The middle-aged Daoist pondered for a moment, seemingly organizing his thoughts, before he slowly spoke, his tone measured: “My Daoist name is Ling Mingzi. I should say, I am one of the last Daoists from Earth’s Cultivation Era. You must be aware of the matters regarding the Outer Star Secret Realm, right?”
“I know. I’ve heard that tens of thousands of years ago, the spiritual energy for cultivation on Earth was flourishing. However, later on, with the discovery of the Outer Star Secret Realm, cultivators migrated there. Some even took away the Earth’s Spiritual Veins, causing the spiritual energy on Earth to gradually diminish. Eventually, the passage between Earth and the Outer Star Secret Realm was closed,” Jiang Chen replied. He had learned these things from Shan Ba Mei during their last encounter.
“Indeed,” Ling Mingzi nodded, looking at Jiang Chen with newfound respect. Not many people on Earth today knew about events from so long ago.
Regaining his composure, Ling Mingzi continued: “I was born after the Earth’s Spiritual Veins were taken and the gate to the Outer Star Secret Realm was closed. I consider myself fortunate; although the Spiritual Veins were lost, the Spiritual Energy did not vanish immediately. I and others from my era managed to catch the last wave of Spiritual Energy and learned some cultivation techniques, achieving a modest level of success. Unfortunately, without the Spiritual Veins, Spiritual Energy could not regenerate. Over time, it has become increasingly scarce on Earth. After a hundred years, it can no longer support cultivation practices, leaving us stuck at a bottleneck for life without any further progress.”
Jiang Chen listened quietly, nodding slightly as he began to grasp more about Earth’s history from millennia ago.
Shan Ba Mei represented one era.
Ling Mingzi represented another.
“If there were ample Spiritual Energy on Earth, I could continue my cultivation. Not to say I would achieve immortality, but living for several thousand years would not be an issue. Sadly, without Spiritual Energy, all cultivation becomes futile. I can only age like a mortal. Sometimes I lament my bad luck; if I had been born a few hundred years earlier and followed the migration to the Outer Star Secret Realm, my achievements would surely have been greater. It wouldn’t be that I would die on Earth due to a lack of Spiritual Energy preventing me from cultivating.”
Ling Mingzi continued with a tone filled with regret.
“The gate between the Outer Star Secret Realm and Earth has been closed, but isn’t there still a way to open it?” Jiang Chen inquired.
“Ha! That was a grand formation set up by powerful beings. Even gathering six divine artifacts wouldn’t allow just any cultivator to open it. When there was still some Spiritual Energy left on Earth, no one was willing to take that risk. It wasn’t until the Spiritual Energy became scarce and Earth was no longer suitable for cultivation that some decided to venture out to collect artifacts and open the formation. After several years of effort, they finally gathered all six divine artifacts. However, the backlash from the formation was too great; those who attempted it either died or were severely injured. To be honest, I was present at that time as well; my luck was somewhat better—I was merely injured and did not lose my life. But that formation was so powerful that even now it sends shivers down my spine when I think of it. Since then, no one has dared to attempt to open that formation again,” Ling Mingzi recounted.
Hearing Ling Mingzi's words made Jiang Chen feel as though those who had originally set up the grand formation never intended for future generations to open the gate to the Outer Star Secret Realm.
Even Ling Mingzi's generation could not withstand the backlash from the formation; let alone those who came after them. By Jiang Chen's time, Earth's cultivation lineage had already been severed. Even if they gathered all six divine artifacts along with the Shuangyue Jade Pendant for protection, opening the gate to the Outer Star Secret Realm would still be impossible.
