It was early spring, several years into the war against the Celestial Demons, and Heifeng Mountain was waking up as usual under the warm sunlight after the harsh cold.
The high-ranking immortals from the Heavenly Court had launched several brutal attacks on the Demon Realm, and Demon Lord Moknanshan had achieved a few impressive victories. However, these grand news did not affect the fairies of Heifeng Mountain at all.
Perhaps Heifeng Mountain was simply too far from the front lines of the war; what troubled us most was how to fill our stomachs.
A flower of Heifeng Mountain, Tau Tiantian, swayed her slender waist and walked gracefully towards me. With a gentle flick of her handkerchief, she gazed at me with flirtatious eyes and said sweetly, "Wanwan, do you have some free time today? Could you help me go down to the city and buy some Osmanthus Cake from Liu's Pastry Shop?"
I wanted to give her a glare and ask why she couldn't go herself, but the talented and beautiful Tau Tiantian blinked her big watery eyes at me, gently tugging at my sleeve and shaking it lightly. "Wanwan, Old Turtle in the big pond told me that today is not a good day for me to go out. Please help me out, Wanwan."
I sighed helplessly, brushed her hand away gently, and said, "A true best friend is someone who would go through fire and water for you."
With that, I turned around and headed down the mountain.
Going down the mountain wasn't too much to ask.
After paying for the pastries at the shop and preparing to head back up, I suddenly saw someone crash down from the Tea House across the street with a loud bang.
A large crowd quickly gathered around, filled with shouts of anger and mockery. I stood on the outskirts and could practically hear the chaos unfolding inside—a fight against a fairy was something everyone could rally behind with righteous indignation.
I hurriedly placed the pastries into my cloth bag, then pushed my way through the crowd while elbowing people aside, muttering, "Excuse me, excuse me."
Finally squeezing my way in, I saw a frail Little Demon with deer ears being overwhelmed by fists and insults.
"Stop." Usually, I am a very reserved demon, rarely showing such a fierce demeanor to drive away the situation at Changban Slope in order to maintain the image of a lady.
But there are limits to what one can tolerate.
I dashed forward, crouched down, and struggled to lift him up. His body was limp, as if he had no strength at all, leaning against me.
I recognized his figure and appearance; I had seen him before at this Tea House. He was a clever and diligent young attendant, always quick on his feet and warm-hearted.
Today, for some unknown reason, he was exposed under the bright sun with his deer ears revealing his identity as a demon.
These people, with their hypocritical demeanor, are truly despicable. Just because he is a demon, they treat him this way.
"Dear villagers, this young brother is not new to working at the Tea House. He has never neglected anyone. Even as a demon, he is hardworking and dedicated. Why can't you all just let him be?"
I quickly shoved the steaming Osmanthus Cake into his hands and gently wiped the blood off his face with my sleeve, softly comforting him as I did so: "Don't be afraid; I'm here."
Suddenly, a flash caught my eye as a woman in colorful garments flipped through the air like a butterfly and landed gracefully in front of us.
Before I could react, she reached out and slapped the Little Deer Demon twice across the face.
"A demon can be struck by anyone."
She was incredibly beautiful, her smile exuding an extreme arrogance.
Little Deer Demon was so frightened that she quickly hid behind me, clutching the hem of my clothes tightly. I glanced at her and suddenly realized that it was she who had revealed the true nature of this young man.
"A fairy, if he only does good deeds and lives by his own hands, is a kind fairy. Some people, however, have hearts as venomous as snakes and scorpions; even if they wear a human disguise, they are worse than beasts."
After saying this, before she could react, I swiftly turned around and slapped her twice across the face.
I, Ai Wanwan, do not possess great skills, but I cannot stand injustice. I love to take action when I see wrongdoing. Since she had just bullied this Little Demon, I wanted her to experience it herself.
