Chapter 298: Endless Abyss
After bidding farewell to the Old Domain Master, Sun Zhe stayed in his residence for a few more days before leaving the Blade Domain once again. Before he departed, the Old Domain Master had informed him that the Demon Army would not descend within a year, giving him ample time to explore the Thunder God Altar in the Endless Abyss.
However, Sun Zhe's mood was not as relaxed as he had imagined. Although the demon race would not arrive for a year, the time left for him was still limited. He needed to quickly enhance his strength because there was someone far away who needed his protection. Additionally, there seemed to be a vendetta waiting for him to avenge on the Thunder Continent. Some promises made in the past must be fulfilled, so the time he had was still quite tight!
This time, Sun Zhe was not leaving alone; accompanying him were Nie Yuan, whom he used to call "Old Man," and the Great Monk, Blade Rage Jiyan. Although Sun Zhe was now the Sword Sovereign of the Blade Domain, he did not have the authority to command two Saint Level Pinnacle Blade Sovereigns as his subordinates. Nie Yuan and Martial Law were naturally following Sun Zhe on behalf of the Old Domain Master.
Looking at the young man ahead of him, whose figure seemed to dissipate like smoke, Nie Yuan's dark eyes flickered slightly. With his level of cultivation, he could easily perceive Sun Zhe's changes over these days. Although there was no significant increase in cultivation level, his flying speed had nearly doubled. Especially notable was the intense Sword Qi emanating from him; even Nie Yuan felt slightly inferior in comparison. Given Sun Zhe's current cultivation level, it was unlikely that he possessed such dense Sword Qi unless he had inherited memories from his previous life.
Although Nie Yuan was merely a Saint Level Pinnacle Blade Sovereign, one of his ancestors was a grand elder of the Blade Domain who had passed down the Bloodshadow Mad Blade to him. Therefore, Nie Yuan was aware of some hidden truths, such as the fact that the current Old Domain Master was nearing his end.
"Nie Yuan, you must protect the Sword Sovereign's safety at all costs, even if it means sacrificing your own life. This is an order from our ancestor!" The aged voice echoed in his mind; it was a message from his ancestor after he set off.
If the Old Domain Master were to fall, only Sun Zhe could take on the role of Lord of the Blade Domain. Thus, this time he needed to protect not just Sun Zhe but also the future Domain Lord of the Blade Domain and its entire future. As for why the Old Domain Master chose him and Martial Law for this task, he never considered.
Martial Law did not think as deeply as Nie Yuan did. Among the four members of Madness of Desire and Obsession, he had always been the most laid-back and carefree one. Because of this attitude, his strength was also the weakest among them—though "weak" only relative to the other three.
Nonetheless, Martial Law was still a Saint Level Pinnacle Cultivator and could naturally sense changes in Sun Zhe's aura. Looking at the figure in white ahead of him, memories of that proud figure in the Blade Pool resurfaced in his mind. A deep respect shone in his large dark eyes; no one knew that Martial Law admired not just the astute Old Domain Master but also that domineering and proud Sword Sovereign.
The three men each harbored their own thoughts as they traveled together in silence at an astonishing speed.
According to the Old Domain Master's instructions, the location marked on that map for the Thunder God Altar lay within the Endless Abyss. Sun Zhe had spent decades in Nine Continents during both his past and present lives but had never heard of this place called Endless Abyss because it was a forbidden area within Nine Continents.
Years ago, when demons suddenly descended upon Nine Continents, various clans were caught off guard and engaged in battle with them. Although the Demon Army was powerful, so were the clans of Nine Continents; both sides suffered heavy casualties with countless peak experts falling in this war. Ultimately, this battle formed what is now known as the Endless Abyss.
The formation of the Endless Abyss is caused by the countless deaths of powerful beings. It not only buries the bodies of peak experts from various races but also contains the terrifying power unleashed by those at the Ancestral God Level. The combined forces are capable of destroying the heavens, and the Endless Abyss is enveloped by a strange power.
Under this power's influence, beings above the Divine Realm cannot enter, while those below the Divine Realm face numerous dangers if they do. However, inside, apart from countless bizarre corpses and debris, there is nothing of value left. The numerous treasures known as Divine Weapons seem to have vanished without a trace. No one would risk entering a place that offers no corresponding benefits, so over time, it has become an unknown forbidden zone.
If it were anything ordinary, the Old Domain Master would never allow Sun Zhe to take such risks. There are no shortages of elixirs in the major factions of humanity like Blade Domain. However, the Thunder God Altar holds significance for Sun Zhe beyond mere elixirs; it contains the essence left behind by a deceased Thunder God, which is invaluable to a Thunder cultivator.
Sun Zhe is no longer the Sun Jian of years past. While Sun Jian wielded an Ancient Bell Blade back then, Sun Zhe now possesses three terrifying powers, each indispensable to him. Thus, the Old Domain Master sent Nie Yuan and Martial Law but did not stop Sun Zhe.
Of course, outsiders do not know how many elixirs are stored in Sun Zhe's Ethereal Ring. However, Nie Yuan and Martial Law noticed that Sun Zhe was fine and began to stuff things into him. The items they provided seemed to emit a fragrant aroma. As they flew along, Sun Zhe's spiritual energy showed no signs of depletion; instead, his cultivation seemed to be subtly improving.
The Endless Abyss does not lie above the Nine Continents Mainland but in an independent space above the Nine Continents. The entrance to this space is well concealed and has been sealed off by several major powers on the continent. Without a proper method, it would be nearly impossible to enter this forbidden area. However, Sun Zhe has already obtained a way to access the Endless Abyss from the Old Domain Master and thus has no worries in this regard.
"This is it! Let's rest here for a bit!"
After traveling for most of the day, Sun Zhe and his companions finally arrived at their destination—a very ordinary river. The water was crystal clear, allowing them to see fish occasionally leaping from the surface with splashes echoing around them. Looking around, there was nothing unusual about this place.
Upon hearing Sun Zhe's words, Nie Yuan and Martial Law did not ask further questions. Although flying had not consumed much spiritual energy, no one knew what dangers awaited them upon entering that Cursed Place. It was better to remain in peak condition; otherwise, if they lost their lives, they wouldn't know whom to blame. The saying "to die before achieving success" sounds good but few would genuinely want to experience it.
After about a stick of incense worth of time, all three regained their full strength. Sun Zhe stepped forward two paces and stood before them, gazing at the clear water with a focused expression.
"By my name, seal of the abyss formation, open!"
His cold voice echoed in their ears as Sun Zhe's hands moved rapidly, forming hundreds of hand seals in quick succession. He turned his body slightly, bent his legs, and pressed his right palm directly onto the ground. A violent Thunder Power surged toward the earth instantly, enveloping the entire river in countless bolts of Purple Lightning.
Suddenly, the color of the river began to change slowly. The originally clear and unpolluted water turned deep black in an instant, and a thick, eerie aura spread out, quickly enveloping the entire area. Countless rolling dark clouds immediately covered the sky, obscuring everything above.
There was no need for Sun Zhe and the others to make any moves; they simply felt the scenery before them shift. The once picturesque mountains and rivers had transformed into a desolate wasteland. Everything around them changed, as if they had entered another space. Looking at the river again, it was no longer the clear stream they remembered; in the blink of an eye, it had become a bizarre river swirling with white mist, countless bones floating on its surface, and a strong stench of decay hung over the entire land.
"This... this place is Wanbingyuan..."
With wide eyes, Sun Zhe stared at the scene before him, disbelief evident in his expression. This place was clearly Wanbingyuan in Xia County of Thunder Continent, where he had once obtained the Ancient Bell Blade. He still remembered how he and Takeda's group had teamed up here to seize a boat for crossing.
They had clearly entered Endless Abyss, so how could they end up here? The Old Domain Master had assured him that the location and method of entry were correct; Sun Zhe would never doubt the Old Domain Master even if he questioned himself. The only possibility was that Wanbingyuan was actually part of Endless Abyss.
No wonder Wanbingyuan had always been so mysterious; no wonder few people could enter its depths; no wonder treasures like Divine Weapons occasionally surfaced here. Sun Zhe suddenly understood everything, but what puzzled him was why his Ancient Bell Blade and Slaughtering Seven Styles would also appear here. Could it be that the Old Domain Master used this place to deliver those items to him? Sun Zhe couldn't be sure.
Nie Yuan had never been to Wanbingyuan, but having spent so much time in Thunder Continent, he had certainly heard of its name. Now seeing Sun Zhe's expression, his eyes couldn't help but flicker with alertness as he instinctively scanned their surroundings.
Among the three, only Martial Law appeared indifferent. He plunged his large blade into the ground and sat down casually, watching the two serious-faced companions with boredom while making some strange sounds with his mouth. His demeanor was quite... annoying!
