Shi Jin and Shi Xiu instinctively backed up against each other, startled when their backs touched, and exchanged a glance filled with unease.
The leader of the group scrutinized the two and coldly asked, "Which one of you is Shi Xiu?"
Shi Jin was taken aback. Shi Xiu? He turned to look and saw that although the young man’s face was youthful, his brows and eyes bore a resemblance to the determined figure from his dreams.
The young man looked tense but replied, "I am he. What do you want?"
This caused a strong ripple of emotions in Shi Jin, as he hadn't expected to meet his brother in such a manner.
The Yard Officer shot a cold glance at Shi Xiu and retorted, "What is your relationship with Shi Dazuo?"
"My uncle. Are you looking for him?" Shi Xiu replied, suppressing his anger.
The Yard Officer coldly stated, "You and your uncle have done quite a big thing!"
After saying this, he turned to Shi Jin and asked, "Who are you?"
Shi Jin, having calmed down from his surprise, thought for a moment and slightly cupped his fist, saying, "I am Shi Jin from The Su's Mansion."
The Yard Officer was taken aback by this response. At that moment, a subordinate approached and whispered something to him. The Yard Officer's expression changed slightly, then he forced a smile.
He clasped his hands together and said, "So it is Young Master Shi from Scholar Su's residence. My apologies."
Shi Jin returned the gesture and smiled faintly, saying, "No need for that. But may I ask why the officer has come?"
The Yard Officer's expression turned serious as he focused on Shi Xiu, saying coldly, "A few people were killed due to a trivial matter; I am here to apprehend this person."
Both Shi Jin and Shi Xiu were shocked by this revelation.
Shi Xiu exclaimed urgently, "When did I kill anyone? Don't wrongfully accuse me!"

Shi Xiu shook his head and said, "I don't know him."
The Yard Officer continued questioning, "Did you have an argument with someone over selling horses the other day?"
Shi Xiu, taken aback, instinctively nodded and frowned as he said, "Was it that dark-skinned fat guy?"
The Yard Officer confirmed, "That person is indeed Gao Qiu. Now tell me, how did you kill him?"
Shi Xiu, wide-eyed, shouted, "He’s dead? I didn’t do it! That group was forcing me to sell; they injured my uncle! I was planning to settle the score with him today!"
The Yard Officer scolded back, "Look at you! You just admitted that you were going to settle the score with him; it must mean you harbored resentment and took advantage of his injury to harm those people." He glanced at Shi Jin.
Shi Xiu, furious, retorted, "I didn’t! You’re framing me!"
In his heart, Shi Jin realized that the Yard Officer clearly knew about his violent confrontation with Gao Qiu, but refrained from mentioning it due to his background. He hadn’t expected that it was actually Shi Xiu and his uncle who had clashed with Gao Qiu. Judging by Shi Xiu’s demeanor, it was evident they were not responsible for killing him. This made him furrow his brow in concern.
The Yard Officer grew impatient and shouted, " young master Shi, step aside! We will take down this killer!"
Hearing this, Shi Xiu instinctively took a step back and reached for the short knife at his waist. However, the officer in front of him made him hesitate. The young man was rebellious and unwilling to be captured so easily.
The Yard Officers had long been watching with keen eyes. Seeing this, they shouted angrily and brandished their weapons. At that moment, a figure flashed forward, shouting, "Ruffian! Do you dare resist arrest?"
The Yard Officers focused their attention and were taken aback to see it was Shi Jin. The leading Yard Officer opened his mouth, surprised that this guy had stolen his line.
Shi Jin's charge blocked the way for everyone, forcing the Yard Officers to stop. Shi Xiu was furious beyond measure. He had been simmering with anger over his uncle being beaten and being wrongfully accused of murder. Now seeing Shi Jin adding insult to injury, he couldn't help but shout in rage, "You dog thief are too much! I will fight you!"
As he spoke, he tightened his grip on the knife and was about to draw it for a fight. However, as soon as he pulled it out a little, Shi Jin kicked it back.
Shi Jin was relentless; with three fingers curled into a hook, he extended his arm to strike like a storm, forcing Shi Xiu to retreat repeatedly in a sorry state.
Shi Xiu was horrified; he thought he was on par with this kid, but it turned out Shi Jin hadn't been serious before. Despite knowing he was outmatched, his fierce temperament made him grit his teeth and hold his ground.
At that moment, he heard a low whisper: "Retreat into the house and escape through the back door!"
Startled, he saw Shi Jin give him a look. Although he didn't understand why Shi Jin was helping him, there was no time to think further. Taking advantage of Shi Jin's offensive moves, he retreated into a door behind him.
Shi Jin chased right in but stumbled as he entered, exclaiming "Ouch!" and leaning sideways to block the doorway.
The Yard Officers saw that Shi Jin had the upper hand but were caught off guard by this unexpected turn of events. They rushed forward but were blocked by Shi Jin at the entrance.
By the time Shi Jin moved aside for them to enter the courtyard, Shi Xiu had already vanished without a trace.
The Yard Officers did not suspect that Shi Jin had let him go; after all, they had seen the two fighting earlier and assumed the young man had gotten careless in his eagerness for glory. They hurried out through the back door in pursuit.
Although Shi Jin was somewhat worried about whether Shi Xiu could escape, there was nothing more he could do at this point.
Just then, he turned around and spotted a familiar face in the crowd of onlookers.
Shi Jin's eyes lit up as he quickly approached. "Master Wang, what brings you here?"
The person was Wang Jin.
Wang Jin nodded with a smile and said, "I felt uneasy after your generous gift yesterday, so I came today to pay my respects."
Shi Jin was somewhat taken aback; Wang Jin had been distant yesterday but seemed warm today.
He hurriedly said, "Master Wang, you are too polite. Old Madam is unwell, and I should have personally visited the manor to pay my respects. However, I am still recovering from this cold and fear that my illness might worsen, so I can only send some items as a token of my sincerity."

So he set out early the next morning to inquire about Shi Jin. When he heard from a servant that Shi Jin had gone to the market, he made his way there.
As he arrived, he happened to see Shi Jin cornering Shi Xiu in the courtyard. He could tell that Shi Jin's fall was feigned while blocking someone was genuine; although he did not know the reason behind it, he chose not to expose it for now.
Shi Jin invited Wang Jin to visit his manor this time without any refusal from Wang Jin. Shi Jin helped Wang Jin onto the carriage just as he was about to board.
Li Shishi said, "Young Master, that..." pointing at Shi Xiu's cart.
Shi Jin looked over and saw that the Badger was still tied up on the cart. He slapped his forehead; he had forgotten about this matter. Shi Xiu had fled in such a hurry that this item naturally hadn't been taken away.
Shi Jin walked over, untied the Badger, and tossed it onto the carriage—considering it a reward for saving him.
