After being brought back to the police station, Lin Xue sat calmly in her chair, her expression composed as if everything was within her expectations.
Faced with the rapid-fire questioning from the police, she answered each question clearly and without panic, her calm demeanor surprising everyone present.
However, when she heard Ye Qiu mention the Xuanming Sect, Lin Xue's gaze flickered slightly, but she quickly regained her composure and resolutely shook her head in denial. "Officer, I truly have no connection to Li Wenbo's death, and I don't know anyone from the Xuanming Sect."
Ye Qiu crossed his arms and sat firmly at the interrogation table, his sharp gaze locking onto Lin Xue as he mercilessly exposed her. "Lin Xue, stop pretending! We have solid evidence showing that you had contact with members of the Xuanming Sect in Yun City. Are you still going to deny it?"
Lin Xue's face paled for a moment, but in the blink of an eye, she restored her earlier calmness and forced herself to explain. "Yes, I did meet some people in Yun City, but it was purely normal business interactions. At that time, I had no idea they were members of the Xuanming Sect."
Hearing this, Ye Qiu couldn't help but snort coldly, a mocking smile appearing on his lips. "Oh? Just ordinary business dealings? Then may I ask, Miss Lin, what kind of significant business could a mere secretary like you possibly have with such a mysterious organization as the Xuanming Sect? Is there some hidden secret involved?"
Faced with Ye Qiu's questioning, Lin Xue bit her lip, seemingly struggling to think of how to respond.
After a moment, she lifted her head and replied firmly, "I've said it many times; I really don't know anything about this so-called Xuanming Sect or their connection to those people!"
Seeing Lin Xue remain so stubborn, Ye Qiu decided to temporarily shift away from that topic. He changed his line of questioning. "Alright then, let's not discuss the Xuanming Sect for now. Let's talk about Li Wenbo. What kind of special relationship do you have with him?"
"We only have an ordinary superior-subordinate relationship," Lin Xue said softly while slightly lowering her head and gently playing with her hair as if trying to mask her inner unease.
"Chairman Li has indeed treated me well; he appreciates my work abilities and has looked out for me in many ways."
"Oh? Is that really all there is to it? Just simple care?" Ye Qiu narrowed his eyes slightly, his gaze seeming to see through everything with suspicion.
"From what we know, Li Wenbo's interest in you is far more than just care! The connection between you two has likely long surpassed the boundaries of a normal superior-subordinate relationship."
Upon hearing this, Lin Xue fell silent instantly; her previously fair complexion gradually lost its color and appeared even paler.
She bit her lip tightly, unconsciously gripping the hem of her clothes but remained silent.
"Heh, it seems I've hit the nail on the head," Ye Qiu sneered before continuing. "Is it possible that Li Wenbo intends to marry you? Or has he promised you a substantial fortune?"
Faced with Ye Qiu's barrage of questions, Lin Xue's body began to tremble involuntarily; even her voice carried a noticeable quiver as she stammered, "I... I don't understand what you're talking about."
"Not sure? No matter, I will make you understand clearly," Ye Qiu said as he slowly stood up, striding with a steady and powerful gait directly towards Lin Xue.
When he reached her side, he stopped, looking down at her from a height, and coldly stated, "Do not think that your actions are flawless and without flaws; the truth is you are gravely mistaken.
Li Wenbo's death is inextricably linked to you, no matter how you try to deny it."
After finishing his words, Ye Qiu turned away expressionlessly and left the interrogation room with firm and swift steps. His figure gradually faded away, leaving Lin Xue sitting there, pale as paper and trembling slightly.
At that moment, Captain Zhao entered the interrogation room with a steady and powerful stride. His gaze first landed on Su Mu, and he asked with concern, "Doctor Su, do you have any new findings regarding this interrogation?"
Su Mu furrowed his brows, his expression grave as he nodded slowly. "This Lin Xue—I can assert that she definitely has major issues! From my observations and analysis, she has intricate ties to the mysterious Xuanming Sect. Even more shocking is that she may have cruelly killed Li Wenbo for some undisclosed purpose."
Hearing this, Captain Zhao's eyes sharpened further; he clenched his teeth and pressed on, "If that's the case, what actions should we take next?"
Ye Qiu paused for a moment, considering before responding, "For now, we need to continue investigating Lin Xue. We should start by examining her social connections, thoroughly mapping out her circle of acquaintances without overlooking any clues. We must uncover what significant matters she is hiding. Additionally, arrange for personnel to search her residence immediately in hopes of finding key evidence."
Without hesitation, Captain Zhao issued the order.
Before long, a well-trained police team swiftly arrived at Lin Xue's residence and began their search methodically. Their efforts were rewarded when they discovered a hidden room in Lin Xue's bedroom.
The room was dimly lit, filled with a mysterious and oppressive atmosphere.
Inside lay an assortment of bizarre items scattered haphazardly, sending chills down their spines.
Among them were several yellowed talismans adorned with obscure patterns and symbols drawn in blood-red cinnabar;
a few half-burned white candles flickered uncertainly as if they could extinguish at any moment;
but most striking was an eerily shaped doll.
The doll stood about thirty centimeters tall, dressed in a tattered dress stained with blood. Its hair was disheveled, obscuring much of its face.
Its eyes were hollow and lifeless but seemed to conceal a deep-seated resentment and malice.
"Captain Zhao, you need to take a look at what this is!" Captain Zhao said, his face filled with terror as he gingerly handed the doll to Ye Qiu.
Ye Qiu carefully accepted the doll, leaning in to examine it closely.
Her brow furrowed as she scrutinized every detail with sharp eyes. Suddenly, her expression turned grave, as if she had uncovered something truly horrifying.
"This is... a little ghost!" Ye Qiu whispered, her voice low and filled with shock and caution. "I can't believe that Lin Xue would actually worship such a sinister object.
It seems she is far more complicated than we imagined." After saying this, she gently placed the doll back where it belonged and fell into deep thought.
What could be Lin Xue's purpose in nurturing a little ghost?
Was it to gain some form of supernatural power?
Or had she been manipulated by someone else, leading her down this irreversible path?
A multitude of questions and concerns surged within everyone’s minds.
What kind of connection did she have with the Xuanming Sect?
And where would this case lead them next?
