Seeing the hesitation in the Toad Spirit, Qu Ningyu decided to use her charm.
"Toad Spirit! Wake up! Think about it, why is she being so nice to you? It's definitely to absorb your essence!" Qu Ningyu's voice carried a hint of seduction.
"The Snake Demon’s She Dan is a treasure! I've heard it can cure all ailments and prolong life!" Qu Ningyu continued, her eyes sparkling with greed.
The Toad Spirit trembled, looking at Su Wan'er with a mix of greed and uncertainty.
"Ning Yu, are you saying... She Dan can really heal?" The Toad Spirit's voice quivered slightly.
"Of course it's true! I heard it from Zhang Daohang; it can't be wrong!" Qu Ningyu asserted confidently, her heart secretly rejoicing.
"Su Wan'er, let me show you what it's like to have your She Dan taken by someone you love, to vent my hatred!" Qu Ningyu glared at Su Wan'er with malice.
Taking a deep breath as if making up his mind, the Toad Spirit picked up the sharp knife from the ground and stepped toward Su Wan'er.
"Toad Spirit! No! You'll regret this," Su Wan'er cried out, filled with disappointment as she realized there was nowhere left to retreat.
"Su Wan'er... I’m being forced..." The Toad Spirit's voice was barely audible.
He raised the knife and plunged it fiercely into Su Waner's abdomen.
"Ah!" Su Wan'er let out a piercing scream, her body shaking violently.
Blood stained her clothes and splattered across the Toad Spirit's hands.
"Dig it out! Quickly, get the She Dan!" Qu Ningyu urged from the side, her voice sharp and exhilarated.
Toad Spirit gritted his teeth and used a knife to slice a large gash in Su Wan'er's abdomen.
He reached in, feeling around the bloody, mangled wound.
"I found it!" Toad Spirit finally grasped a smooth, round bead and forcefully pulled it out.
"She Dan! This is She Dan!" Qu Ningyu snatched the She Dan from him, her eyes filled with greed.
Su Wan'er's body grew weak as she lay helplessly on the ground, blood continuously pouring from her wound.
Her gaze was hollow, her body devoid of strength as she collapsed.
"Burn her! Burn this monster alive!" Qu Ningyu pointed at Su Wan'er, speaking fiercely.
The villagers hurriedly lifted Su Wan'er and carried her to an open space at the village entrance, where they piled up dry wood into a massive bonfire.
They bound Su Wan'er to the pyre and doused her with kerosene.
"Toad Spirit, light the fire! End this monster's life with your own hands!" Qu Ningyu handed him a torch, a cruel smile on her face.
Toad Spirit took the torch, his hands trembling.
He looked at Su Wan'er tied to the pyre, her indifferent gaze filling him with fear.
"Su Wan'er... I'm sorry..." Toad Spirit's voice choked as he raised the torch and slowly brought it closer to the pyre.
The flames ignited instantly, their tongues greedily consuming the dry wood and engulfing Su Waner's body.
Su Wan'er closed her eyes in pain, two streams of tears sliding down her cheeks.
She felt the burning of the flames and the ebbing of her life.
“Toad Spirit, I have repaid my debt to you,” she silently thought.
The scorching flames seared Su Wan'er’s skin, and the intense pain made her sweat profusely.
“Is this really my end?” Su Wan'er thought bitterly, helplessly closing her eyes.
Just when she believed she was about to die, a dazzling white light suddenly descended from the sky, enveloping her entire body in an instant.
The light was warm and sacred, dispelling the heat of the flames and soothing her pain.
Su Wan'er opened her eyes in astonishment, discovering that she was slowly rising toward the sky.
The flames on her body had vanished, replaced by a radiant celestial garment.
“I... I have become an immortal?” Su Wan'er gazed at her hands in disbelief, feeling an unprecedented surge of powerful energy within her.
It turned out that everything Lin Yi had said was true; severing earthly ties was indeed the path to ascension!
