I was almost driven mad after hearing that: “Dong Ge, we’ve only played two matches in total, and we lost a few. Hurry up and close your crow's mouth; of course, we are victorious and returning triumphantly!” I made a gesture of salute to the party when suddenly A Fei gently nudged me with his arm and gave me a look. Following his gaze, I saw Xia Ying and Three Sisters walking towards us from a distance. I slowly walked up to her and involuntarily greeted her in a tone that was both polite and unfamiliar: “Yingying, good morning.” “Yes, good morning. Was the competition in Xingtai smooth this time?” Xia Ying seemed to have shed her childishness, appearing much more mature. I nodded in response: “Yes, it went well; we won both matches…” Just then, I suddenly felt someone link their arm with mine. “Oh, Jie, so you’re here! I’ve missed you so much after not seeing you for two days. Look at you, you’ve lost weight; it’s really heart-wrenching.” Situ Yanan said with deep affection. Where did this girl come from?
I noticed a hint of loneliness and jealousy in Xia Ying's eyes, but she quickly regained her composure. I hurriedly pulled away Situ Yanan's arm. “Oh, that’s too exaggerated; how could I lose weight in just two days? Also, why didn’t you call me ‘brother’ when you saw me? You really are quite rude.” I joked with her. Situ Yanan pouted: “Hmph, even after all this, you still want me to call you brother? But… Huang Rong still calls Guo Jing brother after they got married. Anyway, don’t forget our date later; I’m going in first, Brother Jie, bye.” With that, she walked into the school building. I felt a bit flustered and turned to explain to Xia Ying: “Yingying, Yanan just likes to joke around; there’s really nothing between us…” “No need to explain to me; what relationship you have with her is none of my business. I’m going in first.” Xia Ying said as she walked inside, and soon after, Zhang Yirong and Gu Mei Jiao approached.
“Jie, why have you and Xia Ying become so polite with each other lately? Even if you can’t be lovers, don’t turn into strangers,” Gu Mei Jiao said with some concern. Zhang Yirong scoffed: “Mei Jiao, you still don’t know their temperaments? Once they fall out, neither will want to talk to the other out of embarrassment. Let’s not ask about it; let’s hurry back to class.” With that, she pulled Gu Mei Jiao inside. I stood there watching their retreating figures, feeling a mix of emotions. “Jie, don’t take it too hard; Situ Yanan is pretty good too; maybe consider her…” Pang Hao patted my shoulder to comfort me. After hearing this, Shuai Dong coughed loudly and shot a glare at Pang Hao. Then A Fei came over and put his arms around our shoulders: “Alright, alright, we’re going to be late; let’s hurry inside!” “A Fei!” A sharp voice came from behind; it was Sha Xiaomei. “A Fei, we’re going in first; looks like you’ll be late. We’ll go ahead.” With a mischievous smile, Shuai Dong looked at us and led us into the school.
After sitting down in class, I secretly glanced at Xia Ying. She was seriously flipping through her textbook. I knew that what Situ Yanan did earlier was intentionally for Xia Ying to see. I wondered if Xia Ying misunderstood; deep down, I actually hoped she would feel jealous and angry. During the last class in the afternoon, as per usual, I went to the gym with A Fei. On the way, we ran into Ouyang, and the three of us walked together. “Jie, today at the school gate I saw you with Situ Yanan. It seems like you two are already… dating! And I saw how close you were in front of Xia Ying. Looks like you've really moved on from her…” Ouyang said slowly lowering his voice. Hearing this made me chuckle inwardly; Ouyang was trying to take advantage of the situation. Well then, I'll help him out since I know that Xia Ying’s personality means she wouldn’t fall for this foolishly infatuated Ouyang. In the end, he might end up heartbroken again. I actually felt a bit sorry for Ouyang; despite being older now, he was still as naive as Jia Baoyu.
During practice today, Teacher Qiu pointed out that our defensive quality needs improvement—not because our defense is terrible but because our defensive intensity is somewhat soft and stiff. We need to increase the toughness of our play style. Players like Li Kanglin, Lu Yinghao, and Tu Lei, who mainly attack inside the paint, practiced especially hard because they were clearly dissatisfied with their performance against the formidable duo from Yuce. Therefore they needed to increase their intensity during practice while our trio focused on coordination and organization. Ouyang hit five three-pointers during training which thoroughly embodied our team name: Yulin's First Blade. Meanwhile, A Fei focused on mid-range jump shots; when he faced off against Du during practice, he even showcased his hook shot technique which made Du eager to ask him for tips afterward. As for me and Liu Xiao, we practiced one-on-one drills where he wanted to learn my "Lingbo Microstep" spin move. Whether it was his talent or the difficulty of the move itself, even after demonstrating it several times for him he still struggled with it. However, he was diligent and eager to learn; he promised he would keep practicing until he mastered it.
With no competitions coming up in the near future, the atmosphere became much more relaxed. During our break three continued on our journey with Cangxing Intercity; we must win this warm-up match championship because we need an award that can give recognition to our team in Yulin—even if it's just first among four teams. Riding my bike to school later on the road I ran into Zhao Bin whose dad was driving that expensive Aston Martin worth millions. He shouted from the car window inviting us to ride with him to school while completely ignoring our mode of transportation! According to the weather forecast there will be snow tomorrow; sigh! It looks like I'll have to spend this weekend at home instead—oh? Does that mean I can skip out on my date with Situ Yanan? If that's true then that would be great! No need to worry about how to deal with it anymore! Should I accept the feelings that infatuated Situ Yanan has for me? No way—absolutely not! I've always seen her as a little sister; doing so would deceive her feelings! I've already hurt enough girls; I can't add another one to that list!
