As they ascended along the entrance, they directly entered a bizarre world. Bai Yujing swayed his steps and squeezed through the partially concealed entrance, stepping into an expansive hall that seemed boundless, with no visible edges or ceiling. The curved walls extended far into the distance.
Bai Yujing could see lush aquatic plants covering the entire ground, with colorful lights shining down from above, illuminating everything in sight. The light refracted in various colors as it rippled with the flowing water, while strange flat fish swam freely.
The detector had already entered ahead for exploration. Bai Yujing could see that this was an incredibly vast hall, topped with a dome. Although he did not know what emitted the light, he was certain that it was not natural sunlight.
"Wow!"
"This place is absolutely stunning!"
Everyone who entered was shocked by the sight, instinctively turning off their headlamps as they gazed at this world filled with shimmering water. The light seemed to flow with the blue water, and enormous stone pillars rose from the ground, while schools of fish swam around these pillars.
The stone pillars were covered in intricate carvings, entwined with unknown green plants. Aquatic grass danced with the water flow, occasionally revealing long eels emerging from within. It was a blue-hued world.
"Did we come directly to the seabed?" Li Hao asked, somewhat incredulous.
Bai Yujing shook his head. "We are still underground in the village, but there should be a place here that connects directly to the sea, which is why this scene appears."
"Can we have the detector check what those glowing objects above are?" Bai Yujing asked the personnel above.
"No problem... Wait, what?!"
"What happened?"
"It's a fist-sized gem! So many of them, all kinds! These things are glowing; it's the gems!" The personnel sounded very excited.
Bai Yujing immediately understood; he feared that these glowing objects might be some kind of bioluminescent creatures—unknown beings were the most terrifying. He turned on his headlamp and walked forward when a voice reached his ears.
"You've come!" It was a melodious female voice.
Bai Yujing looked at Li Hao but saw that Li Hao remained still, awkwardly swimming up to get a better look at those pillars. The only entity that could connect with him in such a way was the one they had encountered earlier.
"That's right, it's me. You don't need to show hostility towards me; I have no intention of harming you. Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to come here!" the female voice continued.
Bai Yujing was taken aback; he hadn't spoken: "Can you hear what I'm thinking?"
Bai Yujing didn't speak out loud, but the thought appeared in his mind and was immediately answered: "Yes!"
As Bai Yujing floated in this body of water, he gradually approached the stone pillars. He could see that the pillars were covered with mysterious carvings, and a few people would struggle to wrap their arms around one. Bai Yujing found it hard to imagine how such a large structure was built underground.
"It only takes a few hundred years; nothing is impossible. Many things you find strange are simply due to your lack of understanding of the unknown!" The mysterious voice answered Bai Yujing's confusion.
"Then can you tell me who you are? As an unknown existence, what do you want us to do?" Bai Yujing looked around. There were many stone pillars, and the ground was mostly covered with aquatic plants. Occasionally, he could see small fish and crabs moving in and out, and he also spotted a patch of coral in the distance.
It had been many years since anyone had come here, which is why it had become this scene. Bai Yujing searched around, trying to find where this existence that was connected to him was located. "I am in the central position; if you come over, you will see me. Isn't it nice here? A place where no one is around is the most natural and beautiful; don't you think so?"
"You still haven't answered my question," Bai Yujing said.
The mysterious voice did not hesitate: "My name is Man, and I am an Atlantian."
Bai Yujing suddenly stopped moving, catching the attention of Lin Ruoqiao who was following him: "What's wrong? Bai Yujing?"
Bai Yujing quickly responded: "It's nothing; everyone be careful while exploring and try not to touch anything or trigger any mechanisms."
Bai Yujing hadn't expected such a result—an Atlantian? Aren't they mermaids?
"You'll know when you come over to see me!" After saying this, the being named Man fell silent.
Bai Yujing hesitated for a moment before speaking into the intercom: "Everyone come back to me."
Immediately, those searching around returned to him. These people had all been invited by Li Hao, so they naturally listened to him. Li Hao also swam over: "What's wrong? I was just looking at the gems above."
"Bai Yujing" immediately said, "You take everyone out of here first; something might happen soon!"
"Li Hao's" expression suddenly became serious. "You discovered that..."
"Bai Yujing" didn't let "Li Hao" finish. "Just go out first!"
"Lin Ruoqiao" looked at "Bai Yujing" with disbelief. "You don't mean you've found some treasure and want to keep it for yourself, do you?"
"Li Hao" quickly stopped "Lin Ruoqiao" from saying more. "Don't say that; I trust him. Let's hurry and get out."
"Bai Yujing" said, "Go back to the surface and leave the detector behind. If anything happens, I'll call you immediately!"
"Li Hao" patted "Bai Yujing's" shoulder, then followed the group as they pushed their way out along the original path, leaving "Bai Yujing" alone in the underground water world filled with various colors of light.
"Are you afraid I will harm them? If I had that intention, they wouldn't be able to leave here," "Man" said to "Bai Yujing."
"Bai Yujing" nodded. "But since you're only communicating with me, it means you need help, and the person you've chosen is me, right?"
"Man" was silent for a moment. "You're right; I need your help, and only you can assist me."
"Why choose me?" "Bai Yujing" asked.
"Do you believe in fate?"
"What?"
"Bai Yujing's" question also represented his attitude, but "Man" continued, "We all believe in fate. Every Atlantian possesses a spiritual essence; we can achieve immortality and control the world, yet we ultimately face extinction. That is fate. I see hope in you."
"Bai Yujing" didn't quite understand such philosophical and ethereal reasoning and could only continue moving forward. He had to admit that this area was vast; this palace resembled a hall of gods or giants.
Bai Yujing wandered through the massive temple like a Mudfish, eventually arriving at the central location where he saw an entity named Man.
In the center of the palace was a pool, constructed of stone, from which bubbles continuously emerged. Above this pool, the largest gem radiated the brightest light, illuminating the bubbles in a hazy and dreamlike manner. Bai Yujing seemed to see different scenes through the bubbles, which appeared and vanished with their formation and bursting.
Beside the pool lay a beautiful woman with long blue hair, seemingly asleep as she leaned against a stone. A two-meter-long fish tail was elegantly placed in the water, its translucent black scales reflecting a faint glow, exuding an unusual beauty.
In addition, Bai Yujing noticed scattered white bones on the ground, with small fish darting among these remains, nibbling at them. The area was filled with such remnants, many already submerged or scattered by various plants and water currents.
These bones held weapons like fish spears and long poles, now decayed into mere skeletons at the bottom, reduced to food for the fish. One could sense that a fierce battle had undoubtedly taken place here in the past.
"You are not wrong; these are the villagers of this village—a group of desiccated bones yearning for immortality, poor souls controlled by desire," Man said quietly to Bai Yujing, her tone devoid of any emotion.
Bai Yujing curiously asked, "Don't you hate them?"
Man chuckled lightly, "I did hate them once, but after that, I found it utterly meaningless!"
"I don't quite understand your thoughts."
"The longer you live, the more you will understand."
Bai Yujing approached the edge of the pool and noticed a large hole in Man's chest. Her lifelike face remained serene with closed eyes. Suddenly, Bai Yujing's expression changed drastically as he felt an icy chill throughout his body.
This Man was already dead.
