"Bang bang bang!"
"Run!"
"Where's the torch? Throw it over!"
"And there's gasoline!"
Today had gone smoothly, but when they passed through a seemingly unremarkable low-lying Mountain Valley, Bai Yujing and his group ran into trouble.
Thick fog obscured their vision, and when Bai Yujing and the others ventured deep into Mountain Valley, they discovered they were surrounded by a swarm of snakes. The snakes were densely packed throughout the valley, layer upon layer, in the grass, on the rocks, and in the treetops. It looked overwhelming enough to paralyze anyone who was afraid of snakes or had a phobia of clusters.
Bai Yujing swung his knife and torch continuously, pouring gasoline on the ground and igniting it. The dry grass and bushes quickly caught fire, creating a large blaze. The snakes that had been approaching to attack Bai Yujing and his group writhed in the flames, and the smell of roasting meat wafted through the air. Immediately, the encroaching snakes began to retreat.
Seizing this opportunity, Bai Yujing dashed forward. He led the charge with one hand holding the torch to fend off the snakes while using his other hand to slash at several Flower Snakes that had dropped from the trees to attack them. Lao Qi and Zhong Qiang followed closely behind, wielding torches and guns, occasionally striking out at the snakes that drew near.
They ran for quite a distance before finally bursting out of Mountain Valley. The five of them felt as if their lungs were about to burst as they sat down in the jungle, panting heavily. "How many snakes were there? Damn it! Even if they didn't bite anyone, they sure scared us to death!"
Bai Yujing also felt a chill in his heart. It wasn't that he was afraid of snakes, but the sheer number of them was indeed overwhelming. At that moment, Li Hao started wailing, "We're doomed! We're doomed! Old Bai, I've been bitten by a snake!"
Bai Yujing looked over. "Where did it bite you?"
Li Hao rolled up his pant leg high and revealed a row of wounds on his snow-white thigh. Bai Yujing examined it and asked, "How do you feel? Any dizziness or shortness of breath?"
"Nope," Li Hao replied after checking.
Bai Yujing immediately reached out and pinched Li Hao's bite wound hard. Li Hao yelped in pain, "Old Bai, what are you doing? That hurts!"
Bai Yujing replied irritably, "Stop screaming! It's nothing; you're not poisoned. Besides, what are you afraid of snake venom for? You have more poison in you than any snake!"
"I think I've been bitten too!" At that moment, a weak voice came from behind. Bai Yujing immediately saw Lao Qi's face was pale as he looked at his arm. He must have been bitten by a snake that jumped down from a tree while they were running.
Bai Yujing quickly walked over and saw the red and swollen mark on Lao Qi's arm. He immediately set down his backpack, took out a rubber band, and tied it around the upper part of the arm. Bai Yujing pressed on the wound a couple of times; it was red and swollen. "How does it feel? Do you have any sensation?"
Lao Qi shook his head. "I can't feel anything!"
Bai Yujing nodded immediately. "It seems you've really been bitten by a venomous snake; it's neurotoxic!"
Lao Qi confirmed, "It's the Silver Ring Snake. I can barely lift my arm!"
Most snake venoms are neurotoxins, and the Silver Ring Snake that bit Lao Qi is no exception. After poisoning, it causes muscle paralysis, rendering one unable to move. As the venom spreads through the bloodstream, it can lead to systemic paralysis, shock, or even death. Intense physical activity accelerates blood circulation, allowing the toxin to reach the body more quickly.
Li Hao leaned in closely. "How is it, Old Bai? Do you have any solutions?"
Zhong Qiang also expressed his concern. "I know some herbs that can detoxify, but it's hard to find them in this place. The thick fog makes it easy for us to get lost."
Bai Yujing nodded. "Don't worry; I came prepared!"
Bai Yujing immediately cleaned the wound with clean water and squeezed out the poisoned blood. Then he took out a small box from his backpack and retrieved a small syringe and a small bottle.
Xu Lei curiously looked over. "What is this?"
After breaking the seal on the small bottle, Bai Yujing inserted the syringe into it and drew out all the liquid inside, then expelled the air from the syringe completely. This was something Bai Yujing had specifically brought from his territory space; Lao Qi was an important guide, and he couldn't afford to let him die here. "Antivenom; I prepared it when we entered the mountains!"
Zhong Qiang was also very impressed. "Your preparations are so thorough! No wonder you always come back safe after every adventure; you really know what you're doing!"
Li Hao patted Bai Yujing on the shoulder. "That's right! Old Bai, you're reliable; it's reassuring to be with you!"
Lao Qi was originally in a state of despair, with several people trapped in a predicament, and no way out in sight. He had already been poisoned by snake venom, and amidst the hazy smoke, who could save him? Little did he know that Bai Yujing had long been prepared.
Bai Yujing lifted Lao Qi's arm and found a vein to inject the antidote: "I asked about this when we entered the mountains. There are many poisonous snakes, insects, and various plants that can cause poisoning up here, so I brought a supply of antidote. By the way, I also have a box of detox pills produced by Yunnan Baiyao, which are very effective!"
As Bai Yujing spoke, it began to drizzle from the sky. Bai Yujing immediately stood up and looked at Lao Qi: "How are you feeling?"
Lao Qi still felt a tingling sensation throughout his body, but the feeling of weakness had lessened somewhat: "I think I'm feeling a bit better; it hasn't worsened!"
Bai Yujing nodded: "Good, the antidote is taking effect. Zhong Qiang, you're stronger; carry him on your back. I'll lead the way, and Li Hao, you bring up the rear with my straight knife. Don't fall behind!"
Bai Yujing switched to the Dog Leg Knife for clearing the path, and the group pressed on through the rain. Li Hao glanced back: "This rain came just in time! We just started a fire, and now it's raining. I was worried about starting a forest fire!"
Seeing Lao Qi improving little by little lifted Zhong Qiang's spirits: "There's a river over there, and this side is all rocks. Don't worry; even if a fire starts, it won't spread into a forest fire. This rain is probably just coincidental. Let's move faster and find a place to take cover from the rain!"
"Roar!"
At that moment, a fierce roar echoed from afar, reverberating throughout Snake Valley, lingering for quite some time. Bai Yujing and the others immediately looked toward the source of the roar, exchanging glances.
Bai Yujing pulled up the hood of his jacket: "The sound seems to be close; we need to leave quickly!"
The group, who had just begun to relax after the crisis had passed, fell silent again as they hurried through the rain-soaked jungle. The combination of rain and fog created an atmosphere that no one had ever experienced before while running through the jungle!
