Lin Yu hummed a little tune as she walked into the office with a light and cheerful step, her mood as bright as the sun. It was as if the gossip and rumors from the celebration banquet yesterday were nothing but fleeting clouds, easily cast aside. She even took the time to tease herself while playfully interacting with her intelligent system, Inverse Light.
"Inverse Light, do you think these people are just bored? They have nothing better to do than to come up with nonsense. Can you believe they’re saying I’m dating Jiang Chen? That’s quite a stretch, isn’t it? Our relationship is as clear as day—cleaner than tofu! How can they concoct so many wild stories? I really admire their imagination!"
The voice of Inverse Light echoed in her mind, tinged with a hint of mockery. "Host, this just shows your irresistible charm! Everyone loves you, and even an ice-cold god like Jiang Chen can be melted by you—it's truly a miracle! If this were ancient times, you'd be like the enchanting Xi Shi or Diao Chan, whose every smile could spark a war between nations!"
Lin Yu rolled her eyes at this, exasperated. "Oh please, stop with the nonsense! Xi Shi and Diao Chan? I think you've read too many novels and are quite deluded. Just show me if there are any new tasks available; earning some points is what really matters. I don’t want to be some femme fatale; I just want to be a happy little rich lady!"
"Ding! A new task clue has been detected, Host. It seems your company isn't very peaceful lately; someone appears to be stirring up trouble behind the scenes, like an invisible hand manipulating events." Inverse Light's tone suddenly turned serious, as if it were an experienced detective reporting on a case.
Lin Yu furrowed her brow, her smile fading. She asked curiously, "Stirring up trouble? What kind of trouble? Is it malicious retaliation from competitors? Which company is so unscrupulous that they want to engage in unfair competition? Or is someone envious of our recent achievements and trying to sabotage us?"
"It's still unclear; the specifics are shrouded in mystery, like being enveloped in fog. Host will need to investigate further to uncover the truth and lift this veil of secrecy," Inverse Light replied cautiously, fully aware that this matter was serious and required careful handling.
Immediately, Lin Yu opened her computer and began reviewing the company's recent financial reports and project progress documents, hoping to find some clues. She meticulously examined every document, leaving no number or symbol overlooked.
However, everything appeared normal—there were no anomalies at all, like a calm lake without even a ripple. This only deepened Lin Yu's confusion; it felt as though some force was deliberately concealing the truth from her.
"Strange. Could it be my imagination? Why can’t I find anything? Inverse Light, can you help me look into this? You're supposed to be an all-powerful super system; this little task shouldn’t be too difficult for you!" Lin Yu felt somewhat helpless and turned to Inverse Light for assistance.
"Not a problem, Host! Leave it to me! This little task is a piece of cake!" Inverse Light replied confidently, sounding like a skilled hacker ready to put on an impressive show.
The system immediately activated its intelligence-gathering function and began searching for relevant information online, weaving through the web like a spider spinning its web, collecting data bit by bit. It navigated various websites, forums, and databases without missing any corner.
Soon enough, Inverse Light had new findings. Its voice returned with a note of gravity: "Host, I've found some negative news regarding your company's recent projects. These messages have spread rapidly online like a virus. It seems someone is deliberately disseminating them; there’s a hidden hand controlling everything."
Lin Yu's expression darkened as her gaze sharpened. She asked in a low voice, "Deliberately spreading rumors? It seems someone really is stirring up trouble behind the scenes. What could their purpose be? Do they want to bring my company down? Who is so sinister and cunning to come up with such self-destructive schemes?"
"Host, based on my analysis, the mastermind behind this may be connected to Jiang Chen; there seems to be some sort of link between them," Inverse Light offered an astonishing hypothesis that left Lin Yu stunned.
Lin Yu froze for a moment, her eyes widening in disbelief as she asked incredulously, "Jiang Chen? How could that be possible? Why would he do such a thing? Aren't we partners? What benefit would he gain from this? Has he lost his mind?"
"For now, it's just speculation based on existing information; Host will need to investigate further to confirm and uncover the truth," Inverse Light's voice remained calm as it reminded Lin Yu not to act impulsively but rather analyze the situation coolly.
Lin Yu fell into deep thought. Why would Jiang Chen do this? Was there an issue with their collaboration? Or did he have ulterior motives? What secrets was he hiding? A flurry of questions swirled in Lin Yu's mind, leaving her utterly perplexed.
She decided to investigate the matter personally, to uncover the mastermind behind it all and clear her name, as well as provide an explanation to the company. She could not sit idly by; she had to take the initiative and uncover the truth.
Lin Yu began to secretly investigate the employees within the company, hoping to find some clues. Like a private detective, she observed each person's words and actions closely. She noticed that some employees had been acting strangely lately; they often gathered in secretive huddles, whispering to one another, as if they were plotting something clandestine.
Determined to follow them, Lin Yu wanted to see what they were up to and reveal their true intentions. She trailed behind them silently, like an experienced agent, ensuring that they remained unaware of her presence.
One night, Lin Yu stealthily followed a few suspicious employees and discovered they had arrived at a secluded bar. This bar was hidden in a dimly lit alley, lacking even a sign at its entrance, making it appear very discreet—like a secret stronghold.
Lin Yu quietly entered and concealed herself in a corner to observe them, like a leopard lurking in the shadows, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. The dim lighting cast flickering shadows, and the loud music created an unsettling atmosphere.
She saw these individuals engaging in a secret transaction with a mysterious man. The man wore sunglasses and a hat, concealing his identity completely. Although she couldn't see his face clearly, Lin Yu felt that his silhouette was familiar, as if she had seen him somewhere before. Who was this mysterious man? What was his connection with these employees?
Suddenly, the mysterious man seemed to sense Lin Yu's presence; he abruptly turned his head and looked directly in her direction with eyes sharp as an eagle's, as if he could pierce through the darkness and see through all disguises.
Startled, Lin Yu quickly hid herself, her heart racing like that of a frightened deer. She held her breath and dared not move for fear of being discovered by the mysterious man.
Fortunately, he did not notice her; he continued his transaction with the employees, seemingly oblivious to any anomalies. This allowed Lin Yu to breathe a sigh of relief but also heightened her vigilance.
Lin Yu realized that this mastermind might be more complex and dangerous than she had imagined; their counter-surveillance skills were formidable. She needed to be more cautious and careful. She decided to exchange for some tools and abilities that would aid her investigation and enhance her combat effectiveness.
“Inverse Light, help me exchange for an invisibility cloak and a listening device—make sure they're the most advanced ones so no one can detect them,” Lin Yu silently thought. She knew these tools would be crucial for her success.
“Understood, Host. Your points will be deducted. The invisibility cloak and listening device have been successfully exchanged; please check your inventory,” came the voice of Inverse Light as it promptly fulfilled Lin Yu's request and delivered the items into her hands.
Lin Yu immediately donned the invisibility cloak and discreetly attached the listening device onto the employees without drawing attention—moving swiftly like an experienced spy. She returned to the bar once more to continue observing their every move, this time feeling far more confident.
Through the listening device, Lin Yu clearly heard their conversation, each word resonating in her ears and leaving her stunned. Their discussion unveiled a shocking conspiracy.
“This mission has gone well; once everything is accomplished, you will reap your rewards—wealth and glory beyond measure,” said the mysterious man in a deep, magnetic voice tinged with temptation.
“Rest assured, boss; we will do our utmost to complete the task and ensure your satisfaction,” one employee replied obsequiously, his tone filled with greed and desire.
“The target this time is Lin Yu; you must be cautious and ensure she does not discover our plans—do not alert her. She is not an ordinary woman; we must proceed carefully and strike decisively,” the mysterious man cautioned, his tone laced with apprehension.
Hearing this, Lin Yu's heart sank, as if a heavy stone pressed down on her chest, making it hard for her to breathe. It seemed that this time, the mastermind was truly targeting her; they actually wanted to deal with her! What had she done to attract such trouble?
She decided to continue investigating, to uncover the true identity and motives of the mastermind behind it all, and to solve this mystery. She needed to find out who was manipulating everything from the shadows, who wanted to put her in danger!
Just then, the door of the bar was suddenly pushed open, and a group of police officers rushed in, taking control of everyone inside. The scene instantly descended into chaos. The unexpected turn of events caught everyone off guard.
Lin Yu was startled; had someone called the police? Who had leaked the information? As she pondered this, a familiar figure suddenly appeared before her, like a flash of lightning cutting through the darkness.
"Jiang Chen?" Lin Yu looked at the person in disbelief; he was indeed that mysterious man! She never expected that her trusted partner would be the mastermind behind all of this!
Jiang Chen took off his sunglasses and hat, revealing his true face. That familiar visage now appeared so strange and terrifying. A cold smile played on his lips as he looked at Lin Yu and said, "Surprised, aren't you, Lin Yu? This was all my design. You must be shocked."
Lin Yu felt as if she had been doused with cold water, chilling her to the bone. She could not fathom that Jiang Chen was the mastermind; why would he do this? Were they not partners? Why would he betray her?
"Why? Jiang Chen, why did you betray me? Aren't we friends? Why would you do this to me?" Lin Yu's voice trembled, filled with disbelief and pain. She could not understand why this was happening.
A complex emotion flickered across Jiang Chen's face; there seemed to be a hint of guilt, but it quickly vanished as he returned to his indifferent demeanor, his gaze turning icy. "Betrayal? Lin Yu, you're too naive. I never truly collaborated with you; this was all just to use you. You were merely a pawn in my game. Now that you have no value left, you're disposable."
"Use me? For what? What do I have that’s worth your while?" Lin Yu's voice quivered with a hint of tears as she felt her world crumbling around her. She couldn't comprehend what she had done wrong.
"To take your company, to seize everything you have! Your technology, your resources—those are what I desire. Now they will all belong to me!" A glint of greed flashed in Jiang Chen's eyes as he finally revealed his true self—a face twisted by desire.
