Lum Ming looked at the spicy hot pot that had somehow ended up in his hands, and suddenly, a thought flashed through his mind. Last night’s hot pot—what a strange piece of information. Wait a minute... So, where did Brother Ye go last night? Did he really go out alone in the middle of the night to eat the spicy hot pot he disliked the most?
After reaching this conclusion, he incredulously slapped his own face. Yes, he thought he might still be half-asleep. That was it; he hadn’t fully woken up yet, which was why such bizarre thoughts were swirling in his mind. He needed to sleep a little longer.
The sound of the room card scanning was the clearest noise at that moment. It was still early, and there was no one else in the corridor on this floor. He opened the door, and a faint scent of the hotel’s unique cleaning solution rushed over him, instantly releasing the fatigue hidden within him. Suddenly, he didn’t want to do anything but collapse onto the bed.
He fell onto the bed, pulled the covers over his head, and closed his eyes. In that white enclosed space, all he could hear was silence.
Was it too quiet? His sense of smell became particularly sensitive; more dominant than the scent of cleaning solution was the lingering spiciness from last night’s hot pot. He suddenly found it absurdly funny that he, someone who never liked spicy food, now reeked of it. The smell was overwhelming, and along with it came vivid memories from last night that burst forth uncontrollably. He tried to adjust his breathing to ignore it but quickly realized that was impossible. With no other choice, he surrendered to the idea of taking a shower.
After using body wash several times to rid himself of that jarring smell, he finally felt free enough to sleep without hindrance.
“Up so early?” Xu Yan arrived at the dining room and spotted Tongtong sitting by the window. Clearly, she had been there for a while; half of her meal was already gone.
“Uh-huh, I have something important to do today and need to be proactive,” she replied, her small eyes revealing an uncontainable hint of mystery.
“What important thing could warrant this outfit?” Xu Yan's curiosity was piqued by Tongtong's deliberately mysterious demeanor. He stared at her with a fork in hand, noticing her attire made her look like some paparazzi, especially with the expensive camera she had bought last time.
“Is there something you’re not telling us?” He pointed his fork at her. To be honest, Tongtong was the only girl among them and quite young; he couldn’t help but feel a bit concerned.
“Stop talking nonsense, Xu Yan Brother! I’m going to pursue my true love!” She said dramatically while forming a heart shape with her hands, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
“What? True love? When did you start dating? How come none of us knew?” He exclaimed in excitement, standing up from his seat so abruptly that even the server at the nearby buffet turned to look at them.
Tongtong felt a bit embarrassed and hurriedly pulled Xu Yan down to sit. "What kind of thinking is that? Just because someone you love has to be your boyfriend? The one I want to pursue is my idol. Idol, do you understand?"
"Idol? Isn't your idol Brother Ye? Who else could it be?"
"Brother Ye is someone I admire as a man, but I also have my own female idol, a graceful and enchanting fairy sister."
"Hmm? Who is it?" Curiosity sparked instantly.
"Well~ you must have heard of her. Our goddess, He Shuning. He Shuning, you must have heard of her, right? She has played so many classic roles." At that moment, Tongtong had a thousand words she wanted to share with Xu Yan and eagerly awaited his affirmative response.
Xu Yan seemed to genuinely ponder for a moment before giving a rather average reply, "Hmm, I've heard her name; it seems she has a good reputation." Seeing the girl across from him with an expectant look, still waiting for more, he really didn't know what else to say.
"But, you know, I usually don't watch dramas, so I only know her name but not what she looks like."
The girl across from him quickly began searching for beautiful photos of her idol on her phone.
Soon enough, Xu Yan saw a magnified promotional photo held up in front of him.
This was likely from an event—a close-up shot of the upper body. The person in the picture had shoulder-length, slightly curled black-brown hair with minimal adornments; only a fresh white tea flower decorated her ear. She wore a pure white gown, and perhaps due to the lighting, her eyes sparkled exceptionally bright, just as the books described—filled with the beauty of stars and the sea. The minimalist style was striking yet conveyed an air of cool elegance.
It was indeed eye-catching.
"How about it? Beautiful, right? Our sister—no one can resist her." Her tone was filled with utmost pride.
Xu Yan looked at her serious expression and couldn't help but laugh and nod repeatedly.
"So, you're going to chase a star today? Where are you going to chase them?" The little girl was really excited.
"According to reliable sources, my sister's flight to Lin City is today. We can make it in time to send her off!"
