“Host, based on my analysis, Jiang Chen’s actions may have three purposes: First, to test your reaction and see if you’ve been up to anything lately; second, to divert your attention and lower your guard so he can scheme in the shadows; third, he might genuinely care about you,” Inverse Light replied seriously, sounding like a relationship expert.
Lin Yu rolled her eyes. “The third option can be dismissed outright. It feels like he’s just waiting for me to disappear so he can inherit my Ant Flower Credit!”
“Not necessarily, Host. Love is unpredictable. Who knows? He might be captivated by your intelligence and charm, falling at your feet and turning over a new leaf,” Inverse Light said with an ambiguous tone, sounding somewhat gossipy and excited about the drama.
“Don’t be ridiculous! My relationship with him is colder than ice and hotter than fire—there’s no way that could happen!” Lin Yu declared firmly. She didn’t believe for a second that the smiling tiger Jiang Chen would ever fall for her.
Lin Yu scoffed. “You useless System! All you do is think about nonsense instead of doing something useful. If you’re so idle, why not help me find out if there are any traitors in the company? I’ve been feeling something’s off lately.”
“Host, you’re wronging me! I’ve been diligently serving you all along. As for traitors, I’ve already investigated that. There are indeed a few employees whose behavior seems suspicious,” Inverse Light’s voice suddenly turned serious.
“Is that true? Tell me more!” Lin Yu perked up immediately; she knew that while Inverse Light might not always be reliable, it could still come through in critical moments.
“According to my investigation, several employees have had unusual financial transactions recently, and they have all had access to the company’s core secrets,” Inverse Light reported.
“What else?” Lin Yu pressed for more information.
"They also had frequent interactions with a mysterious account, and the IP address of this account turned out to be linked to Jiang Chen's company!" Inverse Light exclaimed.
"What? It's actually Jiang Chen!" Lin Yu gasped, nearly jumping out of her chair. "I knew that guy had bad intentions!"
At that moment, Lin Yu's computer suddenly chimed with a notification for a new email.
She clicked it open to find an anonymous message with just a few short words: "Beware of the mole." The font was clearly altered, making it impossible to discern its original form, and the sender's address was a string of garbled characters, resembling a jumble of alien symbols.
A chill ran down Lin Yu's spine as an ominous premonition washed over her. It felt like eating an ice pop on a scorching summer day—refreshingly cold yet deeply unsettling.
A mole?
Could there really be spies from Jiang Chen within the company? And not just one?
She quickly accessed the company's internal System to investigate recent data anomalies.
What she found left her in shock! The core data of several important projects had signs of being leaked! Those data were the lifeblood of the company; how could they just be leaked like that?
Moreover, the timing of the leaks coincided perfectly with when Jiang Chen began pressuring her company! This timing was too coincidental, almost as if it had been arranged.
"Jiang Chen, you sly devil!" Lin Yu seethed, her teeth grinding in frustration. She felt an overwhelming urge to confront Jiang Chen and punch him squarely in the face. Now she understood why there had been so many issues with the company's projects lately—someone was sabotaging them from behind!
"Host, it seems there truly is a mole in your company, and it's highly likely that Jiang Chen has planted a corporate spy," Inverse Light reminded her, its tone laced with concern, as if foretelling an impending storm.
"I must root out this traitor!" Lin Yu clenched her fists, determination shining in her eyes. This traitor was like a ticking time bomb, ready to blow her company to smithereens at any moment.
She began to meticulously investigate the internal staff, particularly those who had access to core data. She scrutinized everyone's profiles, digging so deep that she could almost trace their ancestry back eighteen generations.
After a thorough examination, she finally pinpointed a suspect: a newly hired Financial Assistant named Xiaoli. This Financial Assistant had such a low profile that she could easily be compared to air.
Xiaoli usually kept a low profile and performed exceptionally well at work, which had prevented Lin Yu from noticing her. The assistant appeared honest and unassuming, but it turned out she was a hidden boss!
However, Lin Yu discovered through the System that this Financial Assistant Xiaoli had previously worked at Jiang Chen's company and maintained close ties with several of Jiang Chen's confidants. The connections were more tangled than a spider's web.
"Ha, it really is true that one can find something without much effort after searching high and low!" Lin Yu sneered, deciding to play along and draw the snake out of its hole. This assistant had been hiding quite well, but Lin Yu managed to flush her out.
She deliberately leaked some false information and secretly observed Financial Assistant Xiaoli's reaction. These falsehoods acted like bait, specifically designed to catch a big fish.
As expected, Financial Assistant Xiaoli quickly took the bait, secretly relaying the false information to Jiang Chen. Her speed was faster than express delivery.
Once Lin Yu gathered solid evidence, she immediately called the police to have Financial Assistant Xiaoli arrested. The entire process was seamless; it could have been made into a movie.
"Hello, police? I've discovered a corporate spy here; you need to come and arrest someone!" Lin Yu dialed 110, her voice filled with a sense of justice.
The police were efficient; it wasn't long before Financial Assistant Xiaoli was taken away. Before leaving, she glanced back at Lin Yu with eyes that seemed ready to devour her whole.
Meanwhile, Lin Yu called Jiang Chen, her tone icy: "Jiang Chen, why did you do this?" She wanted to see what Jiang Chen would say this time.
"Lin Yu, what you know is just the tip of the iceberg," Jiang Chen's voice revealed no emotional fluctuations but was laced with danger. His tone remained calm—so calm it sent chills down her spine.
"What exactly do you want?" Lin Yu was filled with confusion and unease. She felt like an ant on a hot stove, anxiously scurrying around.
"I want you to understand that opposing me will lead to a dire outcome," Jiang Chen's tone suddenly turned sharp, like a razor-sharp blade piercing Lin Yu's heart. His voice became menacing, as if he intended to tear her apart.
"You..." Lin Yu was so enraged that she couldn't find her words. She never expected Jiang Chen to be so despicable and shameless. She had thought that no matter how bad he was, he couldn't sink this low, yet here he was, capable of such actions.
"The game has only just begun, Lin Yu. Enjoy it," Jiang Chen said before hanging up the phone, his tone filled with triumph and provocation.
Lin Yu clutched her phone, feeling a chill in her palm as if she were holding a block of ice.
Jiang Chen's words echoed in her ears like a curse, sending waves of fear through her. She felt as though she were being targeted by a venomous snake, ready to strike at any moment.
What does he really want?
Is he truly intent on destroying her company?
Lin Yu took a deep breath, striving to calm herself. She reminded herself not to panic; the more critical the moment, the calmer she needed to be.
She knew this wasn't the time for fear; she had to pull herself together to face the challenges ahead. She needed to be like a warrior, always prepared for battle.
She must protect her company at all costs; she wouldn't allow Jiang Chen's schemes to succeed! This was her hard work, and she would not permit anyone to destroy it.
Lin Yu's gaze hardened, igniting like a burning flame that radiated dazzling light in the darkness. Her inner strength began to blaze.
