The M1911 semi-automatic pistol, with its all-black body, has a single-stack magazine grip that feels very comfortable. Due to the single-stack design and the grip tape, the cross-section of the grip is oval-shaped, making it one of the most pleasant handguns to hold.
"The Hungarian knockoff version of the 1911, nice job, Li Hao! You got it so quickly!" Bai Yujing said as he pressed the magazine release button with his thumb. He skillfully removed the magazine, checked it, reloaded it, and chambered a round. Although the gun was somewhat long, it felt slender and not cumbersome at all. Was this truly what romance meant for a man? Bai Yujing felt an irresistible attachment to it.
Li Hao stood at a distance, "Be careful, don’t accidentally discharge it. How come you’re so skilled? Have you played with guns before?"
Bai Yujing wouldn’t tell Li Hao that he had exchanged thirty points for basic firearm handling skills. A flood of information about firearms surged into his mind, allowing him to handle it quickly and intuitively understand how to use it, its model, and its drawbacks.
"I practiced shooting while I was abroad, so I know a bit," Bai Yujing replied without looking back, his attention fully on the gun. The safety mechanism was a hammer safety located conveniently near the web of his hand, easily reachable with his thumb and very user-friendly.
After checking it, Bai Yujing toggled the safety on and off carefully before putting it away. He had two boxes of ammunition, each containing fifty rounds. As he packed these items away, he felt a rush of adrenaline; this was a real weapon.
Li Hao still looked somewhat worried. Bai Yujing knew that he had put Li Hao at some risk this time. Despite being a rich second-generation kid with some flaws, Li Hao had always been reliable when it came to him.
"Don’t worry; I’m only using it for self-defense. If nothing happens, I won’t use them at all. It’s just that this trip to Kobin City is too dangerous; I’m not confident but have no choice!" Bai Yujing finished packing his luggage, slinging a large backpack over his shoulder while carrying a bag in one hand and pulling a suitcase with the other.
"Are you really not taking me with you? I can help out!" Li Hao leaned against the doorframe of Bai Yujing's room, wearing an appropriately charming smile.
"No need; you stay in Tokyo and chase girls. Let me handle this cool business of fighting evil as the main character!" Bai Yujing said as he pushed open the door and left without looking back.
The car Li Hao prepared was a black MG3, which Bai Yujing was quite satisfied with. He placed a folding bicycle in the trunk along with his suitcase and bag while keeping his backpack in the passenger seat for easy access.
As they gradually left Tokyo, the metropolitan atmosphere faded away. The scenery transformed from simple skyscrapers to rivers, bridges, trees, and fields appearing along the way. To be honest, Bai Yujing preferred this kind of view; it lifted his spirits.
The wild grass by the roadside grew tall and showed signs of yellowing and drying due to autumn. Leaves began to fall, covering the concrete path ahead with foliage. A tram whizzed past on the mountain road ahead, making clattering sounds as it went by.
Bai Yujing's destination is located next to Kyoto in Fukui Prefecture. In Neon, Tokyo and Kyoto are two different places; Kyoto was the ancient capital, while Tokyo is the current capital, similar to the relationship between Nanjing and Beijing in China. Fukui Prefecture is situated next to Wakasa Bay and is divided into nine cities.
Indeed, in Neon, a prefecture is larger than a city, and some administrative units called villages can even be larger than cities. Obama City is one of the cities under Fukui Prefecture, located by the sea and adjacent to Wakasa Bay.
The navigation was quite accurate, so Bai Yujing did not take many detours and soon entered Fukui Prefecture. Compared to Tokyo, this area felt like a backward small town; however, both sides of the road were lined with trees, and the greenery was well maintained.
As Bai Yujing passed along the road, he could see rows of cherry blossoms blooming on the hillside. Unfortunately, it was not spring, so he could not enjoy that beautiful scenery. A tranquil and wide river flowed quietly beside the road, with large fields neatly divided and crops growing abundantly.
Continuing forward along the shaded path into the city, traffic increased. An ancient stone bridge and a Japanese castle, whose origins were unknown, stood on the opposite bank of the river. As he slowly drove past the trees by the riverside, a small county town came into view.
The houses varied in age; most were only three or four stories tall. The tram line ran down the middle of the main road, and Bai Yujing had already seen several trams pass by.
Upon reaching Obama City, he was greeted by the rural scenery of Neon along the way—vast fields stretching across the land. Following the coastal highway, he could see the endless ocean. By evening, Bai Yujing finally arrived at his accommodation in Obama City—a traditional Onsen Ryokan.
The wooden building looked somewhat aged, with a lantern hanging at the entrance. Two large red pillars flanked either side of the entrance, each holding a lantern as well; however, they were all electric. The quaint three-story building primarily featured wood painted in red lacquer. Although it was not new, it had been well renovated and maintained, giving it a clean appearance.
"Hello, do you have a reservation?" As Bai Yujing entered, he saw a woman in a kimono rush forward. He completed his check-in process and followed her to his room while holding a sign.
From the outside, it looked traditional; however, the interior was not as old-fashioned as Bai Yujing had imagined. The floor was covered with brand-new tatami mats, featuring an exquisite small square table and floor chairs. The walls were adorned with traditional ink paintings and calligraphy scrolls. The living room also had a folding screen. When he opened the sliding wooden balcony door, he could see the ocean—much better than he had imagined. He had to admit that he really liked this style.
"That's all set; you can go about your business!" Bai Yujing nodded to the woman in the ryokan. He had just heard her mention that this was a family-run inn that had been operating since the Meiji Period and had been passed down through several generations.
"Okay! We will prepare dinner shortly. Bai Sang, please remember to come down; there are two other guests you can meet!"
"Alright, thank you!"
After putting down the luggage and looking at the wooden ceiling coated with natural wood varnish, along with the square recessed lights embedded in it, Bai Yujing felt that this small inn was quite exquisitely decorated, showing a lot of thought put into it. Although it only had six guest rooms, this small yet refined atmosphere was more endearing.
It seemed there was a hot spring downstairs; should he go experience it? Bai Yujing thought for a moment and immediately pushed open the door, only to see the occupant of the room on the left also opening their door. Bai Yujing instantly caught sight of this guest's face, but to his surprise, when the guest saw Bai Yujing, they reacted like a startled deer and quickly closed their door.
Bai Yujing was taken aback for a moment and promptly knocked on the door. He saw Amiya Miri open the door in a flustered manner, her head lowered and not daring to speak. Bai Yujing glanced at her and immediately understood what was happening: “Where is Li Hao?”
“Mr. Li's room is downstairs!”
When Bai Yujing knocked on Li Hao's door, he found Li Hao engrossed in playing a game on his computer, currently shouting out in English about achieving a pentakill: “Old Bai, you're here! The Japanese server is just terrible, but why does it feel like everyone is Chinese? These guys have a perfectly good domestic server but come to the Japanese server for what? There's no sense of achievement in killing here.”
“How come you two are faster than me?” Since he was already there, Bai Yujing didn’t want to criticize them.
Li Hao immediately replied: “I took the JR Tōkaidō Shinkansen; it only takes three and a half hours from Tokyo to reach Fukui. I got off at Koshigahama Station, which is less than eight hundred meters from here. How come you arrived so late? That's way too slow!”
At that moment, the opponent's crystal had already exploded, and suddenly Li Hao remembered something: “Oh right! Let's go soak in the hot spring! I just heard that customer service Sister say that they have natural hot springs here, which are quite famous in this area!”
“But you don’t understand Japanese, how did you catch that?” Bai Yujing asked curiously. Could it be that he used the legendary sign language?
Li Hao proudly waved his phone: “I have an app installed on my phone that can automatically translate when sending emails. After Meili-chan found out, she emailed me to let me know!”
“...So when you two communicate face to face, you’re just typing away?”
