"This is getting interesting," he thought, realizing that it wasn't the locator malfunctioning, but rather that he had unknowingly wandered into the Realm of Confusion.
Elder Zhu had mentioned the Realm of Confusion before entering the Lava Sea. It was a peculiar existence within the Lava Sea; once someone approached these areas, their locators would fail. Without the guidance of the locator, people could only flail about like headless flies. If the locator failed on land, one could still use the stars above to determine their direction. However, this was the underground world, where there were no stars to observe. Therefore, anyone entering the Lava Sea had to rely solely on their locators for navigation.
The dangers within the Lava Sea had been ranked, with attacks from Demon Beasts taking the top spot and the Realm of Confusion coming in second. However, in terms of fatality rates, the Realm of Confusion was even more dangerous than Demon Beasts. The reasoning was simple: if one could escape a Demon Beast's attack, they stood a chance; but once trapped in the Realm of Confusion, escape became exceedingly difficult.
The Realm of Confusion was not marked on any maps provided by Elder Zhu. This was partly because these areas often appeared in deeper waters and primarily because they were not fixed locations; they moved and could suddenly appear or vanish. When a Realm of Confusion disappeared, those trapped inside along with any Demon Beasts would also vanish. If a large area of the Realm of Confusion disappeared, it would create a near-desolate zone for a certain period, and no one knew where those who vanished went.
According to those who had escaped from the Realm of Confusion, they managed to do so just before it vanished. As for how they accomplished this, it was all down to luck. The Realm could block most Divine Perception, making it likely that much of what one saw inside was illusory.
The peculiarities of the Realm of Confusion had attracted much research and exploration. People hoped to understand how it formed and whether there were any patterns to follow, with the main concern being how to cope with it. However, after a long time spent searching for answers, none were found. Researchers merely advised people to stay away if they encountered a Realm of Confusion. Although exploration and study had ceased, rumors about it proliferated. Some speculated that it was an entrance to another world where those who disappeared along with Demon Beasts had gone; others claimed that ancient lost Magic Circles were still at work. Yet, regardless of which theory one believed, there was no direct or indirect evidence to support any claim, adding to the mystery surrounding the Realm.
For Mo Wen at this moment, he didn't care what the Realm of Confusion truly was; all he wanted was to leave this cursed place as soon as possible. There seemed to be no pattern to when it appeared or disappeared—some lasted only a few hours while others seemed almost permanent. The thought that he and Xiao Hei might be trapped here forever darkened Mo Wen's expression further.
"Xiao Hei, we're in trouble!" he said helplessly as he looked at Xiao Hei, who was fast asleep.
"Ah! Boss, you go ahead! I'll cheer you on!" Xiao Hei sprang up upon hearing Mo Wen's voice.
"Cheer me on? We're stuck here! Why didn't you wake me?" Mo Wen had specifically told Xiao Hei before his meditation that he must wake him if trouble arose.
"Uh, Boss, I’m sorry! We hadn’t run into any trouble along the way. I saw you meditating and got bored; then I felt a bit sleepy and just wanted to take a quick nap... I promise I only meant to doze off for a moment."
This wasn’t just dozing off; he had fallen asleep! Looking at Xiao Hei’s innocent expression made Mo Wen sigh inwardly. At this point, he couldn't blame Xiao Hei; after all, he hadn’t intended to fault him either.
