniping her prey.
Xiang Xueer walked in front, using a two-meter-long tree trunk to probe the path, leaving marks along the way. Li Yunyang and Lan Ran Qingtian followed closely behind as the three of them entered the Misty Forest, where the Swamp of Despair devoured people without leaving bones.
"Ah!" Before she could steady herself, she heard Li Yunyang's scream from behind. She turned her head to see that despite marking the path clearly, this fool had still fallen into a trap, with half of his body already stuck in the mud.
"This damn mud pit is so annoying!" Li Yunyang twisted his body as the stubborn swamp seemed to open its mouth wide, wanting to swallow him whole.
"Don't move! The more you struggle, the faster you'll sink!" Xiang Xueer shouted, pointing at Lan Ran Qingtian beside her: "You don't move either; I'll go pull him out!"
Upon hearing this, both of them quickly stood still. Xiang Xueer carefully approached Li Yunyang step by step along the footprints they had left earlier and reached out to grab his hand. However, the surrounding marsh was all soft and mushy; despite her efforts, she still couldn't reach him.
She took her AK47 off her back and handed it to him. Li Yunyang reached out but could only barely touch the gun's tip while still half-submerged in the mud, unable to free himself.
What should we do? Xiang Xueer looked around and suddenly caught sight of a green snake slithering by in an S-shape on the ground. She smiled and picked up the more than one-meter-long snake; its round head suggested it was likely non-venomous.
"Hey, what are you doing?" Li Yunyang stared at the green snake she was playing with, swallowing hard as he called out. Xiang Xueer flicked her wrist and tossed the snake's head towards him: "Quickly grab it; I'll pull you up!"
