The Selection Trial at Thunder Temple in Linwu Prefecture is still three months away. The journey from Lingjia Village to Linwu Prefecture would originally take two months at Sun Zhe's previous speed. However, after learning the Flying Technique, this time has been greatly reduced to less than a month.
But Sun Zhe decided to visit a place before heading to Linwu Prefecture: Beifeng City in Xuan Yuan County, Xuan Prefecture.
If everything goes smoothly during his trip to Linwu Prefecture, he might be able to return directly to the Nine Continents Mainland. It is uncertain when he will return to Thunder Continent again, so there are some matters he wishes to resolve before leaving.
As for the Golden Thunder Sect, although Sun Zhe has grievances against them, their strength is too formidable. Going there now would be like hitting a stone with an egg. Unless he is completely confident, Sun Zhe, being cautious by nature, would not take such risks. However, he does not have the same reservations about the Xuan Lei Sect and Aohumen in Beifeng City.
The Guardian Elder of Golden Thunder Sect, Zhou Qi, and the leader of Aohumen, Ao Cheng, are both targets for Sun Zhe on this trip. He also wants to see several of his former companions from back then, such as Zhao Ang and Shen Yan. Their relationships were quite good at that time, and they shared a bond as fellow disciples. Perhaps there will be no opportunity to meet again in the future; if possible, Sun Zhe would still like to bid them farewell.
Stepping through the cold wind and flying high in the air, Sun Zhe's eyes were sharp as he scanned the ground below. Jingjing stood as always on his shoulder, surrounded by a purple aura that shielded it from the gusts of wind.
"Here we are!"
After a while, Sun Zhe's gaze focused sharply on a vast plain ahead where a massive city emerged into view, resembling a colossal structure sitting on flat ground. From afar, it looked grand and magnificent.
Beifeng City.
The three stone-carved characters on the city wall were extremely conspicuous; even from a distance, they could be seen clearly. This was precisely Sun Zhe's destination.
With a flash of purple light, half of Void passed like a long rainbow as Sun Zhe descended swiftly. Relying on the strength of Thunder Body, he showed no signs of fatigue despite his hurried journey; his face was not flushed nor was he out of breath, as if nothing had happened. After adjusting his slightly disheveled clothing, Sun Zhe stepped into Beifeng City.
Unlike Twin Lion City that Sun Zhe had visited before, Beifeng City is primarily controlled by three major sects. The city lord is merely a figurehead, and the so-called City Guard mostly just eats their fill without doing much work. On the thick city walls stood only a few dozen poorly dressed soldiers; some didn't even carry weapons and appeared lethargic.
In front of the city gate stood a dozen well-dressed soldiers with excellent armor and weapons. However, these individuals were merely collecting entrance fees at the gate. They were somewhat clever; any noble or esteemed cultivator was exempt from fees while charges were imposed solely on ordinary citizens and passing merchants.
But none of this affected Sun Zhe. With his current strength, not only could he handle these few dozen soldiers easily, but even if all the City Guards in Beifeng City came at him together, they would not pose any threat. Sometimes having more people does not necessarily mean having greater power.
"Stop right there. Don't you know the rules of Beifeng City?"
Sun Zhe didn't provoke them, but that didn't mean these people understood his strength. As they watched Sun Zhe walk over nonchalantly, a soldier on the left suddenly turned cold and shouted at him.
It wasn't entirely his fault; Sun Zhe was currently dressed in a white robe, looking every bit the scholar, as if he were carrying a book bag on his back. Such a defenseless scholar was precisely the kind of target these rough soldiers loved to bully.
"I remember there weren't any such rules in Beifeng City two years ago..." Sun Zhe stopped, glanced at the man, and spoke slowly.
Sun Zhe's calmness caught the soldier off guard. If it had been an ordinary scholar being yelled at like that, they would either argue back or be startled. However, someone like Sun Zhe, whose expression didn't change at all, was quite rare.
The soldier clearly wasn't new to this job; he had enough discernment to notice Sun Zhe's extraordinary demeanor immediately. But with so many people watching, he couldn't take back what he had already said.
"This is a decree issued by the new city lord. The city walls have fallen into disrepair and naturally need funds for repairs. It won't be much; just ten coins from you will suffice."
"A new city lord?"
Sun Zhe frowned slightly, surprised to learn that Beifeng City had changed its lord again. He just didn't know which faction this new lord belonged to. Although there had been a change in leadership, this lord was likely still from one of the three major sects. However, the situation in Beifeng City might have changed as well, especially since Xuan Lei Sect had allied with Golden Thunder Sect, making it easy to control a city.
"It seems I don't have any money on me."
Looking at the stern-faced soldier, Sun Zhe smiled slightly, spread his hands, and spoke with a hint of helplessness.
"You!"
The soldier's eyes widened in disbelief; he never expected Sun Zhe would respond like that. He had already explained things so well. If Sun Zhe had been sensible and handed over ten coins obediently, there wouldn't have been any issue. But now he was surprised by the refusal.
"Alright, I'm not joking with you anymore. I have some matters to attend to."
The corners of Sun Zhe's mouth curved slightly, and a glimmer flashed in his eyes. In the astonished gaze of the soldier, his figure suddenly darted forward. An illusory silhouette flickered and vanished, and after he disappeared for a moment, the afterimage left behind slowly dissipated, but Sun Zhe himself had already vanished without a trace.
Among the dozens present, not a single person could see how he had left. Especially the soldier who had just tried to stop Sun Zhe; a cold sweat trickled down his forehead. Even he, no matter how foolish, understood that the young man in white was undoubtedly a highly respected Cultivator.
Strolling through the streets of Beifeng City and listening to the bustling sounds of vendors, Sun Zhe's face revealed a hint of nostalgia.
Beifeng City was the first city he entered upon arriving at Thunder Continent. Compared to the unfamiliar Twin Lion City, he felt a stronger connection to Beifeng City. Aside from the more than ten years he spent as a servant in Zhang Manor, he also stayed at Xuan Lei Sect for over a year, making him quite familiar with Beifeng City.
"Everything here seems unchanged..."
Looking around at the streets, Sun Zhe couldn't help but murmur to himself. However, upon reflection, he realized he had only been away for a few years; it was unlikely there would be any significant changes.
With a self-deprecating smile, Sun Zhe shook his head helplessly, feeling somewhat perplexed by this sudden thought.
Yet, after taking just a few steps, as he surveyed his surroundings, a figure suddenly caught his eye. In an instant, Sun Zhe's footsteps involuntarily paused, and a brief look of astonishment appeared in his eyes.
He never expected to encounter an old acquaintance right after entering Beifeng City.
