As soon as Su Yu stepped out of the tailor shop, he noticed a few girls hurriedly walking past him, chatting loudly. "Hurry up, hurry up! We have a set time; we can't be late!" Among these girls was Xu Bei, a classmate of Su Yu's.
Su Yu jokingly asked, "Xu Bei, where are you rushing off to? A blind date?"
"Ugh!" Xu Bei spat playfully and then excitedly said, "Su Yu, don’t you love listening to music? Come with us to the school gate! Today, our girls' dormitory invited a Wandering Singer to perform at school. That guy can really sing!"
Intrigued, Su Yu quickly inquired about the Wandering Singer. Xu Bei explained that yesterday, while shopping outside of school, several girls had spotted a long-haired Wandering Singer sitting on the sidewalk by the school gate, strumming his guitar and singing. His voice was clear and powerful, with high notes as pure as the sky over the plateau. The girls were immediately captivated and gathered around him, listening for half an hour and tossing all their spare change into a hat in front of him.
When the singer left, they invited him to come sing at the school today. Since the school didn’t allow Wandering Singers inside, they planned to meet him outside the gate and bring his instruments in separately.
Xu Bei sighed dreamily to herself, "That singer's voice is just like Qi Qin's—so penetrating! And he plays the guitar well; he's no worse than a professional singer."
"Oh?! Really? That sounds a bit exaggerated," Su Yu teased. "I bet you think he’s handsome and that's why you're infatuated!"
"Please!" one girl retorted. "When he was singing, his long hair covered his face. As soon as he finished singing, he put on a hat and bowed his head; we couldn't see what he looked like at all."
Another girl chimed in dreamily, "Hey, I just thought he seemed tall and really fit." Su Yu felt a surge of interest and decided to follow Xu Bei toward the school gate while Wang Xiaofeng clearly showed no interest in music and headed back to the dormitory.
Upon reaching the school gate, Xu Bei looked around anxiously but saw no sign of the long-haired Wandering Singer.
"Is he not coming?" Xu Bei muttered nervously after more than ten minutes. Just then, her phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID—it was an unfamiliar number. When she answered excitedly, she exclaimed, "It's the Wandering Singer!" He informed Xu Bei that he had already entered the school; perhaps the security guard thought he was a student and didn’t stop him.
"Where are you now?" Xu Bei asked. The Wandering Singer replied, "I'm in Boys' Dormitory Three, room 407." After hanging up, Xu Bei suddenly heard Su Yu burst into laughter.
"What are you laughing at?" Xu Bei asked.
Su Yu replied, "Do you know who lives in Room 407 of Boys' Dormitory Three?"
Su Yu also lived in Boys' Dormitory Three, where the fourth floor was occupied by senior male students from the Chinese department. Most of the seniors had gone out for internships, leaving only those preparing for graduate school still residing in the dormitory, making the entire floor nearly empty. Currently, only one boy lived in Room 407—Lin Yun. Lin Yun was a long-haired boy who had won the guitar competition during the school's arts festival.
