Several days later, Sun Zhe's figure appeared within Xia County.
According to the method of the Gray-Clad Old Woman before her death, Han Li and several others from the Golden Thunder Sect had already arrived in Xia County to carry out the sect's secret orders. Sun Zhe wanted to find out the enemies responsible for the destruction of the Sun Family, so he hurriedly followed them here. Of course, Sun Zhe could have directly stormed the Golden Thunder Sect's mountain gate to question them, but unfortunately, he did not yet possess that level of strength; going there would only be seeking his own death.
Han Li and the others probably never expected that the very person they were determined to capture, Sun Zhe, was now right behind them. If they had known, they would surely have waited for Sun Zhe to come find them. However, all the disciples of the Golden Thunder Sect left in Twin Lion City had been silenced, and Han Li and his companions had no way of knowing Sun Zhe's movements.
Sun Zhe's purpose for this trip was simply to capture Han Li and force him to reveal the murderer who destroyed the Sun Family. Naturally, he would not boldly approach their door; even if his strength had increased dramatically, he was still not at a level where he could face two Thunder Lord Stage experts at once. Given his current strength, a sneak attack was the best choice.
Looking around at the bustling streets filled with hurried carriages and pedestrians, a hint of bitterness appeared on Sun Zhe's face. It would have been better if he were in Duyun, as he was born there; however, he was not very familiar with Xia County. It would be a stroke of luck if he could find Han Li's whereabouts without getting lost himself. Just then, his attention was suddenly drawn to four large characters ahead, and a plan began to form in his mind, causing a flicker of joy to appear on his face.
Heroic Tavern
If he wanted to gather information, a tavern was naturally the best place to go. Taverns were filled with people from all walks of life; it was much better to seek out some news there than to search aimlessly without direction.
"Ah, welcome! How many guests do we have?" As Sun Zhe approached the tavern, two attendants immediately came forward with smiles on their faces.
"One," Sun Zhe replied succinctly.
"Great! Please take a seat by the window; it's comfortable there... What would you like to order?" The attendants maintained their smiles as they led Sun Zhe to a seat next to the window.
"Just bring me a few signature dishes from your tavern and a jar of good Daughter Red," Sun Zhe said casually as he surveyed the crowd around him. Ever since he had last drunk with the old man, he had developed a liking for that flavor. However, he always drank moderately rather than excessively, so he had never gotten drunk and made mistakes.
"Alright! Please wait a moment; as soon as the food and drink are ready, we will bring them right over."
Moments later, everything that Sun Zhe requested was brought up. While eating and drinking, Sun Zhe slowly surveyed the crowd in the restaurant. This establishment was clearly of high quality, with most patrons being either wealthy or noble, while the rest were capable cultivators.
Cultivators were easily distinguishable from ordinary mortals; their spiritual aura was entirely different. Cultivators appeared vibrant, with their eyes often sparkling with brilliance, while ordinary people lacked such vitality. Therefore, it was not unusual for common folks to recognize a Cultivator. The two who had just been so polite to the plainly dressed Sun Zhe did so because they recognized his identity.
Sun Zhe's primary purpose for dining here was to gather information, but he quickly became disappointed. Although many conversations were happening in the restaurant, none of the topics pertained to what he wanted to know, especially regarding the whereabouts of the Golden Thunder Sect members. After gently downing the drink in his cup and setting it down, Sun Zhe's gaze unconsciously drifted forward.
"Is there really no place to sit in such a large restaurant? How do you run this place? Am I supposed to turn around and leave..." A young man pointed at the two with his right hand and placed his left hand on his hip, angrily reprimanding them.
However, this young man's attire was quite peculiar; he wore an extremely luxurious yellow brocade robe but had on a pair of worn-out black cloth shoes. The stark contrast gave him an odd appearance. If it weren't for his identity as a Cultivator, the bouncers in the restaurant would have likely thrown him out for causing a scene.
"Hey, brother, is there anyone sitting next to you?" Without waiting for a response from the two, the young man looked around and noticed that there was no one beside Sun Zhe. He immediately ran over and asked.
"No one; feel free to sit," Sun Zhe replied with a slight smile.
"Haha, I can tell you're a straightforward person! Then I won't be polite." As soon as Sun Zhe finished speaking, the young man eagerly sat down and picked up chopsticks to start eating without any hesitation.
Sun Zhe smiled slightly and remained silent, slowly sipping his drink. His purpose for being here wasn't just to eat; however, since he didn't speak, the young man took it upon himself to be even less polite and asked for a cup of wine from the two while continuing to eat and drink.
"Gulp... gulp... What's your name, brother? I'm Gao Shou. I grew up here in Xia County. Although I'm not particularly famous, most of the young experts around here have seen me before. You seem somewhat unfamiliar." After downing two cups of wine in quick succession and appearing somewhat satisfied, the young man finally looked up at Sun Zhe and asked.
"Expert?" Sun Zhe, who had been listening to other conversations, nearly spat out his drink upon hearing this young man's words. He turned his head and widened his eyes in surprise as he stared intently at the young man. He had never heard anyone refer to themselves as an expert before.
Hearing Sun Zhe's reaction, the young man showed a hint of embarrassment for the first time and explained with a smile, "It's Gao Shou—'Gao' means 'first,' not 'hand.' Don't get it wrong."
Putting down the wine cup in his hand, Sun Zhe revealed a hint of relief in his eyes. It was understandable that Gao Shou was familiar with the situation, but upon hearing Gao Shou's self-introduction, Sun Zhe was surprised to learn that Gao Shou was from Xia County and a local big shot. Sun Zhe's eyes lit up.
"I see, I must have misunderstood. My surname is Sun, and this is my first time in Xia County. From your tone, it seems you are quite familiar with the situation here?"
"Haha, I'm not bragging. I've been around here for over twenty years, and there aren't many things about Xia County that I, Gao Shou, don't know." After hearing Sun Zhe's words, Gao Shou immediately put down his chopsticks, rolled up his sleeves, and patted his chest while speaking loudly to Sun Zhe.
"In my opinion, Brother Sun must be here to seek treasure at Wanbingyuan, right?" After looking around cautiously, Gao Shou suddenly lowered his voice and quietly asked Sun Zhe.
Upon hearing this, Sun Zhe narrowed his eyes slightly, the light in them condensing as he smiled and asked softly, "How did you come to that conclusion?"
"Hehe, I can guess this much. Recently, there has been a Rare Treasure appearing at Wanbingyuan in Xia County. Experts from all over are rushing here, and even several major Sects nearby have sent their experts inside. With your cultivation level, Brother Sun, you probably came here on behalf of a Sect to explore a bit... Haha, no need to deny it; I won't tell anyone about this." In the end, Gao Shou patted Sun Zhe's shoulder and assured him confidently.
"Well then... thank you very much, Brother Gao."
Sun Zhe gently finished the wine in his cup, a hint of relaxed smile flashing across his face. He didn't expect things to resolve so easily.
