"Lightning?"
"Iron Man?"
"Captain America?"
"Spider-Man?"
"Superman?"
"Batman?"
I rubbed my eyes, doubting whether I was hallucinating.
What on earth was going on?
Was this some kind of post-apocalyptic cosplay contest?
I turned to look at Xie Hanshuang behind me and found her wearing a similarly bewildered expression.
It seemed I wasn't the only one losing my mind.
"Um... Ms. Lightning," I asked cautiously, "are you sure... you haven't mistaken the set?"
Lightning took off her sunglasses, revealing a pair of bright, piercing eyes, and said earnestly, "No, we're here to join you."
"But... your... outfits..." I gestured towards their bizarre costumes, struggling to find the right words.
"This... this is our... Team Uniform," Raiden explained. "Each of us has our own... code name."
"Team Uniform?" I twitched at the corner of my mouth. "Are you sure this isn't... cosplay?"
The Iron Man behind Raiden coughed and said, "Ahem, we... value... the sense of ceremony."
Sense of ceremony?
I almost laughed out loud.
What time is it, and they're talking about a sense of ceremony?
Honestly, if it weren't for the apocalypse, I would have given these guys an award for "Best Creativity."
But since they were willing to join us, I decided not to nitpick those details.
After all, in the end of the world, having one more person means one more strength, even if that strength seems... a bit childish.
I cleared my throat and said, "Welcome to our team! My name is Wei Na, and I'm the captain of this squad."
"Nice to meet you," Raiden said. "I'm Raiden, the captain of this Team."
"Team?" I was taken aback. "You guys... have a Team?"
I thought to myself, with just these few people, can they really form a Team? They can't be like the seven brothers from Calabash, can they?
"Of course," Raiden replied. "Our Team is... quite famous."
"Famous? I haven't heard of it. It can't be the 'Urban-Rural Junction Justice League,' can it?"
"We, Team... once... defeated... a giant... zombie," Lightning said proudly. "That zombie... was as tall as a three-story building!"
Three stories tall? I thought to myself, this zombie must be off to fight monsters! This bragging is getting out of hand.
However, I didn't call her out on it; after all, in the apocalypse, who doesn't have a bit of a talent for exaggeration? Let’s just say it adds some fun to the group.
"Alright," I said, "since everyone knows each other now, let's... get to work."
Following the outline from the online novel, I began discussing the layout plan for our new base with my new teammates.
I initially thought everyone would be serious about it, but I was mistaken.
These guys were more unreliable than I expected.
Everyone was talking over each other, and the scene was... utterly chaotic, resembling a bustling marketplace.
"I think... we should... build a swimming pool," Bikini Girl suggested. "That way... we can swim in it."
A swimming pool? I nearly spat out my drink. In this apocalypse, they're thinking about swimming? Do they want to enjoy a "virus hot spring bath" or something?
"I think... we should... build a movie theater," Spider-Man proposed. "That way... we can watch movies."
A movie theater? I felt like my brain was short-circuiting. What time is it? Are they planning to shoot a "Zombie Apocalypse Reality Show"?
"I think... we should... build an amusement park," Superman suggested. "That way... we can play."
Amusement park? I was utterly speechless. Is this a vacation in the apocalypse? Who knows, maybe in a couple of days, we’ll have to build an "End of Days Theme Park"!
At that moment, Zhong Dali suddenly stepped forward and said in a deep voice, "Boss, I think... we should... first... build a... toilet."
A toilet? I was taken aback for a moment, then it hit me. Of course! We don’t even have a toilet! That’s the most... important thing!
Compared to everything else, Dali’s suggestion was simply a moment of clarity!
I quickly said, "Dali is right! Let’s... first... build a... toilet!"
So, we began... to build the toilet.
No time to waste, everyone rolled up their sleeves. Those who could carry bricks did so, and those who could mix mud did that too; it was a scene full of enthusiasm.
Of course, except for those few "superheroes."
They seemed uninterested in such a "low-level task," standing aside and pointing fingers as if they were overseeing the operation.
During the process of building the toilet, Zhong Dali accidentally stepped on a... landmine.
"Boom!"
With a loud bang, Zhong Dali was blown away, dust flying everywhere; the scene became quite awkward.
"Dali!" I exclaimed and rushed over.
Fortunately, Zhong Dali was just... knocked out by the blast... and wasn’t in any life-threatening danger. His face was covered in dust, making him look like a... mud person.
I let out a sigh of relief, and then… I started to curse.
"Which… bastard… buried the landmine!" I shouted, "We almost… got blown up!"
At that moment, the mysterious girl walked over and calmly said, "It was me who buried it."
"You?" I was taken aback. "Why did you… bury a landmine?"
"To… prevent… the zombies… from invading," the mysterious girl explained. "It's a very… effective… defense measure."
A defense measure? I looked at Zhong Dali, who had been blown away, and felt utterly speechless. This… defense measure… was a bit too… effective, wasn’t it? It nearly wiped out our own people.
Just then, an alarm suddenly blared, its piercing sound shattering the silence of the ruins.
"What’s going on?" My heart tightened. "Could it be that… the zombies… are coming?"
"I'll go check," Xie Hanshuang said, then grabbed her sniper rifle and dashed out.
I quickly followed her outside.
Before us, a massive wave of zombies was surging toward our direction.
