Under the influence of the sensing aura, the three individuals had already landed on the island and were making their way toward the mountain. Mo Wen did not rise; instead, he continued to roast meat over the fire pit. Xiao Hei was dumbfounded as he glanced at his own bulging belly and then at the roasted meat in his leader's hands. The enticing aroma wafting from the meat stirred his appetite, and he regretted eating too quickly earlier. It seemed he hadn’t even savored the flavor before it was gone into his stomach. Looking back at the meat on the fire and patting his belly, he could only swallow hard in resignation; as they say, the heart is willing but the stomach is not—his leader must be doing this on purpose.
Mo Wen pulled out a dagger and sliced some roasted meat to place in front of Xiao Hei, not bothering to see if he would eat it. He leisurely took small bites of the meat himself. In truth, Mo Wen was also feeling full; after all, it was quite a distance from the edge of the island to Xiao Shan, and it would take some time for the three coming over. Moreover, these three were particularly unfortunate, consistently stepping on the traps they had set. Every so often, explosions echoed in the air. While these traps couldn’t harm them, they left their foes in a state of disarray.
"Which bastard set up these things? Damn it! If I catch him, I’ll skin him alive," Liu San cursed as he brushed off the dust from his clothes after an explosion.
"Haha! San, you just keep talking big about skinning people. Look at your sorry state," laughed a tall and thin man beside him.
"Second Brother, don’t mock Third Brother too much; you’re not doing any better yourself. Everyone be careful; I sensed something earlier—someone might have gotten here first," said the scholarly-looking man among them.
"What’s there to fear? We three brothers are known as the Deadly Trio; with our realm in this Sea of Lava, we can walk through it without a care," Liu San replied dismissively upon hearing his leader's words. Since entering the Lava Sea, they had indeed vanquished every enemy they encountered.
The title "Deadly Trio" was given to them by others, originally meant as a curse implying that their lives would be short-lived—a testament to the saying that good people don’t live long while calamities last for a thousand years. Among them, the leader was that scholarly-looking middle-aged man who appeared weak but was actually the strongest of the trio. The other two only knew their leader's surname and nothing else about him. The second brother was called Skinny Ghost; due to his martial arts training, he had forgotten his real name. The third brother was Liu San, who was also the weakest among them. Skinny Ghost and Liu San were once desperate fugitives but were saved by a man named Gong at a critical moment; since then, they had followed Boss Gong without question. Both had once coveted their leader's position but abandoned those thoughts after realizing they owed their lives to him and witnessing Boss Gong’s capabilities.
Unlike Hei Hu and other Mountain Bandit forces outside, these three remained in a transient state—neither occupying territory nor gathering followers. Even if someone approached them voluntarily, Boss Gong would refuse them. Initially, Skinny Ghost and Liu San didn’t understand why Gong acted this way, but they had no choice but to obey; after all, he had saved their lives and they couldn’t overpower him. Under Boss Gong's leadership, they had narrowly escaped several encirclements by the Official Government, which left Skinny Ghost and Liu San in awe of him. They also discovered that following Boss Gong meant they didn’t need to worry about finding targets; as long as they followed their leader’s arrangements, success was guaranteed.
