Hank squatted beside an old-looking building, watching a group of soldiers directing laborers as they shoved bags and bundles of books into a glass bottle. They had been working all day just to fill the bottle.
Meanwhile, Huckman had set off early with Shen Fei to the coal mining area to dig up the coal needed by Bai Yujing and others. Packs of smoked beef and lamb were being loaded onto the ship where Bai Yujing and the others were. Emma was busy counting and organizing the warehouse, sorting useful resources and items for easy access.
Bai Yujing was discussing their next course of action with Bivis. From Lilliput, Bai Yujing and his companions had gathered quite a bit of information about the Island of Life. Combined with the latter half of what Lemuel Gulliver had left behind, they now had a preliminary outline regarding the situation on the Island of Life.
"The Island of Life is the center of Sky Country, also known as the Land of Gods. It contains the Fountain of Life, which can nurture all things. The Island of Life is also referred to as Fairy Island, home to a vast number of Fairy Clans, where various kinds of fairies and spirits reside, much like those described in legends."
"Among them, the most unique are the lake fairies, known as Lake Fairies. Water is the source of all growth, and these lake fairies control the water sources above the Island of Life. Each Fairy Tribe has a Lake Fairy, whose status is akin to that of a priest in human tribal times!"
"The highest-ranking Lake Fairy is responsible for guarding the relic left behind by the gods—the Fountain of Life!"
Bai Yujing looked at Bivis. "So, does that mean we need to find the current guardian Lake Fairy of the Fountain of Life in order to successfully obtain its water? Will these Fairy Clans agree to let us take it?"
Bivis shook his head. "According to ancient records from Blaviskov's great sage, long ago, the Fountain of Life had already dried up. Therefore, there is no longer a guardian Lake Fairy for it. Moreover, it seems that the Lake Fairy Clan was born out of the Fountain of Life; due to its depletion, the existing Lake Fairies have become increasingly rare."
"So by the time Lemuel Gulliver arrived at the Island of Life, only a handful of Lake Fairies remained."
Bai Yujing immediately connected with the Golden Disc in their possession. "The key? Could it be that Lily brought down the key to the Fountain of Life, causing it to dry up?"
Bivis shrugged. "I’m not sure, but what we do know is that if we bring the Golden Disc with us, no one should stop us from finding the Fountain of Life. After all, a dried-up Fountain of Life is worthless, while we might be able to restore its brilliance!"
Bivis's eyes flickered slightly; he wasn't wrong—the Golden Disc could indeed help rejuvenate the Fountain of Life, but he was concealing a very important point.
Bai Yujing did not notice and was completely engrossed in the records of the Island of Life. Bivis placed the notes and compass on the table. Bai Yujing picked up the compass, opened the lid, and saw the needle immediately start to move.
"It seems this is the direction. If we travel light, we should be able to reach the Island of Life in less than ten days," he said.
Bivis also stood up. "Speaking of which, I am very much looking forward to this legendary island of gods, a mysterious place filled with fairies and spirits. What will it really be like?"
"According to the notes, the Fairy Clan has developed a highly advanced civilization. Many strange sights and life forms left Lemuel Gulliver dumbfounded, treating them as miraculous creations of deities. It seems this final leg of our journey may far exceed our imagination!" Bai Yujing added, following behind Bivis.
The ship was already secured. In front of the vessel, there were several wooden rollers waiting for departure. When the time came, Bai Yujing and the others would push the ship away from this island, charging back into the Cloud Sea, turning the bow towards the Island of Life.
As for Lilliput, a small island just a few dozen miles wide, Bai Yujing and his companions had explored it thoroughly over the past few days. At first, it felt fresh and exciting, but later it became rather dull. For Leprechauns, it was fine; for humans, it was just barren land with nothing to offer.
At noon, Shen Fei and Huckman returned carrying two large bags. Bai Yujing stood on the deck and waved at them. "How did it go? Any luck?"
Will Hackman puffed out his cheeks in frustration. "While you were lounging around at home, Shen and I were worn out! I don’t care; you’re digging coal this afternoon!"
Bai Yujing shrugged his shoulders. "Alright then, old man, you can take a break this afternoon. Shen Fei and I will go over there. By the way, can we use the coal you found?"
Huckman opened one of the bags, revealing a mix of black coal and lumps. Bai Yujing reached in to feel it and then clapped his hands together. "Not bad; it's okay. But this amount isn't enough. We'll probably need to make several more trips. Unfortunately, there are no vehicles here to transport it; we have to carry it all by hand."
Bai Yujing found another bag and took a shovel with Shen Fei as they set off again, hoping to stockpile enough coal today. Just as they started out, they saw Hank returning. "How did it go, Hank? Did you find much?"
Bai Yujing looked at Hank; this guy had a collecting obsession and wanted everything he could find. The treasure trove that was Lilliput had him so captivated that he hardly ever went home, leaving before dawn and returning only after dark each day.
Hank chuckled, "I've cleared out the entire library, but the books are too small and the text is too tiny. I can only take them back to read slowly. The culture of Lilliput will probably keep me busy for a long time. I'm very curious about it. By the way, I don't know how to read Lilliputian Language, so you'll have to teach me!"
Bai Yujing immediately deflected, saying, "Bivis can help you too; you can ask him!"
"But he can only write and can't read, and he isn't as knowledgeable as you. I think it's better to ask you!"
"Alright, but I'm quite busy right now. I probably won't be free until later. By the way, we're planning to set off tonight, so you can't be too late coming back. We must leave before sunset!"
"What? So soon? I still have many plant samples to collect! I need to go back right away!" Hank immediately returned to the ship, put down his things, and then rushed back out.
