The Peculiar War God of the Song Dynasty
In the middle of the night, Xiao Xiao was sound asleep, breathing softly. She looked truly beautiful, with her arms tightly wrapped around herself.
Qin Feng gently lowered her arms again; this had happened several times, and she always slept like this.
He still couldn't fall asleep, feeling that something would happen tonight. The silence was somewhat frightening; he couldn't even hear the sounds of wild beasts.
He lay in the warm bedding, feeling the warmth and her soft body beside him.
Meanwhile, dozens of meters away from the tent, hundreds of people were lying in wait, ready to fight to the death! They were the local bandits.
They hated Soldiers and knew that these Soldiers must be carrying some Silver and food. It was much better than robbing civilians; it was a chance for both fame and fortune!
In some areas, the Soldiers were quite greedy and corrupt, imposing high Land Taxes that forced farmers to have no food to eat and no crops to plant, leading them to become bandits.
Of course, by killing those corrupt officials, they not only gained money but also earned the respect of the local people, which would attract even more followers.
A tall man wearing a fur coat, weighing over a hundred pounds and standing nearly six feet three inches tall, exuded an air of strength and leadership!
Several capable assistants accompanied him, and behind them were over a hundred bandits armed with weapons!
A man dressed in coarse cloth looked to be in his thirties. His skin was dark yellow, and he had large yellow teeth; he looked like a Dealer. A simple smile appeared on his face.
He said, "Datian Brother, we have been waiting here for half an hour. When will we strike? I really want to take down these Corrupt Officials who only know how to plunder the people's wealth. Each of those bundles must be stuffed full."
The burly men nearby also had rough faces. Upon hearing about the stuffed bundles, they revealed greedy expressions, their weapons itching for action.
Chen Datian was also a man in his thirties but was tall and strong. Originally just a farmer, he could no longer afford the Land Tax! This autumn had brought a severe drought, resulting in a total crop failure; he had no choice but to rebel and become a bandit.
With his strength and after several successful raids against oppressive Soldiers, he had been pushed into a leadership position, leading them to barely fill their stomachs.
He was also a person who was rough yet meticulous, always observing the situation before taking action.
Looking at a frail man beside him, who was none other than the monkey-like Zhang San, he said, "Monkey, you’ve figured out the situation, right? The leader of the Soldiers is right in the middle of those tents, and they’re all carrying bags of valuables and food. There’s no mistake about it!"
Hanging at his waist was a Broadsword, which was twice as wide as an ordinary knife and required more strength to wield.
Zhang San, the monkey, chuckled and really looked like a skinny monkey.
"Datian Brother, you’ve asked three times already. I get it; the situation is clear. The leaders are in the middle, and they all have valuables and food enough for us to eat for half a month."
"Let’s act quickly and take care of those troublesome guys. There’s also a Stunning Beauty among them, apparently a concubine of a High Official. Perfect to capture for you, Datian Brother, as a wife. We need a beautiful woman to be our stronghold's lady, right, Brothers?"
The men in the Surroundings were all Dealers, drooling at the thought; it was their first time seeing such a beautiful woman.
Chen Datian had made up his mind; this beauty would definitely be his. He felt like a hero with so many people obeying him; it was only right that heroes should have beautiful women.
He recalled what the Village Elder had said: throughout history, heroes are paired with beauties! It seemed this beauty would surely be his, along with all those valuables and food.
He raised his right hand and then lowered it again, signaling the Brothers in the Surroundings that they could take action.
The hundreds of men slowly crawled toward their target. They were used to hiding well in the mountains while hunting rabbits.
After crawling several dozen meters, the Soldiers in the tents still hadn’t noticed them.
Then about twenty hunters armed with bows and arrows stood up slowly, aiming their weapons at the Soldiers guarding outside. Behind them was a basket full of arrows.
With a series of whooshing sounds from the arrows being released, they flew toward the guards outside.
A loud roar echoed from all directions as many men shouted: "Kill those dog Soldiers! Their valuables and food are ours! And that Great Beauty must not escape!"
The hands of those Soldiers were all holding torches; it was nighttime! Then the arrows flew over, some piercing their necks directly, while others penetrated their bodies. After a series of tragic screams, they fell down.
Those Bandits surprisingly ambushed from all sides and charged towards the White Tent, wielding Broadswords, long spears, and other weapons.
They were ruthless bandits who killed without blinking, daring to rob even Soldiers!
They were just farmers; although they had brute strength, they lacked intelligence. Usually, they robbed local idle Soldiers, but these were the Elite Guards of Tokyo City.
The Soldiers inside heard the screams from outside and realized something was wrong. When they stepped outside, they saw that the bandits had indeed come.
Not only were there Soldiers guarding the outermost tents, but there were also patrols continuously circling inside to prevent the bandits from sneaking in to kill and steal!
Some rushed forward with Broadswords towards the incoming bandits, having undergone rigorous training and not fearing these ruffians!
The rest banged on a Large Gong, its loud sound echoing outwards, quickly waking up the sleeping Soldiers.
Some even dashed into the tents to wake up the Soldiers inside. Indeed, bandits had come; they needed to grab their Broadswords and fight them off.
Soon, most of the Soldiers woke up and grabbed their Broadswords, charging towards the incoming bandits.
Qin Feng also heard the screams outside; he hadn’t been able to sleep well, sensing that something would happen. The bandits had really come.
Then the deafening sound of gongs reached him, making him even more alert.
He hurriedly woke up the still-sleeping Xiao Xiao. She looked at him drowsily and asked, "Husband, what’s wrong? Why is it so noisy outside? I haven’t slept well."
He replied, "There’s a large group of bandits breaking in. Xiao Xiao, stay hidden here; I’ll go deal with them and won’t let them get close to you." He picked up a Broadsword beside him and headed outside the tent.
Liu Xiaoxiao was startled awake by his words. She wanted to follow him out but upon hearing the many screams outside, she could only hide inside, too scared to go out.
Qin Feng stepped outside and found that there were already many bandits who had invaded the area outside the tents. Although they had not yet reached the center, there were likely over a hundred of them.
The soldiers were caught off guard and could not withstand such a large number of attackers, leading to a chaotic battle!
Some soldiers acted quickly, swinging their swords at a bandit's neck, slicing through his throat. Blood immediately sprayed everywhere, and the sword slipped from his hand as he collapsed to the ground, convulsing a few times before dying.
Then they charged towards more bandits! However, the number of bandits was truly overwhelming, and many soldiers had not yet arrived.
They were surrounded by the bandits, and after killing a few of them, they were brutally slain by a flurry of blades. The scene was horrific! They were covered in wounds, with several cuts on their faces, bloodied and battered.
Some bandits attacked in groups, which increased their chances of success while also raising the likelihood of injury.
Others chose to challenge individually, each picking up a broadsword and engaging in combat, attacking each other's bodies.
Most of the time, the elite Imperial Guards held the advantage. They had undergone formal training, which was quite rigorous, allowing them to injure the bandits before finishing them off with a decisive blow.
They charged towards other bandits who had nowhere to escape since they were surrounded on all sides. The only chance for survival was to fight desperately.
A few Imperial Guards could not match the strength of the bandits because those bandits were incredibly strong and tall. They could shake even a broadsword with their might, and one by one, they fell to the ground, slain by their opponents.
