Inside the Aoxi Police Station, Xiao Li shook his head helplessly. "We’ve mediated three times already, but the other party just won’t cooperate. According to the procedure, we can only suggest you pursue legal action."
Old Jin sat stiffly on a hard chair, her arm still healing from the injury. "Legal action? What does that mean?"
"It means you need to sue him in court and let the court make a judgment," Xiao Li explained patiently. "That way, it can be enforced."
"I don’t understand any of this. How do I file a lawsuit?"
Xiao Li sighed. "You’ll need to hire a lawyer, prepare the necessary documents, and then file a case at the County Court."
"A lawyer?" Old Jin was taken aback. "How much will that cost?"
"Lawyer fees usually range from two to three thousand yuan, plus court fees and appraisal fees..." Xiao Li calculated, "Altogether, it’ll be at least three or four thousand."
Old Jin's face turned pale upon hearing this. As an elderly woman from the countryside, where would she get that much money? To fight for 650 yuan in medical expenses, she would first have to spend three or four thousand on a lawsuit—wasn’t that a losing deal?
"Then... what if I don’t sue?"
"Then you’ll just have to let it go," Xiao Li said, equally helpless. "Our police station has limited authority and cannot enforce anything."

"Family?" Old Jin trembled with anger. "Did he think of us as family when he was hitting me?"
"Mom..." Mu Fan stammered, unsure of what to say next.
"Mu Fan, are you really that afraid of your brother?"
Old Jin looked at her son-in-law with disappointment in her eyes. "He pushed your wife into the water, and you're still defending him?"
"Mom, I'm not defending him..." Mu Fan's face turned crimson. "I just think, even if we win the lawsuit, what difference will it make? He has no money, so we won't get any compensation. Instead, it will ruin our relationship, and how will we live in the village afterward?"
"Relationship?" Old Jin scoffed. "After what he did to us, what relationship is there to salvage?"
"Mom, you don't understand," Mu Fan sighed. "Right now, he's got nothing to lose."

Old Jin sneered, "You're doing what's best for your brother, not for everyone!"
With that, Old Jin stormed off, vowing to seek justice on her own.

She pushed open the gate of Wei Fan's home and walked straight in.
Wei Fan was lying in bed resting. Hearing footsteps, he frowned and came out.
"What are you doing here again?" Wei Fan asked impatiently.
