Lan Xue stopped sobbing upon hearing this, looking at Wei Yuan with disbelief. This made Wei Yuan start to doubt himself as well. However, since his cousin's textbook could be repaired, Gu Jing's Video Disk could be fixed, and the old books he recycled could be completely restored, there was no reason why Lan Xue's Amulet couldn't be repaired.
Clearly, in Lan Xue's view, many things could be repaired, but how could a paper item ever be restored to its original state? Even if the prominent creases were somehow glued back together, they would still be very noticeable. This was common knowledge. Yet, obtaining Wei Yuan's Ability was already an incredible feat; what else was impossible?
"Can it really be fixed?" Lan Xue asked in a genuinely childlike tone.
"In theory, I can. I'll take it back and give it a try!" Wei Yuan replied.
At that moment, Lan Xue felt as if she had grasped a lifeline, placing her last hope on Wei Yuan: "Really? You're not lying to me?"
Wei Yuan wasn't particularly skilled at charming girls, so he relied on the melodramatic love stories he had seen for inspiration. He took Lan Xue's hand and said, "Trust me, I won't lie to you."
This somewhat cheesy confession method clearly had some effect; at least Lan Xue was moved by his sincerity and felt reassured.
Why not fix it for her right then and there? Wei Yuan had felt that impulse before. On one hand, using his Repairing Ability so openly seemed too extravagant and unbelievable. On the other hand, while he couldn't fully understand the girl's heart, he did have some grasp of human psychology.
"Why don't you come by the store after school tomorrow to pick it up?"
By the time Wei Yuan said this, the two were already standing at the entrance of the Video Store, and Lan Xue had retrieved her bicycle. Although she still found it hard to believe, she could only place her last hope in Wei Yuan.
This was something Wei Yuan had considered as well. Although he liked Lan Xue, he only had a superficial understanding of her situation and certainly wasn't foolish enough to reveal his Ability to her or demonstrate it in front of her.
Additionally, he had studied human psychology; if he were to fix the keepsake left by her deceased parents all at once, it would undoubtedly please Lan Xue and win her favor. However, if he fixed it all at once, she wouldn't likely remember it as a significant event.
However, now that he has made amends with her, Wei Yuan can imagine that tonight Lan Xue will definitely be tossing and turning, unable to sleep, struggling with the conflict of whether to believe that she can repair the Amulet!
After school the next day, if she can get her hands on a newly repaired item, then Wei Yuan's favorability towards her will skyrocket. He even anticipates that Lan Xue might show some excited reactions because of this. For this, he has mentally prepared himself and maintained an absolute resilience!
After stopping his wild thoughts, Wei Yuan pulled down the door of the Video Store, sitting at the table and looking at the Amulet left by Lan Xue, he suddenly began to yawn. Last night in the attic, he was afraid that if he fell asleep, mice and cockroaches would come out and treat him as a midnight snack, so he had been unable to sleep all night...
At this moment, he just wanted to fix Lan Xue's Amulet as soon as possible so he could lay his head on the table and enjoy a good sleep. Driven by this impatience, Wei Yuan directed the Dark Ink-colored Mist in his mind to transform into transparency in his hands. Just as he was about to apply the Restorative Power to the Amulet wrapped in the Sachet, he discovered that for the first time, the Restorative Power was obstructed!
The Amulet in the Sachet was releasing an indistinguishable aura that made Wei Yuan feel refreshed. At the same time, it counteracted the transparent Restorative Power in his hands, continuously drawing out a Light Ink-Colored Mist from his mind. Wei Yuan began to feel a heat rising in his head!
This situation could not continue; otherwise, he would soon be exhausted. Wei Yuan understood this principle deep down.
However, it seemed that the Dark Ink-colored Mist in his mind had suddenly increased significantly. In the past, when repairing books and Video Disks, each time he used it, it only consumed and fused a small amount of Silver-gray Mist, resulting in a light ink color. But now, the Spiritual Energy released from the Sachet was stimulating his Restorative Power, causing it to output continuously. Before long, he felt that his body could hardly endure it.
Yet, Wei Yuan knew that every time these two mist forms of Restorative Power consumed and fused with each other, it was clear that the level of the Light Ink-Colored Mist was slightly higher; thus, it completely engulfed the Silver Gray. However, despite this, during a series of consumption and fusion processes, his brain could not handle it all at once, leading to urgent signals from his mind!
So, Wei Yuan simply cut off the output of the Restorative Power. Opening the Sachet, he saw that part of the Amulet had already begun to recover but was still not complete. Why did this particular Amulet, compared to those from Gu Jing, along with his recycled old books, contain so much more Spiritual Energy?
Given that Lan Xue lost her parents at three years old, one could deduce that this Amulet must have been sought after at least over a decade ago and may have undergone some ritual process; presumably, this is where its abundant Spiritual Energy originated!
This discovery also surprised Wei Yuan. It turned out that not all repairs were done in the same way. Understanding this layer allowed him to stop using the Restorative Power. Instead, he decided to reverse his approach and began to mobilize the Silver-gray Mist in his mind to absorb the Spiritual Energy contained within the Amulet in the Sachet.
In fact, this deduction by Wei Yuan proved correct. The Silver-gray Mist, which was his original form when he gained the ability to repair things, began to self-expand after absorbing the energy from the surface of the Amulet. Initially worried, he gradually observed that those misty substances started turning black and were gradually upgrading into a Dark Ink-colored Mist!
About a minute later, Wei Yuan slowly digested the Spiritual Energy on the Amulet as if he were savoring a meal. When he sensed that there was no more Spiritual Energy in the Sachet, he transformed the Light Ink-Colored Mist into his hand once again. This time, with a gentle swipe, he completed the task!
Opening the Sachet, Wei Yuan discovered that the Amulet had returned to its original state. He felt a wave of relief wash over him as his consciousness returned to his mind. He realized that after using Restorative Power and absorbing the Spiritual Energy from the Amulet, the situation in his Mist-like Space began to undergo a transformation!
The Silver-gray Mist, which had previously dominated his conscious space, was now being countered by the Dark Ink-colored Mist, which was neutralizing the growth of Spiritual Energy. As the absorbed Spiritual Energy consumed another type of mist, it gradually increased. Slowly, the two different colored energies began to balance out, and Wei Yuan observed through his consciousness that their quantities were now very close!
What changes would occur after this accidental transformation that resulted in such an increase of Dark Ink-colored Mist? Wei Yuan felt that his thoughts were clear and his mind was at ease, but his body seemed unable to withstand this transformation and became particularly weak. Whether this was good or bad, Wei Yuan himself was unsure!
