As Xu Xin sang, she focused solely on Jiang Chen, her gaze deep and affectionate. When she finished her song, applause erupted from the audience.
"Beautiful lady, sing another one!" a group of young men at the nearest table cheered.
"I'm not singing anymore," Xu Xin replied, handing the microphone back to the resident singer as she stepped off the stage. However, the young men were not willing to let her go easily. Dressed like a character from an anime, Xu Xin was strikingly beautiful, catching the eye of these local ruffians who often prowled the area. They were known for approaching any attractive woman they spotted.
Usually, it was easy for them to strike up a conversation, given their decent looks and affluent backgrounds.
"Hey there, why not join us for a drink? Let's be friends," one of them suggested.
"I forgot to introduce you all; this is our Brother Long. All the bar owners in the area know him well," he added.
The leader of the group had a buzz cut, tattoos visible on his neck, and multiple piercings in his ears. He exuded a rebellious aura—this was Brother Long, a notorious figure in the area. Business owners in Houhai often gave him face; after all, no one wanted to cross someone with such a background.
Brother Long and his crew held significant sway in Houhai. Typically, even if a girl was reluctant to engage, fear of their influence would compel her to comply. Unfortunately for them, this time they had met their match.
Xu Xin was not easily intimidated, especially with Jiang Chen present as her support. With such a strong backing, there was no way she would fear Brother Long and his crew.
"This beautiful lady has no interest in drinking with you. Good dogs stay out of the way; move aside," Xu Xin coldly reprimanded.
"Oh? You've got quite the attitude," Brother Long smirked, his interest piqued further.
"In Houhai, it's rare for someone to refuse me like this. Join me for a drink today, and your tab will be on the house. Otherwise, don't blame me for being rude," he sneered.
Brother Long's underlings surrounded Xu Xin, blocking her escape.
"Those guys don’t look good; will Xu Xin be okay?" Chen Wenjing expressed concern. After all, Brother Long's crew were known troublemakers.
"Don't worry; my brother is here. If necessary, he'll step in," Jiang Lu said with a smile, showing no signs of worry. With her brother around, Jiang Lu felt there was no need for concern.
Brother Long and his gang were naturally drawn to beautiful women. The moment Xu Xin entered, they had taken notice of her.
These thugs were not foolish; they knew that many people in Beijing were beyond their reach. If some powerful second-generation rich kids came in with attractive women, even with a thousand times their courage, they wouldn’t dare approach them.
They felt emboldened to approach Xu Xin because they did not recognize Jiang Chen. They were familiar with most wealthy second-generation elites they couldn't afford to offend; Jiang Chen was unfamiliar and didn’t appear to be one of them.
Moreover, their backing today was Old Liang Si, who had also arrived. He watched as Liang Long flirted with a beautiful woman without intervening—standing by with an indifferent gaze as if signaling everyone not to disrupt his nephew's business.
Xu Xin remained calm throughout it all and smiled brightly when she saw Jiang Chen approaching her.
