If Jian Yunong said this, Huo's mother would definitely not believe it. Everyone knows how much Huo Jincheng liked that actress before, and now his son is saying it himself. Huo's mother had nothing to say.
"Ahem... Well, isn't she already pregnant? Don't bully her!"
The change in tone was too sudden; Jian Yunong was a bit taken aback.
However, why did Huo Jincheng say it was him who bit her? That sounded strange.
"Go pour a cup of tea for Mom."
Huo Jincheng ordered Jian Yunong.
Last night, Huo Jincheng's sister-in-law came over, and this time Jian Yunong knew how to brew tea.
Huo's mother waited until she saw her figure disappear around the corner before asking Huo Jincheng, "Is it confirmed that there’s a baby in her belly?"
"The result from Le Yi Hospital."
Huo's mother nodded in relief. Le Yi is her adopted daughter, so this result must be accurate.
"What’s going on? What a coincidence! It just happens to be your betrothed partner, and now she's pregnant..."
Huo Jincheng rubbed his nose and replied awkwardly, "I drank too much."
So it was an accidental encounter.
Huo's mother stared at her son, her gaze piercing.
"Mom, you don't need to doubt her. I was drunk, I forced her, what more do you want me to say? That day I actually intended to tell her to cancel the engagement," Huo Jincheng explained impatiently.
His mother was probably going through menopause, insisting on dwelling on things that had already happened.
Huo's mother raised her eyebrows in anger, "How dare you! What were you doing behind our backs? As long as I'm here, I will absolutely not allow that actress to step through the door."
"You think she wants to come in?"
"You!"
Just as it seemed they were about to start arguing, Jian Yunong let out a sharp scream from the kitchen.
Huo Jincheng immediately rushed over to ask what was wrong, only to see her pitifully pointing at her leg, "Hot, hot..."
"How could you be so careless? You were just pouring tea and ended up burning yourself," Huo's mother couldn't help but scold. This daughter-in-law came from a mediocre family, and now she couldn't even handle such a small task. How could she take care of her husband?
Huo Jincheng quickly picked up Jian Yunong and took her to the bathroom, rinsing the burned area with cold water.
"We need to go to the hospital."
A blister had already formed on her leg.
Jian Yunong's eyes glistened with tears. "I'm afraid to go to the hospital."
Huo Jincheng didn't give her a chance to refuse and directly carried her to the car.
"Mom, you should go back first. I'll come see you another day."
"Call a private doctor. It's not like we don't have one at home."
"Mom." Huo Jincheng started the car. "When Grandpa and Grandma ask about it later, they'll be worried."
Mrs. Huo quickly waved her hand.
The car stopped at Maria Hospital.
Jian Yunong was about to push the door open and get out herself when Huo Jincheng had already walked around the front of the car and carried her out. As they walked in, doctors, nurses, and patients all cast glances at them.
Jian Yunong felt a bit embarrassed. "I can walk by myself. If people see us, they'll misunderstand."
Huo Jincheng's deep gaze looked ahead. "What misunderstanding? We are already husband and wife. What are you afraid of?"
Jian Yunong rolled her eyes. "President, have you lost your memory?"
Wasn't it agreed that they would keep their marriage a secret?
"Did we not agree that once we step out of the Civil Affairs Bureau, we would no longer recognize each other?"
Huo Jincheng paused, "Thank you for reminding me."
Jian Yunong saw a smile appear on his handsome face, and an eerie feeling crept up her back; he was actually going to throw her out! Jian Yunong could feel her body being pushed outward by him, and she was so scared that she immediately clung tightly to his neck.
"What? Are you not afraid of being seen now?"
Huo Jincheng said coldly.
"I’m injured; this is a special circumstance!"
Jian Yunong buried her head in his chest, smelling the pleasant scent of grass and wood on him, and gritted her teeth as she spoke.
Huo Jincheng took her to Le Yi's office. "You stay here for now." He turned and left.
On the desk lay a beautifully packaged envelope, half-opened. Jian Yunong did not intend to look but caught a glimpse. It was addressed to Ms. Le Yi, inviting her to attend the Internet Medicine Special Summit.
Yi Tou?
Isn't that Yi Nansheng's investment company?
Why would he send an invitation to his own wife in such an official manner? It felt as if they were strangers.
The office door was pushed open at that moment, and Jian Yunong immediately lowered her head to pretend to check her leg.
Le Yi rushed over to check Jian Yunong's leg, personally treating the burn and reminding her to avoid certain foods.
Jian Yunong nodded, "Thank you, Dr. Le."
"Don't call me Dr. Le; just use my name. Why be so formal? You're my sister-in-law," Le Yi said.
The sudden change in Le Yi made Jian Yunong feel a bit uncomfortable.
"Then why is your last name Le?" Jian Yunong asked curiously.
"Because I am the adopted daughter of the Huo Family." Le Yi poured a glass of water for Jian Yunong. "Is there anything else you're curious about?"
Le Yi's eyes were bright, as if she could see into a person's heart when she looked over.
Jian Yunong shook her head, took a small sip, and decided to leave.
"Wait a moment; my brother went to make a phone call. I'll call him in," Le Yi said, pressing down on Jian Yunong's shoulder with a strong attitude.
Huo Jincheng just returned and glanced at Jian Yunong's leg, noticing that the blister on top had already been popped. However, her skin was too delicate and fair, making any slight issue appear very glaring.
Huo Jincheng couldn't help but frown, "Is it really that simple to handle?"
Jian Yunong knew that doctors didn't like their medical skills to be questioned, so she quickly defended, "It's just a minor issue; Dr. Le handled it well."
Le Yi shrugged helplessly, "Bro, burns are treated this way. Or do you want to take her home and pamper her?"
"Then before..." Huo Jincheng suddenly paused, "We should prepare some emergency burn ointment."
Le Yi understood what he meant. In the past, when Bai Ru injured her leg, it would inevitably trouble Huo Jincheng, as if the whole world revolved around her. It wouldn't be as simple as just applying some ointment.
"I've had it ready for a long time. This is imported; applying it can effectively reduce the burning sensation on the skin. There's no need for other medications. Later, I'll get you a brand new first aid kit to keep at home."
Le Yi was a thoughtful sister who had considered everything for Huo Jincheng. Jian Yunong felt an increase in her fondness for Le Yi.
"Let's have dinner together later."
Le Yi took off her white coat and casually tossed everything on the table into the drawer and locked it, "We haven't had dinner together in a long time. Yi Nansheng will join us too."
Jian Yunong felt uneasy all over, "I think I'm not feeling well; why don't you two go eat?"
Le Yi's caring gaze fell on her, "Sister-in-law, where do you feel unwell? Let me take a look at you?"
Jian Yunong smiled awkwardly, almost forgetting that Le Yi was a doctor; using such an excuse was too easy to be seen through.
"It's my leg; you see, it's inconvenient for me to walk," Jian Yunong felt immensely grateful for being scalded.
"That's simple! My brother is here; why would you need to walk?" Le Yi sat down next to Jian Yunong. "Sister-in-law, you don't want to eat with me, do you? Do you dislike me? Are you blaming me for almost making you lose your child earlier? I only did that to push my brother a bit!"
With the conversation reaching this point, could Jian Yunong refuse?
The dining location was in a quiet courtyard.
From the outside, it didn't look like much, but once inside, it revealed a hidden paradise. The winding stream flowed beneath their feet, and along the glass path, colorful goldfish swayed as they moved.
A subtle fragrance wafted through the air.
Yi Nansheng stood by the small window on the second floor and saw Jian Yunong being carried in by Huo Jincheng from afar.
Le Yi had told him over the phone that they were having dinner together, and Huo Jincheng was coming too, but he hadn't mentioned that Jian Yunong would also be there.
Yi Nansheng couldn't articulate his feelings; he only knew that Jian Yunong had not looked for another boyfriend since then. There were those who pursued her, but she had turned them all down. He thought she couldn't forget him; even though Jian Yunong had rejected him back in A City, he believed she was just being reserved. Yet, she ended up pregnant before marriage and married into a wealthy family.
Yi Nansheng closed the small window directly.
During dinner, the seating arrangement was quite awkward. Jian Yunong was placed directly across from Yi Nansheng.
They grew up together as childhood friends and went to school together. In middle school, they were in different classes, so they could only see each other during meal times.
At that time, Jian Yunong was holding her lunchbox and intended to sit across from Yi Nansheng, but he pulled her to sit beside him. While eating, he would secretly hold her hand, even if it was awkwardly done with his unskilled left hand.
This continued for six years in middle school, and then they went to different universities. Just as graduation approached, Jian Yunong received the news that her childhood friend was breaking up with her and marrying someone else.
A faint mockery surged in Jian Yunong's eyes, while Yi Nansheng sat upright. However, Le Yi was eating with his left hand, probably holding Yi Nansheng's hand with his right.
"Sister-in-law, these dishes should suit your taste, right? Speaking of which, you are also from A City, and so is Yi Nansheng. You two are fellow townsfolk!" Le Yi's words made Jian Yunong's scalp tingle.
"Not very familiar," Jian Yunong blurted out without thinking.
Yi Nansheng put down his chopsticks and looked over with warm eyes, making Jian Yunong feel a chill.
Le Yi looked somewhat disappointed and turned to pick up a piece of stir-fried beef for Yi Nansheng, being considerate: "Your favorite dish."
This dish had once been Jian Yunong's favorite too.
"But sister-in-law, it's best if you don't eat beef," Le Yi said with a mischievous smile, his gaze falling on the corner of Jian Yunong's mouth, which was still red. "Mom told me about it. Brother, you really should be gentler with someone as delicate as her! You've even made her lip bleed."
Jian Yunong instinctively raised her hand to cover her lips; it was all Huo Jincheng's fault for coming up with such a ridiculous excuse! He could have just said she had bitten herself! She glanced at Huo Jincheng, and the reproachful look in her eyes appeared to outsiders as a shy expression.
