The stifling air seemed to have solidified, and the cicadas outside shrieked like a saw tugging at Su Mu's nerves. The atmosphere in the old house was so oppressive that it felt hard to breathe, filled with dust and a musty smell. Su Mu irritably pulled off his mask, sweat soaking through his T-shirt. 0

"This damn place!" he muttered under his breath as he continued rummaging through the old belongings left by his grandfather. 0

Su Mu was an outstanding student at a medical university. He had originally planned to intern at a hospital during the summer break but was abruptly called back home by a phone call. After his grandfather's passing, the old house needed renovations, and he had been tasked with clearing out the old items. 0

Su Mu had little appreciation for his family's traditional Chinese medicine background; he trusted more in the scientific rigor of modern medicine. The ancient texts and prescriptions left behind by his grandfather were, in his eyes, nothing more than piles of old paper that took up space without any real use. 0

Bored, he kicked aside a dusty wooden box, which emitted a dull thud as something rolled out from within. Su Mu bent down to pick it up and discovered an ancient thread-bound book. 0

The cover was worn and fragile, as if it could fall apart at any moment, with three characters written in traditional Chinese: "Heavenly Secrets Medical Compendium." Su Mu scoffed and casually flipped through a few pages, finding them densely packed with various prescriptions, strange symbols, and some obscure incantations. 0

"This is just too mystical," he murmured, preparing to toss the book back into the box when one page suddenly caught his eye. 0

That page detailed a method called "Observing Qi to Diagnose Illness," claiming one could determine health conditions by observing a person's energy field. Although he studied modern medicine, Su Mu had heard bits of traditional Chinese medicine's "mysticism" from his grandfather since childhood, and curiosity sparked within him. 0

He closed the book and, almost on impulse, stuffed it into his backpack. 0

Upon returning home, Su Mu tossed the "Heavenly Secrets Medical Compendium" onto his desk and quickly forgot about it. A few days later, he ran into his neighbor Uncle Li and noticed that Uncle Li's complexion was sallow, breathing rapid, and he was coughing incessantly—symptoms that resembled a lung infection. 0

Due to his sensitivity as a medical student, Su Mu suggested that Uncle Li go to the hospital for an examination. However, Uncle Li waved him off, insisting that it was just an old ailment acting up and that some medicine would suffice; he absolutely refused to go to the hospital. 0

Knowing Uncle Li's stubbornness, Su Mu could only relent. But over the next few days, Uncle Li's cough worsened significantly. Su Mu watched helplessly as concern gnawed at him. He urged Uncle Li once more to seek medical attention, but Uncle Li still refused and even got angry. 0

Feeling at a loss, Su Mu suddenly remembered the "Heavenly Secrets Medical Compendium" he had tossed on his desk. With a mindset of trying anything as a last resort, he opened the compendium again in hopes of finding some methods to help Uncle Li without needing to go to the hospital. 0

He flipped back to the page titled "Diagnosis by Observing Qi" and began to observe Uncle Li's aura according to the methods described in the book. To his astonishment, he truly saw a layer of gray mist enveloping Uncle Li, interspersed with dark spots, which in the medical text indicated a severe illness! 0

Su Mu's heart sank; could it be that everything recorded in this medical manual was true? If so, Uncle Li's condition was worse than he had imagined! 0

He continued to browse through the medical manual, hoping to find corresponding treatment methods. Suddenly, a line of small text caught his eye: "Lung cold and yin deficiency, evil qi has entered the body; this is not something ordinary medicine can cure. It requires the 'Nine Needles to Return Yang' combined with 'Clearing Lung Decoction' to be effective." 0

Nine Needles to Return Yang? Clearing Lung Decoction? Su Mu had never heard of these two treatments, but a glimmer of hope rose within him. He decided to take a leap of faith and attempt to treat Uncle Li according to the manual's instructions… 0

Su Mu took a deep breath, trying hard to calm himself. He knew this was a tremendous challenge for him since he had never studied acupuncture or traditional Chinese medicine. But he had no choice; Uncle Li's condition was urgent. 0

He meticulously studied the acupoint diagram and needle techniques for the "Nine Needles to Return Yang," as well as the herbal ingredients and preparation methods for the "Clearing Lung Decoction." The text in the manual was obscure and difficult to understand, forcing Su Mu to read it repeatedly while integrating his knowledge of modern medicine. 0

Fortunately, although Su Mu's grandfather had not imparted the essence of traditional Chinese medicine to him, he had taught him some basic theories and acupuncture techniques. This provided Su Mu with a foundational understanding of the content in the "Heavenly Secrets Medical Manual." 0

He rushed to a nearby herbal medicine shop and purchased the necessary ingredients as outlined in the manual. Upon returning home, he carefully washed the herbs and then prepared them according to the instructions. 0

During the decoction process, Su Mu did not dare be careless; he strictly controlled the heat and timing to ensure that the medicinal properties would be maximally effective. 0

Once the medicine was ready, Su Mu carried the bowl over to Uncle Li's house. Uncle Li looked even paler than before, his breathing more labored. Seeing Su Mu, he forced a faint smile: "Xiao Mu, you’re here again? This old ailment of mine doesn’t need a hospital..." 0

"Uncle Li, since you’re unwilling to go to the hospital, let me give it a try," Su Mu said firmly. "I’ll use traditional Chinese medicine; it might just work for your illness." 0

Uncle Li hesitated for a moment but eventually nodded. Su Mu helped Uncle Li sit up and then began to administer acupuncture. 0

The acupuncture points of the Nine Yang Needles were quite unique, with some points even unfamiliar to Su Mu, a medical student. However, relying on his understanding of the medical texts and the basic acupuncture techniques taught by his grandfather, he accurately located each point and inserted the silver needles. 0

As the needles were inserted, Uncle Li's complexion gradually regained some color, and his breathing became steadier. Su Mu felt a surge of joy; it seemed that the Nine Yang Needles were indeed effective! 0

After finishing the acupuncture, Su Mu served Uncle Li a bowl of lung-clearing soup that he had prepared. Uncle Li drank it down in one go. As the herbal concoction entered his mouth, a warm current spread throughout his body. Uncle Li felt a refreshing sensation in his lungs, and his breathing became even smoother. 0

"This... is truly miraculous! After coughing for so long, I can finally breathe freely!" Uncle Li exclaimed. 0

Su Mu let out a sigh of relief; he knew he had made the right bet. 0

In the following days, Su Mu performed acupuncture and brewed medicine for Uncle Li every day. Under Su Mu's meticulous care, Uncle Li's condition improved day by day; his cough gradually diminished, and his complexion returned to a healthy hue. 0

A week later, Uncle Li was able to get out of bed and move around. He took Su Mu's hand and said excitedly, "Xiao Mu, I owe you my life! If it weren't for you, I would have been done for! You are truly my savior!" 0

Su Mu smiled and replied, "Uncle Li, you're too kind. This is what I should do." 0

The news of Uncle Li's sudden recovery quickly spread throughout the neighborhood, and everyone praised Su Mu's medical skills. As a result, Su Mu gained considerable fame in the community, with some even beginning to call him "Little Divine Doctor." 0

However, Su Mu did not become arrogant or complacent due to this praise; he understood that this was merely a starting point on his journey in medicine. There was still much for him to learn and many challenges ahead. 0

The miraculous power of the Medical Canon sparked a deep interest in traditional Chinese medicine and metaphysics within Su Mu. He began to study the medical texts diligently and attempted to learn the divination techniques contained within them. He wondered why his grandfather had never mentioned such treasures when he was alive. This was something worth exploring thoroughly. 0
