Su Mu cautiously made his way down the dark and narrow passage, the air inside thick with a suffocating dampness that felt as if it could penetrate to the very marrow of his bones.
Water dripped like pearls from a broken string, cascading down the rock walls. Each drop struck the ground or the stones with a crisp, monotonous "tick-tock" sound.
This subtle yet alarmingly clear noise echoed endlessly in the deathly silent cave, resembling a demon's low chant, intensifying the already tense atmosphere.
After what felt like an eternity, roughly the time it takes to burn a stick of incense, the passage ahead suddenly opened up into a wide expanse.
Su Mu widened his eyes in disbelief at the sight before him—an incredibly spacious underground cavern had appeared. In the center of the cave stood an imposing and grand underground structure!
Countless bright lights hung from the ceiling, illuminating the entire space as if it were day; a cacophony of voices rose and fell, creating a lively scene. Clearly, this was the true heart of the mysterious Jingming Manor.
A jolt of surprise coursed through Su Mu's heart as he quickly darted into a shadowy corner, holding his breath and focusing intently on observing his surroundings.
At the entrance of the cavern, several burly guards wielding sharp weapons patrolled with serious and vigilant expressions, scanning for any signs of movement.
Faced with such tight security, Su Mu knew that forcing his way in was not wise; he needed to devise a foolproof plan to enter smoothly.
Thus, he remained hidden in the shadows, fully concentrating on every move made by the guards.
Before long, he keenly noticed an important detail: these guards rotated shifts at fixed intervals.
With this insight, Su Mu's mind sparked with a clever idea.
As soon as the guards prepared for their next rotation, he took a deep breath, his figure flickering as he unleashed his unparalleled lightness skill, darting silently into the depths of the cavern…
Inside the cavern, treasures piled high like mountains, and many people dressed in strange attire moved about, seemingly engaged in some sort of trade.
Su Mu observed that among the items being exchanged was a special herb known as "Yinming Grass."
Su Mu cautiously continued deeper into the shadows, the atmosphere around him growing increasingly oppressive and tense.
Finally, he arrived at a heavily guarded room. The closed door stood like an insurmountable barrier, firmly locking away the secrets within.
He crept closer to the door, carefully placing his eye against the crack, trying to glimpse what was happening inside.
Through the narrow gap, he saw a burly middle-aged man sitting in the room, his physique as imposing as a mountain. The man was tall and muscular, exuding a strong sense of pressure.
His face appeared dark and sinister, resembling a malevolent spirit in the night, sending chills down one's spine.
Without a doubt, this was the Master of Jingming Mountain Villa—Shangguan Yun.
At that moment, Shangguan Yun was seated with several subordinates, discussing important matters with serious expressions.
Su Mu quickly perked up his ears, fully concentrating on their conversation. He heard Shangguan Yun speak with evident dissatisfaction: “Why has the yield of the Nether Grass decreased recently? This is a vital source of income for our villa! We must find a new supply as soon as possible to ensure stability.”
One subordinate sitting nearby hurriedly replied respectfully, “Master, don’t worry. We have already dispatched people to search everywhere. I’m sure we will receive good news soon.” However, Shangguan Yun seemed unsatisfied with this response; he furrowed his brow, his eyes revealing a hint of anger.
Then Shangguan Yun continued, “There’s one more thing to pay special attention to. Recently, rumors have been circulating; as far as I know, the police seem to have begun noticing our activities. From now on, everyone must act with greater caution—there can be no negligence whatsoever, and we must not give them any opportunity to catch us!”
Hearing this, Su Mu's heart tightened.
He knew all too well that if he couldn’t gather enough evidence to expose the crimes of Jingming Mountain Villa quickly, once Shangguan Yun and his associates caught wind of it and took countermeasures, the consequences would be dire.
With this thought in mind, Su Mu clenched his fists tightly, determined to complete this daunting task no matter what.
He covered his mouth and nose tightly, fearing even the slightest sound might alert those inside. His eyes were sharp as an eagle's as he continued to observe the movements within the room intently.
Shangguan Yun had a ledger placed beside him, its pages yellowed with age, filled with a dense and orderly record of a series of complex transactions.
Su Mu's heart skipped a beat as he pondered, "If I can get my hands on this ledger, perhaps I can follow the clues and uncover the unspeakable criminal evidence of Jingming Manor!" Excitement surged within him, but he quickly calmed down, carefully surveying his surroundings and contemplating how to safely infiltrate the room.
The windows were tightly shut, with not a single gap in sight; the door was not only secured with a heavy iron lock but also appeared particularly thick and sturdy.
Given this situation, it was clear that forcing entry would not work; only clever tactics might yield success.
As Su Mu was deep in thought, he suddenly caught sight of a guard outside, patrolling back and forth with a long spear in hand, moving in an orderly fashion.
An idea sparked in Su Mu's mind, and he quickly devised a plan.
He stealthily approached the guard from behind. Taking advantage of the guard's unawareness, he swiftly drew a slender silver needle and accurately struck at the pressure point on the back of the guard's neck.
With a muffled grunt, the guard collapsed to the ground, unconscious.
Su Mu wasted no time; he deftly stripped off the guard's clothing and quickly donned it. Standing tall and puffing out his chest, he swaggered toward the room.
As he approached the door, he took a deep breath to steady his nerves before raising his right hand to gently knock on the door.
"Knock knock knock..." The crisp sound echoed through the silent corridor.
"Who?" came Shangguan Yun's deep and authoritative voice from inside.
Suppressing his nervousness, Su Mu lowered his voice intentionally to mimic the guard's tone and replied, "Master Zhuang, I have something to report."
After a moment, Shangguan Yun's cold response came from within: "Come in."
Su Mu pushed the door open and entered. Shangguan Yun looked up at him, a hint of confusion flashing in his eyes. "Aren't you the one guarding outside? What is it?"
Su Mu took a deep breath, trying to appear calm, but his slightly trembling hands betrayed his inner tension.
With a serious expression, he spoke, "Reporting to you, Master Zhuang, while I was ordered to patrol around the villa just now, I suddenly noticed several figures lurking near the vicinity, their movements suspicious. I felt this matter was of great importance and did not dare to delay even a moment, so I hurried to report to you."
Upon hearing this, Shangguan Yun's brows furrowed sharply as he asked in a deep voice, "Who exactly are they? Did you see their faces?"
Su Mu cautiously replied while subtly inching closer to Shangguan Yun. "Master Zhuang, it was too dark at that time for me to see clearly. However... based on my guess, these people are likely spies sent by the police, which is why I rushed here in alarm to warn you."
In that moment of contemplation from Shangguan Yun, Su Mu moved like lightning, swiftly advancing and striking at the vital points around Shangguan Yun's body. In an instant, Shangguan Yun felt a jolt throughout his body and found himself completely immobilized, shock and anger filling his eyes.
Seizing the opportunity, Su Mu dashed to the table and grabbed the crucial ledger. He then swiftly incapacitated several guards beside Shangguan Yun in the same manner.
After completing these actions, he quickly stuffed the ledger into his clothing and turned without hesitation to sprint towards the exit.
At this moment, Su Mu was acutely aware that his actions had alarmed the others; it was not safe to linger.
He retraced his steps along the route he had come, skillfully avoiding patrols along the way.
Finally, after an exhilarating escape, he successfully fled from the deep cave and vanished into the vast night.
Su Mu glanced back at the cave hidden behind the waterfall. He knew that his confrontation with Jingming Villa had only just begun...
